Korea to have 10Gbps internet speed; PH still at 2.5Mbps

It’s been reported that South Korea will soon be getting 10Gbps of Internet speed which would translate to downloading a 1GB file in less than a second. Meanwhile, Philippines is still catching up at 2.5Mbps according to recent reports.

According to KitGuru, SK Broadband is set to showcase this new technology at the Plenipotentiary Conference of the International Telecommunications Union in partnership with their country’s Ministry of Science, ICT, and Future Planning. This is how their country is showing that they wouldn’t be left behind when it comes to speed given that America paved the way for the birth of the Internet,.

Even prior to this, South Korea has been reigning supreme against other countries by being the number one in global ranking for the highest average in Internet speed (measured in Mbps). This is according to Akamai’s report after the second quarter of 2014.

However, here in the Philippines, we’re still struggling with an average of 2.5Mbps and ranks 103rd globally. We’re above India which has an average of 2Mbps, but below China and Vietnam which have 3.7Mbps and 2.9Mbps, respectively. Yes, our telcos give us promos like 30Mb free internet and free facebook daily while cellsites now have 100% 4G HSPA+ coverage (which later on caused confusion for its subscribers). Still, it’s a far cry when compared to our neighboring countries like Singapore with 10.4Mbps and Hong Kong with 15.7Mbps.

Simple lng ang sagot kung bakit mabagal net sa pinas…d yan dahil 3 lng sila, kundi dahil bulsa lng nila ang iniintindi nila…kumbaga sa FUP, 97% ng kita nila sa bulsa nila nilalagay at 3% sa pag uupgrade ng network…

Nakakatawa ang Pilipinas when it comes to high speed Internet. Ang laki ng binabayad natin dito pero ang baba and lousy service ang nakukuha natin. Pero tingnan mo bingibingihan sila sa mga nangyayari ngayon sa dami ng reklamo na mga postpaid at nagpapaload na consumers eh walang proper announcement. Eh dapat kasi sa mga higher officials o yung nasa gobyerno dapat sila ang gumawa ng aksyon niyan eh wala naman kami magagawa as consumers o as nagpapaloko sa mga telcos eh sila yung makapangyarihan eh sila yung dapat gumawa ng aksyon hinggil sa kabulastugan ng mga telcos.

Dapat talaga pinapasok sa bansa yung isang telco.. Balita ko magseservice sila ang 1gb na net sa bansa kaso pinigilan ng mga garapal na “local telcos” na yan yung pagpasok nun.. -_-
I still wondering kung bakit nagpapauto ang gobyerno sa mga yan gayong alam nilang marami ng pagbabago ang mundo..
Kaya di kataka takang mas masarap ang hack net mula sa kanila.. Atleast my 2mb net ka wala ka namng binabayaran.. Unlike sa mga nagbabayd na kulang pa sa maintenance.. tanga lang.. Mga free net?? pakulo, paasa..
Gusto lang nilang matabunan yung refund na 100 pesos.. TRO pa mga garapal.. -_-

Yes, there are at some point in time that International players like one in Singapore and Taiwan wanted to put up ISP to counter PLDT head-on. But unfortunately they were dumped by NTC due to PLDT lobbying. PLDT must be stopped. And NTC should voluntary abolish itself since they have been non-performing agency and a leashed-dog of our Local Telco. Shame NTC, shame on you.

Slow internet, just like slow progress… Why we pay more for less? Pldt was pointed as the source of our problem. There was a senate hearing if i’m not mistaken about our slow net, any progress after that? Smart net here became slower every 7 until 10 pm for almost a week, and yesterday… I was frustrated because there was no net the whole evening!!! Are people using the free net service during the evening congesting net traffic? What is wrong with smart and globe? Why are they giving free net if they can’t even fix their postpaid connection? Why congest the already congested net with free internet?? Are their i.t. – and their marketing staff stupid? And their president also stupid to declare free net until january?

Mali ata ah. Di pa ata updated ang data nila sa Singapore. Dito kasi ang binabayaran ng barkada ko sa SingTel para sa 500 Mbps na connection niya, is around P3,000 monthly (kasama na pati yung 4G Mobile, na LIBRE pa ha!), pati nga yung janitor nila sa opisina na nakilala ko naka-100 Mbps sa bahay niya. Parang P1,000 lang ata yung plan niya. At ang masarap pala dito sa Singapore kapag may tech convention, uuwi ka na may bitbit na 2 maliit na plastic bags na puro giveaways ng mga kumpanya, di katulad sa Pinas na brochure na nga lang kinakapos pa (Masama pa tingin sa iyo kung hihingi ka AMP!). Dito sa Singapore puro freebies!

iba talaga ang south korea. yun pinsan ko nagtatrabaho dun ngayon at sabi nya wala pa daw siyang nakikitang security guard sa mga establishment dun. kung meron man ay bihira. nagkwento pa sya na yun president daw dati dun ay nagpakamatay nun nalaman na nagnakaw sya(totoo nga ba?)hindi na nakakapagtaka na marami na satin ngayon ang gusto makapagtrabaho sa sokor ngayon.

If Phil. Telcos would not invest in infrastructures to improve their service, our government should step in to regulate prices on internet related services. That way, the customers are protected from paying exorbitant price for sub standard service. Right now, we’re being held hostages by those Telcos. They can charge whatever they want for inferior good/service at our mercy.

Dito nga sa amin, 1k+ ang plan for 1mbps na suntok sa buwan kung makuha mo. Most of the time (-it needs to be stressed) wala koneksyon. Tapos pahirapan pa ang pag contact sa Rep nila, ang mapapala mo pa sa pag tawag eh ang ‘maintenance upgrade’ alibi nila. Lintik! 2 years na kami subscribed, laging maintenace upgrade!? Aba matindi! Wala lang kasing choice eh, isa lang ang isp sa area namin. Tsk3 Bakit ba ayaw nila tularan ang South Korea? Dahil Lugi? Sa dami ng consumer sa Pilipinas, basic necessity na nga, kayo pa na-lugi nyan ah?! Nahiya naman kami sa inyo! Tapos yung isang telco, naglagay pa na fup, dahil 2-3% ng consumer nila ang nagmamalabis sa bandwidth, aba! nakakahiya naman sa 97-98% consumer yan?! kasalanan ng isa, damay ang lahat?! Yung isa, wala ngang fup, ang CIR naman nila ay nasa 0kbps? ok na sana ang cir na 256kbps or 128kbps kesa sa 0kbps! Naturingan nga tayong isa sa mga bansang maraming internet user, bagsak naman ang serbisyo. Nagkataon lang na wala kasi tayong choice! Walang MANDATO ANG GOBYERNO AT WALANG RISKY/FAIR COMPETITOR na haharap sa mga mandurugas na Telco na ‘yan! Bakit kamo? eh pasimula palang yung mga competitor, binabagsak o binibili na agad ng malalaking kompanya! Marketing strategy ng mga Monopolist. Tapos a-ayaw sa Internet Exchange, ‘kamo lugi daw sila?! aba? Kayo pa ang nalugi nyan ah? hindi ang consumer?! Dapat isulong ang MINIMUM CIR na 5mbps/1000php!!!

Phil. telcos should start rethinking the way they do business. They should do away with this free internet crap and instead provide us with better service. In the same vein, unsatisfied consumers should never waver and relentlessly demand what is due to them. Funny how some people can easily be appeased with paltry promos.

at ang kagandahan pa dito e mura. nasa 1k pesos lng ang 100mbps ko sa bahay tpos mga 400 pesos ang 10gb lte sa pocket wifi. sana ganito na rin satin in 2-3 years.
