An infographic by ASEAN DNA claims to have recent data obtained between March and April 2014, and it compares the average internet speeds of countries around the world and those that are in the ASEAN. Results find that the Philippines is way below the average in Asia and in the whole world, and in the infographic, we are seen trailing as the slowest.
Seen above, you can see that our average internet speed is at 3.6 mbps, while Singapore goes in at 61 mbps, topping everyone in the graph off. The average speeds of all the other ASEAN countries are at somewhere near 10 mbps while it’s at around 15 mbps globally.
If the Philippines continues at this pace, it seems that our internet speed will be truly left behind despite the expensive costs when compared to our neighboring countries.

I work for Time Warner Cable and if you know, it is being acquired by Comcast the biggest cable provider in the U.S. The main reason is COMPETITION, without it Comcast can jack up prices anytime and consumers are left without any choice. Same here in the Philippines it’s either Globe or PLDT, no such competition since PLDT acquired Digitel and SunCellular. Skycable which is on par with U.S. speed don’t have the cash to roll out infractures. How about this one Mr. President Aquino, why don’t you open investors for Internet such as Korea and Japan? and see for the next 10 years that our speed would jump from 3Mbps to 20Mbps for 1500Php.
You don’t work for Time Warner Cable, you work for a call center that has TWC as a client.
Well hintayin lang daw yung sa san miguel corp. makikisali sila at SANA super lower price i ooffer nila para magsibabaan yung iba^_^
Plus true lte connection Naman o a-lte xD
I subscribed to PLDT MyDSL Highspeed plan 10mbps which is the only highest speed theycan offer i iloilo city. The actual speedtest on Ookla is 10Mbps but ranging from 4.7Mbps maximum speed to 7.6Mbps for approved plan 10Mbps. WTF I paid my first bill 6K++ whithout any landline and cellphone calls. I signed 10Mbps for 4,600 monthly but it is PLDT bullshitting their customers. Sometimes my speed is 0.27Mbps and paying 13,800++ in my secod month and I check my billing statement and like I did a chain call but I didn’t made any. Every month PLDT charge connection fees and other fees which I cannot understand. I made a complain dozen but seemed they ignore customers complain. Then I got second connection to Globe Tattoo same speed and almost same price of PLDT. PLDT really SUCK!
Mabagal lng tlga ang internet dto sa pilipinas. Cguro dahil na dn sa politics. MARAMING CORRUPT! Mabilis tlga ang internet sa Singapore cuz I have been there. at sa mga ibang lugar sa Singapore tulad sa airport nla. They provide free internet pa nga e pero may limit dn iyon sa paggamit.
hiyang-hiya naman ako sa Cambodia, Myanmar at Laos!!!
How did they measure this? What is the speed of the plan subscribed? What if most Filipinos are 1-3 Mbps subscribers only?
We may have the slowest pero unlimited naman kumpara sa iba na metered ang usage kaya inaabot ng $100 or more. Saan ka naman nakakita ng around $10 (P440 for witribe and P699 for Sun) for a whole month of unlimited use? Besides, hindi naman lahat tayo kelangan talaga ng mabilis na Internet. Karamihan sa atin kuripot pa din at basta mura carry na.
Er, di po unli ang pinas, may DATA CAPPING po.
Pure rubbish.
Mabagal talaga ang net ng PH ever since. Notice ko na yan dati pa, and even if they release LTE yet yung pinaka slowest speed like 2G is not consistent, aasa ka pa ba sa mga LTE na mabilis daw ni ang 2G nga eh hinde pa nila magawang 100% ang speed.
Well I really don’t know pero baka meron din effect na dahil we are not a BIG island like other countries, we are an archipekago type, hinde kaya yun din dahilan why mabagal net natin? NAHhhh!
Japan is also an archipelago -.- Geography has nothing to do with.
sinama nga nila US =>
d nman SEA (South East Asia) ang Korea, kaya wala sa list
Grabe naman yan… Dito sa US, I pay $90/4k Peso per month for 90mbps, but that includes other services and it can be cheaper depending on what type of contract you have. From what I have read, companies like PLDT are to blame. They try and charge other companies willing to offer better services for money. Greed nga talaga.
PLDTD$L offers 5mbp for 2k php plus additional phone bills (around 800 php).. shame on those people who prioritize their own personal gain and to earn more money all because of greediness
Is this for real? Not really. I’m subscribed to FTH (Fiber to Home) Plan for Php20K/mo., and I everything here works fast. Pay the price and get world class service, but if you can’t afford, pity you! All the poor wants fast speed at low prices? Hmmmm. Bad for business. I hope our country will be the same, average Juan suffers; we the rich get richer. More value for our cash. Hahaha.
Rich troll kid trolling around.. oh wait, i think he’s dead serious with his comment. This selfish, feeble-minded and low life rich kid doesn’t really know what’s happening. You’ve been succumbed with fortune and greed that was mouth fed to you that made your brain half-dead to realize the meaning of technology and people (pinoy). I hope you do realize that wealth will never get you safe and thus will make you think you’re above to any average Juan.. i am absolutely sure that in a short time, you sir will suffer the most.. so enjoy the “good life”
20k/month for [maybe] 100mbps? World class service? Yeah right. I hate to break this to you, but that’s a total rip off. $120 can get you 150mbps.
hoy elitist, ang yabang mo naman magsalita! and how did you even know All the poor wants fast speed at low prices?! kapal mo! f*** sh**t ka! the reason why we still have evil in this world because we still have people like you who are soooo inlove with themselves. tamaan ka sana ng kidlat paglabas mo ng bahay ng mabawasan ang mga katulad mo.
weh? hindi naman ikaw yung ng babayad nyan eh. c daddy mo kaya yung ngbabayad. lol
Dream on elitist.. Hahaha. How can you have that bandwidth speed if you’re living in the Philippines?? The problem is that internet structure in your country is not enough to support all the internet users as there are only eight fiber optic submarine cables coming into your country. You don’t even have your own communications satellites to boost bandwidth speed. So you’re paying 20k a month for a service you’re not getting. Stupid. Hahaha
satires are always true. XD
Huwag kang magsabi ng ganyan! Lahat ng mga tao pinapatulan mo eh.
G**O NA LINTIK KA!
Modus: put your name as an obvious adjective, in this case , put an unthinkable comment, one of which no one in their right frame of mind would do (out loud at least), on any article such as this… and watch #butthurtfilipinos ride on… come on guys, when will we learn not to feed these trolls
i kinda agree on you guys na talagang napakabagal ng internet natin mapa household or business, imagine 1k dollars for 8mbps FIBER connection via IGATE (PLDT)… 8mbps lang ha hindi pa ginawang 10mbps
e for 1k dollars sa ibang bansa e 50mbps na ang na ooffer.. what a rip off tapos nag dodown pa ung DNS nila, wtf!
pero i have to agree na mahirap talaga i maintain ang submarine cable lalo na sa pag spread ng high speed internet sa ibang provinces
pero bottomline rip off talaga ang rates
any news about the San Miguel telco? XD
1Gbps in Singapore costs S$50 per month = Php1,700.
We are really played by the oligarchs.
nalaos pa tayo nang Laos. lol
Sabihan mo naman kami pag magpapatawa ka para prepared kami. Ok?
Dito samin mas mabilis pa yung h+ kumpara sa lte.. T_T tpos yung speed ng h+ hndi pa umaabot ng 1mbps considering I’m within Metro Manila. Ang saklap. Hay..
may fiber optics nga ang pldt usan suso pa ri…
This is what happens when there’s no to little competitolion..
