PLDT intros myBro Plan499 at 512Kbps, capped at 3GB

PLDT has introduced a more affordable plan under their myBro fixed wireless internet services. A new PLDT myBro Plan 499 plan offers up to 512Kbps of WiMax service with a monthly bandwidth cap of only 3GB.

In June 2012, PLDT/Smart re-branded its fixed wireless residential internet service from SmartBro to myBro (originally Smart WiFi). The SmartBro brand now only covers mobile wireless services (Plug-It, Pocket WiFi, Rocket, Rocket WiFi).

During that time, they introduced two plans — a myBro Plan 799 with up to 512Kbps unlimited internet at Php799/month and a myBro Plan 999 with up to 1Mbps unlimited internet at Php999/month.

It looks like they have dropped the unlimited myBro Plan 799 and replaced it with a more affordable myBro Plan 499. The new myBro Plan 499 will still have speeds of up to 512Kbps but will be capped at 3GB. Once you reached the cap, you will be redirected to the myBro portal where you can buy more bandwidth.

The service plans comes with a WiMax Pocket Modem for single-user access only and you will be charged an additional Php100 a month for its amortization.

According to the myBro website, a 3GB cap will give you approximately 10,000 minutes visiting Facebook. That’s 166.7 hours or just a little under 7 straight days before you ran out of bandwidth.

Isa ka siguro sa mga freeloaders na laging tumatambay sa mall para maka higop ng libreng wi-fi. ….meron akong kilala linilibot ang mga wifi spots sa QC para hindi mahalata ng mga sekyu. Hahaha

Nakakaubos pa naman ako nang 6GB Every day sa bandwidth sa Tablet ko lang Worth of HD Youtube Videos.(Using 1.5 MBPS Skycable, Usually getting 1.41-1.49 and sometimes above actual max speed)

BTW, I am not a couch potato @ 175lbs 15% Bodyfat so no, di pa ako todo babad niyan.

Sobra naman baba nang mga cap dito sa De Repablik of Da Pilipins… dapat na bandwidth natin nasa 32-256GB para maging very usable

  3. abuzalzal says:

Yiiiikes!

  4. roy says:

This is great for non-heavy users like lolos and lolas, mom and dads who just wants to facetime or skype with their loved ones from time to time.

    • abuzalzal says:

Skype? Facetime? Lol. Matakaw sa data ang mga yan brad. …3 gigs baka isang kurap lang yan ubos kaagad. ….the best way to conserve 3 gigs is to use a data efficient browser like Opera Mini. …walang video call. …Viber pwede na rin siguro

    • roy says:

I know matakaw sila, sabi ko naman from time to time hindi yung 10 oras kada araw. Hindi naman lovers ang usapan. About 23.3 hours of Skype usage din yan (at recommended quality) and 54.61 hours kung lowest quality video call 128kbps (pero manageable). Better pa kung VOIP call lang.

      https://support.skype.com/en/faq/FA1417/how-much-bandwidth-does-skype-need

      3GB = 3145728KB/(300kbps/8)/60sec/60min = 23.3hrs.

malamang the 3 gig includes upload and download. My average is usually 40gig ul and 40 gig dl a month

  6. JP says:

This would be *shrugs* okay if the lock-in period was six months or less; otherwise, even old people would find the cap to be severely crippling. A half day’s YouTube browsing alone can consume more than 3 gigabytes.
