Creative Zii Sound D5

The Zii Sound D5 belongs to Creative’s top-tier flagship speakers line-up — it’s both an iPod/iPhone docking station and a wireless speaker system.

This award-winning speaker system (Red Dot Award for Outstanding Product Design) does not only come with an elegant design but also an impressive audio performance.

This one-piece speaker is a bit heavy at 8.4lbs and the rectangular body spans about 42.5cm across. It’s got a simple design, with half of the body covered in thin mesh clothe at the top and front while the sub-woofer is placed at the back.

The docking port is situated at the top end of the speaker which uses a Bluetooth adapter you plug into the iPhone/iPod to stream music to the system. While the music player is docked, the unit also re-charges it at the same time.

The volume controls of the D5 is cleverly incorporated into a touch panel found in a strip of glossy, black plastic in the middle.

The wireless streaming can reach up to 10 meters but that’s applicable at a line-of-sight. The distance is reduced when there are barriers and walls around.

Sound quality of the ZiiSound D5 is impressive — clear and crisp audio even at high volume, great loud bass and a pretty even level of depth and clarity. For a small unit, the D5 can get very, very loud given the right input. The bass is also very solid although don’t expect it to pound the floor like mighty Thor’s hammer (besides, the bass speakers are firing towards the back and not downwards ).

Expect to shell out some serious money for the ZiiSound D5 (between Php10k to Php15k). Will post update one I get local SRP.
