D-Link Load-Balancing Router: 2-in-1 DSL Router

Found this at the PC Express website:

“The DI-LB604 is the newest addition to our range of routers that includes the industry’s latest technology. It provides all the functionality needed to establish a reliable high-speed Internet link while at the same time protects past investments,” said Mr George Wong, Marketing Director of D-Link International Pte Ltd.

The Load-Balancing Router with features 2 WAN ports for load-balancing and a fast-acting fail-over mechanism for dropped Internet connections. 4 Ethernet ports provide wired connections to up to 4 computers. Thus, users can set up a high-performance network that offers the fastest and most reliable speeds, without sacrificing their past investments.

Advanced Network ProtectionWith SPI and NAT firewall with DOS attack protection, the DI-LB604 provides secure and reliable network connections. System logging, ACL and VPN pass-through protects the network against outside threats.

Easy Management and SetupThe DI-LB604 can be easily configured using its web-based management interface.

The DI-LB604 Link Load-Balancing Router will be available soon at all PC Express branches.

If from what I understand here is right, this means you can hook up two DSL accounts and combine them into one router and get an effective connection rate equivalent to the sum of both broadband connection.

So, I have an existing PLDT myDSL at 1.2Mbps and another Smart Bro account at 386Kbps. If I use the DLink DI-LB604 router, I could have 1.586Mbps connection speed on my network. If one is down, the other is still hooked up. Cool! I want one!

    i have more than 50 PC’s under my pfsense dual-WAN router/server. my server is just a low-profile old CPU;
    -Pentium 4 2.4ghz
    -512mb RAM
    -512MB M2/memorycard via USB (serves as my hardrive with pfsense installed)
    -3 ethernet LAN card (2×10/100Mbps, 1xGigabit LAN card)

    ISPs:
    -Globe 3Mbps Taipan package 8k/month (using it for 5yrs now)
    -PLDT DSL business plan 3Mbps (using it more than 5yrs now)

    Yup I agree with cybercon. Meron kami sa office F5 link controller 3 ISP ang naka load balance. For example lahat ng VoIP traffic para sa isang ISP (Eastern), tapos lahat ng site na may video’s like youtube sa another ISP (PLDT), then the rest of other websites sa 3rd ISP (Globe). For example nag down yung Eastern, manually ililipat yung traffic papuntang Globe or PLDT.

    Ilang workstation ang nasa office nyo? Kasi i will also be using load balancing dito sa office.

    It does load balance with the new firmware. Set the port Options of WAN and set Connection health check so that it can detect when the connection is broken. E.G, ping the main gateway of each ISP.

    Re: load balancing router..

    Mga bro/sis,

    Hanap ako ng advice..mayron akong existing 3.5 mbps na pldt connection sa internet business ko..im planning na magdag2xg ako additional lines galing parin sa pldt at 3.5 mbps..pwede ba na isang pc serves as 1 server pc for 30 to 35 units pc by using load balancing router?..hindi ba hihina ang speed dahil sa isang pc lang na server?..magkano kaya yang load balancer?..my binibenta ba kau sa davao?..thanks..jerome of Kidapawan City

    Load Balancing is simply a network traffic manageability. Allowing you to use two ISP/WAN into single LAN/internal network to balance your network port traffic and at the same time acts as a fail-over.

    Hindi magiging additive speed nyo if for example meron kang 1Mbps/pldt & 1Mbps/globebroadband.

    You will set a rule to manage the network traffic from your ports assignments to which ever ISP it will go. you have to config your router properly.

    Halimbawa, yung port 80(HTTP) at port 110/25(Pop3/SMTP) ay padadaanin nyo sa PLDT. Tapos yung port 21(FTP) naman ay padadaanin nyo sa GLOBE. In this order, makakaluwag sa traffic yung browsing/emailing at downloading(FTP) dahil magkaiba sila ng dinadaanan. kapag nag download ka via FTP, hindi affected si HTTP/POP3/SMTP dahil magkaiba ng ISP ang dadaanna nila.

    At kapag nag-offline ang isa sa kanila, mag fail-over ito sa kabilang ISP, dyan medyo babagal kase shared sila sa lahat ng net-traffic sa iisang ISP.

    I use the same scenario on pfSense, and it benefits me a lot on this setup for our office.

    hmmm… mga bro… load balancing router ba… i tried D-Link dual WAN… d tlga gmgana jn ng sabay. prang failover lng.. when 1 line is down automatic na gagana ung isa. i switch to EDIMAX…un ska ko ngamit ng sabay ang 2 smartbro. d cya nag a-add ng bandwidth. prang hahatiin lng nilang 2 ang traffic. pro mrmdaman mo na improve ung browsing at ung u-tube ko halos d nagbu-buffer. edimax nlng kau.. wlang inaayawan na connection. whether wireless man cya o wired lines.. u can use both of them at the same time…

    ang alam ko eh halimbawa traffic n ung WAN1 eh saka mg-enable WAN2…hindi cla ngcocombine ng speed…pero once n hindi n kaya ng WAN1 ang traffic eh mgactivate n ang WAN2 to reduce traffic..

  16. Avatar for tazzky tazzky says:

    Best way to do is to subscribe at one internet provider with two lines then combine. I mean like in SmartBro, get 2 999 plans and hook them up on your load balancing router. Well probably it won’t reach the 2Mbps mark but it’ll certainly be stable @ 1Mbps or more. :D

    Mga bobo…

    You people who are saying it doesn’t load balance… you probably tried to download from a single FTP or website. Which is a single connection. A single connection to your computer through the router can only utilize 1 of the wan ports… but start multiple downloads and your in business.

    Try downloading through torrent or using a download accelerator such as IDM or DAP that will use multiple connection.
Sir need help pwede ba ito e setup 2 dsl line din distributed to 40 pc 20 for dsl line 1 din the others 20 to dsl line 2 pwede ba ganito ung setup kasi i need to add new dsl line. kasi medyo mbgal na para segragation ang gagawin ko many tnx hope matulungan nyo ako ty
rybaxs answers:

    Yes, its possible…
    I will show you the set-up

    dslA -> switchA -> 20PC
    dslB -> switchB -> 20PC

    Advantages: speed up the line, dedicated

    DisAdvntges: the problem with this is that when A/B dsl disconnect 20PC at A/B will be disconnected.

    The speed from A and B are different, that’s why we have 2WAN Router or 2WAN Router with WIFI

    ————————————–

    dslA & dslB -> 2WANRouter -> switchA -> 40PC

    dslA/B -> 2WRoutrw Wifi -> wifi PC | swithA -> PC

    You can configure the 2WAN Router

    There are types of Router that you can group numbers of IP. It’s a best way for 2WANRouter to be configure static IP on each terminal due to IP collusion.

    REMEMBER:

    dslA = 1.5 MBpS
    dslB = 2 MBpS

    2WANRouter with dslA&B = ?

    you’re a stupid person if the answer is 3.5MBpS

    private DSL speed will be divided..
    Try the commercial type DSL. Ask the burst speed.

    example:

    dslA private 1MBps fluctuates .2-.8MBps
    .1MBps per PC if you have 10PC

    dslB commercial 1MBps fluctuates .5-1.2MBps burst
    1MBps per PC if you have 10PC
    because they will give you a higher bandwidth.

    What is bandwidth? it is like a bridge
    if your bridge have 2lanes, think of it how traffic your net connection.
    if you have 30lanes bridged. woahh.. i think you can put a cafeteria at the center of the bridge. hehehe.. in layman’s term

    wew…

    thanks!//
