Sharp Announces 5.5-inch 4K IGZO Display Panel

You think Quad-HD resolution on a 5-inch screen is overkill? Sharp begs to differ and thinks that users, especially those on Android, deserve something “better”. So they announced the world’s first 5.5-inch IGZO display for mobile phones with a whopping 3840 x 2160 screen resolution.

By working out a simple calculation, Sharp’s new 5.5-inch smartphone screen with 4K resolution will equate to even lower battery life a ludicrous pixel density of 806ppi. Call me crazy, but if that still doesn’t fall under the overkill category, I don’t what does.

For the most part, regular consumers won’t need that many pixels on their 5.5-inch screen as we pointed out in the past. Sadly, we don’t really have a say on what components will be included on our devices and in the spirit of “more and bigger is better” ideology, manufacturers will just happily slap this panel on their flagship device with utter disregard to other aspects like battery life.

For what it’s worth, we think that the only rational explanation for having this kind of display is for 4K content consumption. Smartphones with 4K display will no longer have to resample the content to fit lower resolution display, which theoretically results to better viewing experience.

Another point of consideration is virtual reality. Having that many pixels on a relatively small screen, combined with some kick-ass audio setup, will provide more immersive experience for the user. But until such time that 4K contents become more mainstream and VR technology gained enough traction in the consumer market, Sharp’s newly-announced 4K LTPS IGZO display will, in our opinion, just be another impractical addition to the flagship smartphone of the near future.

Sharp stated that the 5.5-inch IGZO display panel will enter mass production in 2016.

Whats wrong with forward tech? Youre thinking is like, in working condition pa naman ang concrete roads ah, bakit aspaltuhin pa? Simple, dahil mas maganda ang naka aspalto.

Hindi ko maintindihan ang nag rereklamo sa advance tech. Kung ayaw nyo e di dun kayo sa gusto nyo, hindi para sa inyo ang tech na bago kung ganun
