Epson LabelWorks LW-400: Label all the way!

A couple of weeks ago, Epson Philippines brought us to a 3-day Media Challenge in Eden Park, Davao City where they showcased their new line of printers, projectors and labelers for 2012. The LabelWorks LW-400 was the one they actually gave away to everyone who attended.

There are actually 3 models under the Epson LabelWorks (LW-300, LW-400 and LW-900) so this one is the mid-range labeler.

I’m only familiar with those decades-old labeler that’s made of plastic and punches a mold into them to create embossed letters.

In contrast the LabelWorks prints out the labels using thermal paper. The sticker labels feel like laminated paper and are very thin so they can be easily used on any surface without worry. I’m not sure how long they will last though, especially if they’re exposed to humidity or liquid.

The labeler hooks up to a power plug but you have the option to use batteries when you want to bring it out and use it in the field.

The cartridge (sticker label) comes in plain white but we were told you can get replacement cartridge in National Book Store in various colors.

The Epson LabelWorks LW-400 will be available in stores this June and is expected to retail for just Php3,150.

Oh if this is printing using thermal paper, then the print would get erase within days lang. I hope we can get clarifications regarding this because im quite interested in getting this. This is good for printing tag prices sana

Thank you for your interest!

To clarify your concern, let me explain about the two types of thermal technology as follows:

1) Direct Thermal – where heat from the thermal head is applied directly onto treated/coated media (eg. thermal paper) to create the image.

With respect to print outs that are likely to fade, this refers to Direct Thermal technology which is used in receipt printers, and other devices that use thermal paper.

The print outs are likely to fade because the media (paper) is treated such that it has to be extremely heat sensitive.

2) Thermal Transfer – where heat from the thermal head is applied to the ribbon to be transfered onto the media (eg. labels) to create the image.

Thermal transfer is the technology adopted by Epson LabelWorks label printers. Therefore, the media need not and is usually not heat sensitive.

In fact, most of Epson LabelWorks general-usage media or labels are made of PET (Polyethylene terephthalate), which is a kind of plastic commonly used to produce mineral water bottles. Therefore, LabelWorks print outs last for a long time.

3k for a labeler?
i’d rather print out the label on a bond paper then cut it out, use transparent tape then stick it onto whatever needs a label! hehe!

coz that epson labelworks would still need that sticker that it prints out to… pustahan mahal din yun! :))

DYMO, my dear Abe. Used to have one of these, the really old metallic one that looked like an enormous vice grip. Newer models come in lighter plastic material, so I assume it’s much much cheaper than the Epson.

Aw, those were called Dymo? haha Never tried the newer ones but now that I got one, it’s fun to use pala!?

Actually, DYMO is the brand name. The device was simply called a tapewriter. Sometime later, someone came up with the bright idea of calling these devices “Dymo Mite”. Hehehe. Anyway, the one that we have in the family is similar to this one:

Dymo has since progressed to producing plastic labellers and electronic labellers such as the one featured here.

oh! I like this one….good timing for school day! Good for labeling books and notebook of my kid. hehehe I hope to see this in store before the school starts…but sad to say…only few weeks left,
