JAYS t-JAYS One Earphones Review

Looking for a good pair of dynamic high-fidelity in-ear headphones that pack warm sounds with deep bass? If yes, then the t-JAYS One by JAYS might be the one you’re looking for. Check out our hands-on review below.

Packaging

The t-JAYS One comes in one of the nicest packages we’ve seen for an earphone. It’s a slide-out type of shell made of hard plastic and is reusable should you wish to store the earphones back nicely.

Inside is the user manual, the earphones, 5 silicone sleeves (from XXS to L), and the extension cable. We were expecting a small carrying pouch but sadly it’s not included.

Design and Construction

The One sports a different look compared to other earphones because of the shape of its housing. JAYS calls it the Slimline Design – flat and ergonomic. It’s actually an advantage as it holds on properly to that small space in your ear. It’s snug, comfortable, and doesn’t feel like it’s going to fall off easily. Runners and gym-goers will surely appreciate the way it fits to the ears.

As for the build, the whole earphone is mostly made of plastic with the exception to the gold-plated stereo plug. It’s extremely light but feels durable.

Usability

The One comes with a cable length 60cm which is too short for our liking. We can’t even fully lean back on our chair when it’s plug to our laptop. It’s also not long enough to reach your pockets where your smartphone or music player is mostly placed on the go. To compensate, there’s the 70cm extension which gives you a total reach of 130cm. The problem with that now is that you have extra length that you mostly wouldn’t use and ends up in a messy coil. Not to mention that the One doesn’t sport a flat cable unlike its cousin, the a-JAYS One, so it’s susceptible to tangling.

Another issue we noticed about the cables is that it makes a lot of noise which can be heard from the earphones when it rubs against something like your shirt. They call it the Stethoscope Effect. You can even hear some faint howling if you stand against the wind. I might be just nitpicking but hearing that when listening to your favorite tunes can ruin the moment.

Sound Performance

The speakers of the One boasts deep, warm bass notes with great tonal detail. True enough, the One can deliver bass levels with great punch and clarity without killing the rest of the frequency ranges.

We played Lorde’s Royals and the One did an amazing work in delivering the booming beats without getting muddy. It matched Lorde’s vocals which remained clear all throughout. Rock music like AC/DC’s Shoot To Thrill, Alt-J’s Fitzpleasure, and Styles of Beyond’s Nine Thou also sound good, but since the One is more inclined towards deep bass, the guitars, drums, and vocals do not come out as crisp and aggressive as we want it to be.

However, play some bass-oriented music like Hip hop and you’re in for a treat. We listened to BT’s Kimosabe and Terror Squad’s Lean Back and we found them to be punchy, powerful and clear. The same thing can be said to Party music like Tom Neville and Zen Freeman’s Dance B*tch and Bonnie Bailey’s Ever After as it was able deliver the loud and bassy thumping you’d come to expect.

Conclusion

To conclude, the t-JAYS One delivers what is expected of it – great bass performance. However, since it has put most of its weight at the lower end of the spectrum the Highs may sometimes feel that it could use a little more punch. But if you’re a bass lover with a playlist dominated by Hip hop and Party music, the t-JAYS One certainly won’t disappoint.
