What if, just like what Microsoft did with Windows Mobile 6, Apple also used the same Mac OS on the iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch instead of developing iOS? Would the iPhone be as popular as it is today? Maybe not. Check out below how it would have looked it.
It would still rock, somehow, for Apple fans but it sure is not the prettiest sight. If you still like it that much, you can actually get it as a theme on your iPhone.
It’s called OS X Lion Ultimatum (which is basically a DreamBoard Theme). You can get it here.

an ultimate “what if?”. nice search sir abe! lol
Bob says:
I’m happy with the normal theme of my iPhone. The screen is too small and my thumb is too big for the Minimize/Maximize and Exit buttons.
MyMaria says:
I think you have to actually buy the theme from The Theme Outlet first. It’s not free. :(
Respironics Cpap says:
The Mac OS looks pretty cool on the iPhone, but I agree with the others. It’s way to small.
Jhoravi says:
Whoever wrote this article is misinformed.
1st, Microsofts WM6 is entirely different from it’s desktop counterpart. Apps between them are not even cross compatible.
2nd, Mac OS is made for X86 architecture and is not portable even with massive modification to ARM processor of iPhone. What this means is they have to write an entirely fresh new OS for the ARM architecture…..introducing the iOS.
Romar says:
@Jhoravi
1st, WinMo 6 is based from Windows CE kernel, a trimmed down version of the windows OS. They are technically different but generally the same.
2nd, I agree, but iOS also uses the same XNU kernel as the MacOS do, only trimmed down or a hybrid. So again, technically different but generally the same.
Jesser says:
I already have this on my iPod Touch 4th Gen, I actual loving how the OS looks like and performs. But I noticed that some of the apps are crashing for some reasons that I don’t know. Maybe because the iPod Touch has lower RAM(256MB) but I must say that it is great app/theme.
nameless says:
Maybe it won’t be a hit. Why? iOS is very popular for it’s user friendly features. Windows mobile 6 devices before are for techie jerks. New users of iOS can get used to it just after few hours of trying.
Unlike in Windows mobile, just like the case of my father, he already has this phone for almost a year yet he still doesn’t know how to use its full potential.

If it is appropriate they can do it.
lol says:
“iOS is derived from Mac OS X, with which it shares the Darwin foundation, and is therefore a Unix-like operating system by nature.”
Jake says:
MAC OS X has restrictions in iOS. It is more unlikely due to security purposes. Thats why Apple decide to do it separately. :)
