Gadget porn at Low Yat Mall, Kuala Lumpur

Every city has it’s own gadget mall — the Philippines has Virra Mall, Japan has Akihabara, Singapore has Funan and Sim Lim. Here in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia they have the Low Yat Digital Mall.

This 4-storey building houses the largest collection of gadget shots in the whole of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

The place isn’t as organized as Funan IT Mall and is more like Sim Lim in Singapore. Prices of gadgets and accessories will vary depending on store size and location in the different floors. The most popular ones are smartphones and and cameras but there also seems to be an over-stock of old laptops as well.

Coincidentally, the Samsung Galaxy Tab Plus was already available there yesterday (see story on local release here) and was selling for under Php21k. The Nikon D7000 can be had for around Php42k but we kept on getting out-of-stock replies from most of the stores. One of the girls in our delegation got the HTC Sensation XE for Php22k.

For the most part though, the prices of the items there aren’t much cheaper when compared to the ones in Manila. You just need to be a bit more patience and diligent when looking for great deals.

the term “gadget porn” would usually refer to images or media which showcase gadgets. being that the KL gadget showcase was in the flesh (pun intended), perhaps a different term would have been more appropriate? then again, since the trip seems to have turned out to be more of a window shopping excursion lacking the consummation (pun intended) of an actual shopping spree—“porn” it is.

Virra Mall? Never heard of it. Surely it doesn’t exist outside Metro Manila.
