Sky Broadband seems to be tipping the scale for broadband speeds with offerings of up to 6Mbps and 12 Mbps packages for residential accounts. Just got a pamphlet from their roving people asking residents to switch.
Previously the top speeds for residential DSL lines are somewhere between 3 to 5Mbps, but 12 Mbps? Sign me up!
The new packages are as follows:
Plan 6 Mbps
6Mbps downsload
1Mbps upload
Free Installation
Free Modem
Free SkyCable Gold plan
Free SkyVoice Plan 100 (Free calls to US & Canada)
Monthly Service Fee: Php3,999
Plan 12 Mbps
12Mbps download
1Mbps upload
Free Installation
Free Modem
Free SkyCable Gold plan
Free SkyVoice Plan 100 (Free calls to US & Canada)
Monthly Service Fee: Php5,999
They also offer a 15-day free trial but I’m not sure what’s the catch with that one.
I’m already spending Php2k on PLDT myDSL and Php500 for Destiny Cable. Upgrading to 6 Mbps means I have to fork out another Php1,500 per month.
It might sound like a good deal especially for those looking into really fast download speeds but I’m in the fence when it comes to reliability.
Any Sky Cable or Sky Broadband user out there who can share some feedback on service reliability (i.e how many downtimes a year, resolution time, etc.)?

Any one is using skybroadband in laguna San Pedro area? I would like to know your own experience of this service.
I am subscribed to a 3mbps account with sky. For the past 1.5 weeks I have had a very slow connection. about 167kbps especially between the hours of 6pm to 12midnight. I have called them numerous times, and I have never been able to talk with the one who is supposed to be handling my account a certain JJ Mendiola. Absolutely nothing has been done about. These people are ripping me off!
Looking at the old replies I can see that my problem is not isolated. It seems Sky blocks off some sites during peak hours. The same sites can readily be accessed during off hours but never during peak hours.
Glad to know I’m not alone with this kind of problem. I live in the Pasig area and I’ve been suffering from the shitty service of Skybroadband for months already. The previous posters were right about giving you a promising connection during the trial period, but once you’ve hooked up with them, shit starts hitting the fan. It has made me quit playing mmo’s and games like hon and dota, though might be a good thing, but still deprives me of even watching a 3 min video in youtube. The only time I get a really decent connection is around 4am and there’s no way in hell I’ll adjust my time for the proper use of their service.
So this is the last straw for me and I’ll be switching back to PLDT and hope for a better ISP service.
No matter who you get potentially you get the same issues. Just wonder the bandwidth announced in the contract is only the burst.
SLA is kinda a joke who ever you chose to work with.
Unless you’re on a not crowed node of the network, just expect the same everywhere.
Just wonder why the bandwidth is so little compared to many countries: infrastructure is getting old and doesn’t fit the needs anymore, so they cannot provide more.
Any reviews on PLDT My DSL? I know they were bad in the past but are they good now?
there is a new player in the market wi-tribe 4g, liberty broadcasting network inc. is the carrier. any reviews on their service?
been calling skybroadband tech support for 4 days straight can even play a simple online browser game what hell!! 54 days straight calling for tech support and still not working they even asked me to email the problem and still nothing nothing nothing

SKY BROADBAND = Very unreliable service.. i always have to reset the power of the cable modem to make it fast again or else i’ll suffer with the speed. Once my contract is through, i will surely switch to another ISP.
What are the Differences Between DSL and Cable Internet?
This explains why Skybroadband -SUCKS-
Quote from http://www.wisegeek.com/what-are-the-differences-between-dsl-and-cable-internet.htm
“An advantage of DSL service is that your speed remains the same, no matter how many people are using the service. With cable Internet service, the number of users in your local area can affect bandwidth availability and result in slow service. Your personal experience is >>–>dependent upon the number of active users at any given time<–<<."
So… during off-peak hours (2am~9am), mabilis talaga ang Skybroadband. Pero during semi-peak hours (9am~5pm) at peak hours (6pm~12?pm) TALAGANG MABAGAL.
– Villarica SUBD Cainta Rizal (bordering Pasig)
@Sciaa – i’ve used comcast when i was in the US and there was no degradation of service on their part. almost all in my area are using comcast and there is no change in the speed whatsoever. i think skycable is not using the full potential of their equipment in the hopes of earning more for the limited service they provide.
Hi all.
I have been using Planet Cable, but I think it is in fact PLDT, at least they provide the bandwidth to Planet Cable, I was getting a really bad connection, but Kept on complaining, and demanding something be done, in the end they gave me the correct speed (3MBps) and now over the last 8 months, it is really stable and can at last play my favorite game on-line, Red Orchestra.
Don’t sit back and accept what they give you, they do this on purpose, like everything else in the Philippines, you really have to push for what you pay for, if you don’t, then they will walk all over you, don’t let them fob you off with lame excuses, I threatened them with court action, then they where only too willing to help.
I am not a Filipino, I am British, I always demand what I pay for, in the UK, we get 56 MBps for the same price I pay for a 3MBps connection here, the Philippines are way behind in technology, I hope soon they realize that 3MBps just isn’t fast enough for a true INTERNET experience.
All the best.
Keith.
Quoted from Keith Rhodes,
“…we get 56 MBps for the same price I pay for a 3MBps connection here.”
Ahh yes! I can see your point! It’s like this —
A Philippine ISP bought a [56MBps Plan at 3000 Pesos per month] then retails it to ‘uninformed consumers’ at 1MBps = 1000 Pesos per month.
A Philippine ISP’s profit is:
Php56,000 = 1 MBps plan @ Php1,000 X(sold to)56 customers
-Php 3,000 = Cost for the Internet connection ‘Supply’
————-
Php 53,000 = Gross Profit per month!
No wonder why most Philippine ISP’s customer service departments are not serious about helping their customers is because -they do earn TOO MUCH MONEY- that it can cover their losses.
globebroadband 3mbps/2.2k php hindi totoo yan, eto ang speed na makukuha mo 1.6mbps almost half ang nabawas omg…. wag na kau sa globebroadband sa umpisa lang magaling yan.
thanks for the reviews and comments
i was planning on subscribing to sky, mukhang wag na lang, ahaha
[...] I saw this banner/standee that says it’s really 112Mbps and not the 12Mbps we already knew they’re offering for about 2 years [...]

Anyways,
Destiny is ok.p2p connection is really fast and shoots up to 1.5 Mbps. How I’d wish Youtube and other web video protocols would be a whole lot faster.
I’ve noticed that http downloading has been slowing down lately. downloading a 7MB dota map took me about an hour or so. on the contrary downloading a 20MB torrent file took me 12minutes only.
super weird.
As much as possible I want better browsing experience, that is why sometimes i’m thinking of getting sky. I’m sticking with destiny since i can use its connection to immediately download torrent files if need be.
Yes, Sky broad band has very fast connectivity, HOWEVER, SKY has very poor repair services. It will take days before they will respond to your complain. The CSR’s will tell you that it will be fixed within 24 hours, CRAP! it will take DAYS!
I noticed that most people here says that 200-300 kbps is so slow. In fact, in my PLDT myDSL, that would be very fast already! Imagine the speeds of download I get on average is about 40 kbps. So you people must be really lucky to get that speed of 200.
Btw, my subscription is Plan 990 and I am from Pasig (up to 384 kbps)but I only get that measly 40. On Friday, I’m trying this Sky Broadband. I don’t mind if it’s not 12 Mbps, but if it tops PLDT’s effin’ 40 kbps then I’ll continue the subscription.
Aya, do you know the differnce between Kilobits/second (Kbps) and KiloBytes/second (KBps) ??
Lol 12Mbps what for?, do you have a call center in your house. I only need a decent 1.5 Mbps and I can’t even get that here in this country it’s just like Sky Cable it’s called “bait and switch” they say this and do that. I live just beside this company’s office and I can’t get decent service here what a joke. I’m very pessimistic about company promises if a half decent cable company comes here in the Philippines I’m saying byebye to these losers. Get a life!
