BMW is introducing a first in the Philippines — turn-by-turn GPS directions with the BMW Navigation system — or at least, that’s what they claim.

3.5″ touch screen display
bluetooth hands-free function
voice directions with street names
comprehensive maps of Philippines installed
mp3/audiobook player
SD card slot
JPEG viewer

Of course, you can’t get them separately as they one come pre-installed on all BMW 1 Series and BMW 3 Series models.

What a relief to discover a page that may be ultimately really worth reading! I’ve been seeking all-around about this topic but men and women just put rubbish posts, or brief meaningless posts. I have seen a couple vids on youtube but it’s now the same as reading a good post. Great job!

If you have a garmin gps, you can also get free Philippine gps-ready maps at my site:
    http://esambale.wikispaces.com/osmphil_garmin

The data was based on openstreetmap philippines data. We have extensive data for Metro Manila and some areas around the country.

    Did I say it’s free? :)

    Hi Folks,

I recently found the carNAVi company, they have a website at www.car-navi.ph. It seems that now affortable navigation gadgets are available for eveybody. I contacted them and they told they have gadgets for sale starting 8000P with complete Philippines map, not only Metro Manila. They are also selling Garmin units and in dash solutions, a lot better, than what BMW is offering. Check out their site, they have a lot pictures and information.

Sir, all the comments have been towards the map of the GPS but i would like to introduce, it can be done without much survey only you have to use the calculus, GIS is not a map its all software and one round can do it all.
If all these my friends would help me we may with God’s grace bring in GPS of Philippines.

To project the maps to the GPS, actual survey to the street must be done. Nothing has been done about it according to NAMRIA (Authority of All Maps in the Philippines). And I doubt that BMW did it, they have to spend billions of pesos to survey all the streets in the Philippines, even the unpaved one. So their claims are all lies. If i remember, the atlas street maps covers only manila, and it was last updated 5 years ago.

You can ask NAMRIA about it, GPS in the Philippines is useless, Philippines has not yet mapped. The only available street maps in the Philippines is Manila.

@Eugene, they said it was done in-house but if the project was started a year ago or so, some of the data might be outdated.

I remember watching “The Office” when Mike(Steve Carell) drove to a lake following the FOXY voice of the Turn-by-turn GPS. LOL

Yuga, have you asked where did they get their mapping data? Did they compile it themselves or did they buy/license it from somewhere? I note that V-bar is shown in the screenshot, but V-bar is long closed, even before the Glorietta 2 explosion.

here are some portable gps systems currently in use.

tomtom, magellan, garmin are good brands. of course, you get what you pay for. the more expensive, the more features.

i have a garmin nuvi, and i love it. it has an mp3 player, hand free calls, translator, can locate shops, grocery, parking etc nearest your location.

if there is a mapping for the philippines, these gadgets might be the next big thing there.
