To help China fight air pollution and improve air quality in the country, Xiaomi, one of the world’s largest smartphone maker has unveiled the Mi Air Purifier.
The Mi Air Purifier is the newest member of Xiaomi’s Mi Smart Home family. It features dual fans, four air ducts, 3-layered filter, real-time air quality monitor, auto speed control, and smartphone remote control and alerts to remind you if the filter needs to be replaced.
The device, which only occupies a small area equivalent to an A4 sheet of paper, can remove 99.99% of PM2.5 particles and produces 10,000 liters of clean air per minute.
The Mi Air Purifier is available in China for 899 Yuan (~Php6,500) while replacement filters costs 149 Yuan (~Php1,000).

Impressive and appealing ad. Nonetheless, it is still an INDOOR air purifier after all. There are countless indoor air devices in the market now. How about producing an OUTDOOR air purifier?
1. if xiaomi can work with a company that manufactures personal air devices http://igg.me/at/giftair they will be able to kill any competition.
2. Xiaomi should try developing a mega powerful outdoor purifier that can be to clean up the air on the streets
3. Most importantly, the world needs to solve the ROOT of the problem. and not just continue to pollute our environment anyway just because technology can continue to produce even more powerful devices do nothing to solve the environmental problem.
Sadly, these “miniscule” air filters are not enough to get rid of the smog in their country. China is a seriously polluted country.

now look at the electricity grids of france, canada, iceland, and some US states like vermont. Very small percentage of their power plants are fossil fuel. And they did this decades ago.
They didnt need draconian energy conservation measures (mga practical measures only). They didnt need high prices (France has quite low domestic electricity prices compared to the other EU stes, even if you take into account taxes).
They did it by replacing a non intermittent power source (fossil fuel) with another non intermittent but non polluting power source. Geothermal, hydro and nuclear. Syempre, pagpipilitan mo ang intermittent wind and solar sa non intermittent, e kailangan mo ng either batteries or backup.
Now transportation. Thats a much harder problem to fix. Elon Musk sells electric cars but they are quite expensive
