Multiply scouting for GM in the Philippines

Listen to article

Multiply Inc. is scouting for a GM (General Manager) for the Philippines, according to a source, and is also looking to form a dedicated group to run local operations.

Multiply Philippines opened up shop in June 2008, about 6 months after local TV network ABS-CBN bought a 5% stake into the company.

The partnership with ABS-CBN Interactive involves a multi-year advertising and revenue-sharing agreement. It’s possible that agreement has now expired and Multiply wants to get a dedicated team to run local operations.

Based on the requirements, it looks like this is the first time Multiply is getting an official local representation with the GM and the entire operations team.

We are looking for a General Manager to establish, staff and run the operations of Multiply, Inc. in the Philippines, one of the most important countries in our network.

The position will be based in Manila. You will be responsible for all aspects of our operations in the Philippines. You will be responsible for hiring, leading, directing and managing all personnel in this branch office, as well as implementing all of the initiatives and directives agreed upon with Multiply’s executive team.

In September 22, 2010, The Myriad International Holdings United of Naspers Limited (NPN-JSE) has acquired a controlling interest in Multiply. Naspers is a South Africa-based multinational media company with principal operations in electronic media.

About Multiply:

Multiply, Inc. is one of the world’s preeminent Social Shopping and Media Sharing companies, and operates the largest online marketplace in the Philippines. With over 70,000 storefronts, and 20 million monthly unique users, Multiply is a fast growing environment, and the company to watch in the Philippines.

Multiply is still the best content-host-service for me. Photo albums, reviews, actual blog articles (versus the “pansinin nyo ako” crap that passes for kids’ “blogs” these days). IMHO, still the best place to have that online.

Multiply is slowly declining its grip in PH scene. (I think) There are dozens of social networking and media sites today and I dont know what strategy would be best to basically eat up the competition and the market.

I guess, Multiply is still hot for being a vector for selling stuff online. I always wonder why they don’t just use ebay for that.
