Wablet: How to NOT keep things in stealth mode.

Listen to article

A supposedly Philippine start-up company is secretly brewing a web IM service, much like Meebo. The IM is called Wablet and surprisingly got some attention from TechCrunch, though they obviously haven’t seen nor tried it yet.

Readers quickly filled them in providing clues from job sites and blogs of the in-house developers. Check out the sample Wablet IM on one of the Flash developer’s blog. His about page confirms it all:

Donald manages the entire division of Flash practitioners for a Philippine-based offshore outsourcing company… and primarily the lead Macromedia Flash Develoepr for FBM Software, a US based software development company with a development center in Manila, Philippines.

The company also posted some job ads for Web Developer and Linux Administrator back in late May at Jobvertise.

Pretty much similar to Friendster Mobs, only difference is that the latter uses Ajax while Wablet is implemented in Flash.

There goes the stealth mode. I suppose FBM Software doesn’t have any Company Blog Policy.

The company might just be FBM Software named 5 times already in an attempt to run away from past experiences.

The TechCrunch Wablet review is in with some concerns about being Pinoy-made. I signed up for the closed alpha.

It’s really amusing how they tried to keep their movements under wraps while Badongers was giving everything away on his blog. I even caught a screenshot of his post about a ‘buggy’ app of his called Wablet. That post is already gone, but you can check my blog if you wanna see it.

@ badongers

This post was actually inspired by an earlier entry over at TechCrunch. I didn’t see any official word from the developers of Wablet so I thought it was nice to do some more digging. Thanks for clarifying that for me. ;)

your profile description is not my job description at fbm. that was taken from primesoft my prev company. during the time of posting the wablet thingie, we are given the liberty of blogging it or even posting it in social networking site.

and for the record; we did not start any hype about it nor is attempting to start one, we are still trying to be stealth atm.

I agree, this is stupid, just launch or show something, if its not all to be, people will be very disappointed, people will also get sick of waiting and forget about it.

I use http://www.koolim.com for my web messenger at work and at school since they both blocked meebo and the ability to download applications.

‘Stealth-launches’ are simply stupid. This train of hysteria and hype won’t last, and I cannot wait for that to pop.
