{Live @ CEL Manila} One of the spotlights at the Creative booth is the new Zen X-Fi, a portable media player that could grab some attention away from the iPod Nano.

Plays MJPEG, WMV, MPEG-4 as well as DivX and XviD. Other formats can be supported once codecs are installed. I thought it’s a bit thick though at 0.5″ or just under 13mm. Great video and audio quality. Will be getting a unit soon for a full review.

Anyway guys, the main difference of this player with the Original Creative Zen is the crystalliser sound quality and x-fi. Everything else, was tweaked but almost the same, that’s why the price…

    Creative Zen 8GB – 7,999
    Creative Zen X-Fi 8GB – 8,999

the SD-Card integration for the the zen players is still sadly ignored by creative. :(

will the SD-Card integration into the internal music library for zen x-fi same as the first creative zen? i do hope they first fix the SD-Card integration with their zen players.. :(

@calvin: It’s for chatting in IM. Pretty much useless for most people.

Anyway, I just saw the X-Fi yesterday at the event and it was almost weightless! Maybe it was just because it’s a demo unit. And as I expected, I didn’t like the sound of the X-Fi enhancements. They should have added more tracks on the demo units. <_<

    Should I warn you.
If you are planning to review this player..
    I’m a creative freak BTW.
Please include sound quality verdicts ;)

hi yuga, what is the most interesting thing you found in the event?? ;)

  13. Avatar for Patrick Patrick says:

Well it’s about time! This has been released months ago. Anyway, I’m not overly excited about these “enhancements” they’re offering with their new products. From what I’ve heard of X-Fi technology, I don’t think I will like it. I prefer my music sounding more natural.. if that makes sense. The custom EQ should be good enough for PMPs.

I’d get a Creative player any day over an ipod though. I just like the sound of their players more. Anyway, I hope to see this tomorrow when we go to the exhibit. I would get this if I didn’t already have the older Zen which I already exhaustively reviewed here:

Sorry for the shameless plug but I just think this might be of interest to those planning to jump on the Creative bandwagon. :D

And is that P8,999 price tag for the 16GB? If it is, that’s a great deal. I got my older Zen for 10k. :(

Christ all mighty! Calcanis doesn’t expect to earn from ads in the next two years.

I’ll link to your review when you’ve done it.

once i had a Zen Vision:M. really really liked it a lot. what happened creative? year after year their products seems to be rubbish. uncool, unappealing to the youth. this X-fi is for “nagmumurang kamatis” bulky, large, pocket nemesis.

i ain’t an apple fanboy but i’d rather move to grabbing that iPod Nano. i have no use for it’s wi-fi capabilities as well as multi-codec support & the x-fi experience. MP3 & Mpeg4 suffice me, a basic simple hassle free (of converting videos) player.
