Mobile Phones as GPS Tracker

The other night, I bumped into Marc & Sharm while driving along EDSA. They invited me to follow them home for a couple round of drinks. It was almost midnight and since I’m not familiar with their area in Mandaluyong, I thought I’d record our route with the GPS on my phone.

I’ve only been to Marc’s pad once, on a convoy. The second time I tried going there alone to help Sharm bring Marc to the hospital, I got lost and spent two hours going around Mandaluyong. Marc ended up driving himself. This time around, I swear I won’t get lost again.

At least, by tracking our route, I can trace it back again on my way out. I used the Nokia Sports Tracker I wrote about earlier with LifeVine installed on my N82. (Added the green arrow on the map to indicate the destination.)

Indeed, despite the couple of shots of Vodka, it was easier to get out of that Mandaluyong maze and find myself tracing the same route back home. The phone screen of the Nokia N82 was small to get me a good perspective of the map but it was bearable.

Yesterday, I saw a Nokia N810 Internet Tablet on a store in MegaMall and thought it would be a much better GPS device. Only if it didn’t cost Php40k.

Hi yuga! you should have indicate if this phone is GPS standalone. Most of the phones i see at the malls needs wifi or internet connection to access gps and i found this kind of service quite low tech.
