Steve Jobs resigns from Apple, Tim Cook is new CEO

Apple has just made an announcement that its current CEO, , has resigned from his post effective immediately and will be replaced by .

Steve sends this letter to the public:

To the Apple Board of Directors and the Apple Community:

I have always said if there ever came a day when I could no longer meet my duties and expectations as Apple’s CEO, I would be the first to let you know. Unfortunately, that day has come.

I hereby resign as CEO of Apple. I would like to serve, if the Board sees fit, as Chairman of the Board, director and Apple employee.

As far as my successor goes, I strongly recommend that we execute our succession plan and name Tim Cook as CEO of Apple.

I believe Apple’s brightest and most innovative days are ahead of it. And I look forward to watching and contributing to its success in a new role.

I have made some of the best friends of my life at Apple, and I thank you all for the many years of being able to work alongside you.

Steve

Tim Cook has had experience running as CEO of Apple in the past, when Jobs was on sick leave before so he’s the most logical replacement for Steve.

Jobs will remain as Chairman of the Board though so he’s not completely gone.
Apple stocks went down by a mere 5% after the announcement.

Question is, will he be as charismatic and effective as Steve?

  1. His resignation might be a reason but not solely for the stocks falling. Its also partly because of their loss in their patent battles.
i’m looking forward to Apple’s next comeback though.

  2. HP dropping products, Jobs resigning, it’s just one big tech news after the other. What’s next?

  3. With this, I can smell Apple’s downfall. Apple went so innovative because of Steve Jobs. He’s simply the brain and the heart of Apple.

I remember the days when Steve Jobs underwent a cancer treatment and he temporary left Apple. I just noticed that Apple temporarily lost its innovation when Jobs left for his treatment. And now, look, Jobs totally left the company now.

This is definitely a big shocking tech news…with apple losing the man behind the company’s innovative ventures, how can they retain their former glory?

  4. Sure Steve Jobs made wonders but he’s definitely not a god nor irreplaceable.. THere’s definitely someone out there who’s as good as him if not better. Its just a matter of time.

  5. Yes! Sana malugi na ang Apple para konti na lang ang mga fanboys.

  6. IMO, the new CEO looks like your average pedophile. I am not joking. Steve Jobs is irreplaceable. Apple is Steve Jobs’ wife!

  7. He is a lost to the Apple, but change happen daily. We know that he performs well, he build and rebuilds the company. He is the magnet that draws customers.

  8. thisisbadbro

  9. Di mga marunong magbasa… Steve will remain part of Apple as Chairman of the Board. Sayang pinag aralan nyo kung di nyo naiintindihan binabasa nyo.

  10. i suggest to use language you’re more comfortable using *OFF TOPIC*

  11. “you have to trust that the dots will somehow connect in your future. you have to trust in something. gut, destiny, life, karma” – Steve Jobs

  12. I’m going to miss Steve Jobs at Apple. He’s someone I admire and respect. A visionary. I hope Apple stays strong and that he’ll be OK.

  13. ‎”Being the richest man in the cemetery doesn’t matter to me. Going to bed at night saying we’ve done something wonderful; That’s what matters to me.” – Steve Jobs

  14. “yeah! kill all those stupid apple fanboys who claim that apple gadgets are the superior gadgets in the world. and sorry, steve jobs isn’t a god that apple fanboys can worship.” —- Juandelacruz

    wat da……

    KILL????? as in KILL?????
dahil lang sa apple papatay ka na?

  15. Let’s see if the cult of personality that is Apple will survive the loss of it’s head “messiah”.

  16. iQuit

  17. Thank You for the i’s Steve. Good Job!

YES! Steve Jobs is a great leader, Sa mga nagreply ba, meron ba sa inyong kayang tapatan ang ginawa nya sa isang kagalingan ng tao. hay! peace. :)

  19. lol everyone’s saying apple is done for. go google what a CEO does. his main duty is management. the real innovator is a company, not one person. there’s a special division in lots of companies whose main focus is innovation. steve still works for apple, but as chairman of the board of directors, which is another position i bet all the scrub haters don’t know of. now he has even more authority, even over new ceo tim cook.

just bc you cant afford their products it doesn’t give you the excuse of ignorance. fanboys are fanboys for a reason. go back to your basement if you even have one.

  20. Get well soon mr. Jobs ^_^

  21. Just as I thought, this is a big opening for the trolls, wannabes, and pretenders to troll/brag/pretend.

Anyway, it’s a big loss for Apple but I’m sure that they can still make it. They owe it to Steve Jobs to ensure that his legacy lives on.

And to all haters, be thankful for Jobs who envisioned and implemented the new ball game for techies. If not for him, I doubt that we would enjoy the same smartphones, tablets that we have right now. Samsung, HTC, etc admittedly create great products too but they do not have the balls to create the new trend like Apple. They are just followers.

  24. nice timing. that’s what you call “quitting while you’re ahead” in a sense. in other words, exit na sya while he is still basking in his glory. hindi rin madali maging CEO. it’s better being remembered as the person who did so much for apple.

for those ignorant people out there, ang CEO ay UNDER ng Board of Directors. in many companies, the CEO is also a member of the BODs. yon nga lng, while the CEO is not doing something beyond the limits of his authority, he’s got the power to do what he wants but then, the BOD can overturn any of his decision if they would like to do so at kung makuha ang sapat na votes. mag research kung di alam ang binabasa.

  25. Katulong namin binigyan ko ng Android phone. I’m still loving my Iphone4..

  26. haha natawa ako sa post mo scandid. that is why i prefer iPhone.

  27. I will miss Steve Jobs. I think Cook will also do a good job like Steve =)

  28. We will surely miss the man who made everything nice for technology fans. God speed to Steve Jobs.

  30. nakakaawa tingnan ang mentality ng ibang taong nag popost dito (mostly apple fanboys)

Thanks to Steve Jobs for developing underdeveloped markets before like the mp3 and smartphone market. I hope na wag pilitin ni Tim Cook yung lawsuits nila ngayong napatunayan falsified documents nila.

  31. Steve was my idol and my mentor. I always watch his speech, it’s just amazing. I wish him well and thanks for the revolutionary products you gave to this generation.
