LG & Nokia Sale: The Aftermath

By this time, both the LG Optimus One and the Nokia C6 sale are both over and we’ve got multiple reports from various locations about how it went down. Estimates put hundreds to thousands of people lined up for both sale.

Our ground correspondents tell us there were a lot of people who were in the malls even before the gates were opened. Here’s a photo of the line in there today.

People were running from floor to floor just to line up for each of the sale. As expected, the events were disorganized and for the lack of a better term, chaotic. At the end of the sale, people were booing and shouting to boycott LG.

Unfortunately, only an estimated 20 to 30 people were able to buy the Optimus One per location in the one-hour window. We’re still getting numbers for the Nokia C6 but I imagine it will be like double that number for the 2-hour period.

Share us your experience below if you were there today.

  1. chaos

  2. Sorry, I already posted my experience dun sa Sale Vote (bago lang kasi to >_<). Anyhow, repost na lang:

SALE REPORT: My friend and I arrived sa Megamall at around 11am (almost 12) at nagulat kami na yung pila is stemming from the 4th floor all the way to the 1st. That’s for both LG and Nokia.

Right there and then, we knew it was hopeless (for us at the very least).

I’m guessing that things ended up badly there. Before we ended our shopping spree (yeah, namili na lang kami ng mga “kailangan” namin), 30 minutes before 3pm, we decided to check how things were working out. Tapos nakita namin that there were still lines hanggang sa baba. Unless of course if they decided to extend the sale. Pero we wouldn’t know anything about that kasi nga umalis na kami.

Oh well, ganun talaga. It’s really not intended for everyone. I ended up buying a sturdy bag instead (and I’m loving it. Hehe).

Anyhow, congrats sa mga nakabili. For the rest, I’m sure this is not the end. May susunod pa yan.

  3. boycott all LG Products!

  5. Goodness, I arrived there at around 10:20 and the line was already long. I told myself it was not worth it to wait. My friend went there earlier, as in opening. He bought one at full price instead of lining up for one. The 20-30 people who got an Optimus One are lucky! Haha.

  6. Andaming mga pulubing aso ang nakapila. Solid. Ampapangit nila. Lalo na ung mga babae.

  7. wow epic fail on the part of LG and Nokia. this is not how you do a proper sale tsk tsk!

  8. that’s just one part of the line. i’ll upload more photos later.

One Day, One Hour, One Big Joke!!!

  9. for PR purposes only well bumaba kasi sales ng LG worldwide ngayung third quarter ng taong ito(base sa gsmarena.com)
SA MGA PUMIPILA SA MEGAMALL AT NORTH EDSA:
BUMIBILI BA KAYO NG NFA RICE??? SHORTAGE BA??

  10. I was there 10:15 a.m. and the line was already long WOW! both in Nokia and L.G. (I was there to get a copy of #black ops. @Itech.)

  11. ugh.. i got there as early as 10am and still wasn’t able to get the lg phone. additionally the event was totally disorganized and chaotic, and some of the people that lined up to the 5th floor cheated and jumped in line (not that it helped them if only 20-30 people got the promo) >:-(

i still want the phone though. the specs are great for an entry level android phone but i will probably wait until after christmas or next year when the price drops more.. or if there is another sale coming up (very unlikely though).

  12. Go HTC and Samsung hahahah.

  13. SM CEBU. LG & NOKIA .chaos

  14. haha, magulo ung event, madaming tao di pa bukas ung mall marami nang pumipila sa labas. hahaha

  15. lets officially boycott all LG products, kick them out of the Philippines, we don’t need these @!#$%^&*(()company that fools and take advantage of consumers for publicity,

think of what they did, do you expect a good after sale, support & customer service from them, sa SALE & PROMO palang they try to fool, trick you, what more when you need them for support & service.

  17. actually now that i think about it this may have been a good thing that i didn’t get the phone. a lot of phones look good spec-wise but fall short on actual performance. i may have saved myself some money.

i think i will just wait until sir abe does a proper review of the phone(s) first before deciding what android i will be buying.

this whole experience still leaves a bad taste on my mouth for LG and Nokia (the company/pr dept) though. someone should have put more thought on the promo and its organization.

  18. hintayin niyo na lang huawei ideos. :P less than 10k froyo 2.2 na rin. hehehe.

  19. I was at SM North here’s my blow by blow account
9:30am arrived at SM North Annex, guard told people to line up. This is on the ground floor entrance
10:05am 4th floor nakapila malapit sa LG Store near the escalator. Dito pa lamang naririnig ko na from the chatter ng mga nakapila na di naadvise ng LG ang guards, no coordination, so nagkaroon ng dalawang pila.

10:45am Someone had a brilliant idea to “fix” the line. Once there was movement, people from our line and the other line started a mad dash. Where there was a line became a lump of people. I and most of the people in the line was shocked with this turn of events. I counted like i was the 35th person in line and then i was not in a matter of seconds.

10:50 Approached one of the guards and asked who was his commanding officer. I gave him a piece of my mind and told him this was not how to handle crowd control. Pasalamat kayo walang nasakatan, otherwise kayo ang unang masisisi since mall security and crowd control is your job. You also not move people with out the proper barricades or even ropes to organize the people. Also you should have identified which ones were part of the line and cleared the area before starting to move people and this should be in a coordinated effort.

11:00am Watched the sea of people bite to and claw their way thru the sea of people to come first in line. Guards started segragating the lump into 4 small lumps. After this I shook my head in disbelief and just went home. Waiting for a better organized promo from the other manufacturers like Samsung, HTC, Sony Ericson and probably Cherry. For sure they would have learned from the what history will now call the LG 50% Optimus One Sale Fiasco.

There were a lot of things that aggravated the situation from the people trying to get the phone whom do not want to in line, to mall security that should have markers already upon opening the mall where the people should line up, most imporatantly the organizer, whom did not organize anything, LG.

A lot of people, including me is pissed at LG. Looks like their promo backfired rather than help their image.

The event was an EPIC FAIL.

Ang haba ng pila sa Megall, I came there roughly 11am.

While on the other side of the store, may isang guy na may DSLR at kuha lang ng kuha ng pictures.

Haha.]

  22. Abe, you forgot to mention that in Megamall there were already people in the line even before the Mall officially opened.

The guards themselves said they’re from Fitness First and employees from their other tenants.

    EPIC FAIL.

People are shouting in Megamall LG event “Boycott LG” and “LG means ‘Lg G@g0′”. Other people were also hitting on Google Android. That’s the sad reality, Android’s image was also hurt because of LG’s epic failure.

Oh btw, I just remembered, other people read LG’s super sale in tabloids and heard it in radios. So why? Why do that when the sale is only 1 hour; [2] their stores can only accomodate a limited number of people; and [3] they will only come out with a limited number of units?

Contrary to your previous post about what LG said that they did not impose any limit to the units, the people from LG Megamall said it themselves = 50. And people are aware themselves that there will be only 50.

No one’s leaving because they want to fight for it vs. the cheaters.

There are so many stories, may nag-away pa nga because an LG employee wants some group of guys to fill-up some paper but the other people there are united in telling that LG employee that those group of guys were never there before. And the LG employee still insisted that these mysterious guys to sign-up.

So what was that all about? Kamag anak? Kaibigan? Favoritism?

I pity those na nadapa, nauntog, nalalag sa escalator nung nagbukas ang mall _officially_, only to find out mahaba na pila sa LG Megamall.

  23. Hey Calvin,that’s a great suggestion… =) fortunately i didn’t go to the sale! hehehe
i hope samsung can give some discount for their android phones,i think they do mobile phones much better than nokia&LG! what you think sir abe?? :)

  24. it was purely marketing bullshit for lg. from the start they know lots of people will line up. but hey what they do? they let people go there to line up and then prepare one cashier for hundreds of people? actually i depended on what the lg rep. told you. anyway, i hope this will never happen again. it’s better in nokia store, maaga they distributed stubs to their patrons. those people who were not given the stub just left.

  25. @daddyjoey;

    Agreed.
“One Day, One Hour, One Big Joke!!!”

  26. LG NOKIA FAIL.. they were unprepared and dis not know what they were doing

  27. LG + SM = EPIC FAIL!

  28. it only shows how uncaring, unprofessional and cheap the owners and official resellers of LG and Nokia are in the Philippines, tsk tsk tsk. FAIL FAIL FAIL

  29. FAIL

    2 hours NAKAPILA ?

sna hnd na lang sila nag paasa ..

na sikip pa sila ng mall

  30. Samsung and other cellphone companies should take advantage of this failed cheap publicity stunt of Lg and nokia

  31. A lot of angry people O_O

But I guess we can’t blame them. LG wanted publicity, and they got it. Although, it’s more of bad than good, still publicity tho’. XD

  32. kc naman kung naging honest lang yung LG(Lokohan at Gagohan) n 20 units per store lang ang ititinda nila mas konting tao sana ang magagalit at pipila cnong tao b naman pipila hangang sa basement kung 20 units lang ang half price pero ano ginawa nila may 1 hour pa silang n lalaman i hope Karma catches up to LG for what they did this day

  33. dumating ako dun sa Megamall bago pa nagbukas yung mall, i decided to take my car and dun na ako sa parking entrance dumaan since it’ll be closer sa LG store. At around 10am, the guards let us in and everyone from the gates were running. By the time we got to the Nokia and LG shops, there were already 2 lines of around 30-40+ people. We had no idea which line was for LG or Nokia so nagtanong pa kami. I realized that those people who were lined up ahead of us were already inside the mall even before the mall hours since relaxed na sila and hindi tumakbo like all of who waited at the entrance. We tried to get clear instructions from the people from LG but we were just given vague information on how they will distribute the units. Hell, they can’t even give us an idea of how many units they have ready for the sale. I mean every LG personnel there should at least have an idea. There were so many things they could have done to prevent the chaos. The reaction from sites and forums should have already given them idea that hundreds of consumers are planning to get units. i think i was 100th dun sa pila but from the time i got there up until 3pm, hindi gumalaw yung line. they failed big time!

    LG = LOKOHAN AT G@GUHAN!!!!

  34. but in fairness, one cant really expect a top quality service given the situation.

  35. the whole thing was advertisement… android awareness…

  36. In Davao, only 40 people get to purchase. There were around 200 in line for LG, mas marami pa sa Nokia, tapos magkatabi pa yung stores nila. I was in line at 10:45, then somewhere around 11, someone said that only 50 items are available for the sale. But we don’t mind, I think I was at 70. At 11, they were not even giving out priority numbers, some people said surprise lang daw ang distribution so no one will leave the line. At around 1pm, they said only 30 phones lang ang i-distribute, everyone was so angry, imagine falling in line for hours tapos they will tell you only 30 phones lang pwede bilhin? Yung isang nanay pinagalitan yung announcer, dapat daw we should been informed para di na kami pumila. Which is a good point. Then again they announced it will depend on how many phones will be accommodated for the duration. Yung manang sabi nya the items will be open and tested in from of the representative, which only means that they intend to release a limited number of phones.

I only had fun because I get to scold a guy who talked non-sense para lang makasingit.

    FAIL!

  37. Fortunately my sister was able to buy a nokia c6. she went all the way from the province. good job sis. kya lang isang unit lang nbili. its for my lil sis. thanks sir abe.

  38. Isumbong natin kay noynoy to, presidente sya ng masa diba? Masa ang naloko at na agrabyado! He should do something about this!

  42. One word, mayhem…

  43. @Pnoy: ang bobo mo

  44. ^^
after the LG Optimus One Sale – SM Megamall Cyberzone

  45. Thanks Sir for posting the news about this event, and now I’m one of the lucky few who was able to get my very own Android phone in Megamall :D Thank you!!! I’ve so wanted an Android phone for such a long time, and thanks to this sale, it fitted right into my budget. :) So very very much THANKS to you. It’s just so sad how the service was quite terrible. It took roughly 5 minutes for each transactions, and for the first 30 mins or so only 1 counter was open. Very disappointing. :|

  46. major epic fail.
eto kakauwi ko lang. i was there as early as 8am. i hope the LG employees burn in hell. ’nuff said.

  47. I agree, isa rin ako sa dismayado, hindi na ako pumila ayaw ko kasi mag mukang “TANGA” Nag observed na lang ako malapit sa store, I noticed some staff of LG naguusap parang hindi nila alam ang gagawin kung paano ma handle ang mga tao. Syang talaga ang oras. It’s a lesson to learned. Sana lang may pumila pa sa kanila!!! Ako no to LG. NALUKO TAYO..

  48. @ mon makuto
    agree!!

  49. Good evening guys,

  50. about the video buti hnd nag batuhan at riot mukang konti n lang sasabog n yung situation

    EPIC FAIL!!!

  52. My boyfriend and his friend arrived in Mega at around 8am. Pagkaopen ng mall para daw Amazing Race kasi unahan talaga pag-akyat sa 4th floor, kaso pagdating sa LG store andami ng nakapila (SM employees and Fitness First members DAW). Nasa pang-100 sila but the LG staff keep on assuring them that they can still be accommodated since unlimited ung units.
Napaka-disorganize, he’s so dismayed with the turn out of the event. Bad publicity for LG Philippines as a whole. EPIC FAIL.

  53. i just realized, nasa picture pala ako. haha!

  55. This is worse than the Pepsi Number Fever fiasco.
Well I didn’t go there or attempt to buy the phone since I lacked budget and I know that there would be a better Android smartphone for me.
Good thing that there was no deaths or serious injuries.

  56. L (Lokohan) + G (Gaguhan) = KK (Kagaguhan at Kalokohan)

  57. Tsk tsk tsk. Ok so we all know how crappy LG is and how low they can get.
    Now here’s a question:

To all those who were “lucky” to get the phone, how did you do it? Honestly. Recount your stories. No holds barred. So paano kayo nakapasok agad and all that shiz?

  58. looks like LG is monitoring their facebook wall, deleting all post on the sale,
trying to hide the true reaction of all.
try to leave your comments all together and see if they can delete all,

  59. @Mael
I accompanied my GF to buy her LG Optimus One. We managed to get one and we’re 9th on the line. We’re happy, the phone is amazing for the price!! All happened at Gaisano Mall of Davao. :)

  61. @Mael – We have connections.

  62. @GrayFox
    Ah Davao.
Good for you. May pa mo!
Things went really really shitty here in Manila. CHAOS. Dito daw ung even before mall hours may nakapila na sa LG sa loob. Fail. Yawa jud.

  63. @GrayFox, why you got 1 unit lang, why not get 2 if in line na kayo?

  64. @LG RULES

Well then good for you. And I saw another post of “LG RULES” na nabenta na daw niya for 10k. Haha.
So paano nga kayo nakapila way before 10am? “We have connections.” doesnt really tell me much. Dito ka ba Manila?

  65. lg concept store gaisano davao: i thought maaabutan pa ako dahil maaga akong dumating pero wala. ang sabi pa may nakasingit daw. hahai. may nakita pa akong employee ng cp shop dun nakipila nakabili ng c6 at optimus 1. so ewan i dont know what to think. may isa pa paglabas 3 ang dalang bags ng lg. hahai na naman. sana next time dapat online registration nalang tas not the per hour sale but rather on the number of units to be sold. just like the pre order of n8 ng nokia na may free usb drive. i’ll wait nalang for next sale. sana magsale ang samsung galaxy x kahit 30% i’m sure di gaanong pipila dito. hehe. well charge to experience nalang. sumakit ang likod ko kakatayo tas walang napala.

  66. wawa naman kayo dyan sa pinas ha ha ha…dito ako UAE and ako mismo in charge sa showroom ko..alam ko magkakaron din kami nyan dito e…hi hi hi…ano kaya mabibili ko?…android ako..he he he..so I go for the LG optimus one..

  67. Guys! Cool down! Those seeking LGs expulsion from the Philippines means less investment in the Philippines. I just don’t get why you have to say vulgar words just to catch attention.

  68. It got pretty bad out there (SM Megamall), and I was seeing middle fingers in the air when the staff were talking.

I was expecting a low amount of units were going to move, but I didn’t expect them to use every delaying tactic in the book to delay purchases from customers. It leaves a bad taste in the mouth when you advertise about something like this and cheat your way through the time limit.

Having never bought an LG phone in my life, this looks like it will cement the very thought of an LG phone away for good. And I was just helping out a friend get his first Android device.

  69. *galaxy s
    – additional observation: naawa ako dun na galing pa sa malayo pero mas nauna pa sa akin na sa mismong labas na mismo ng door. sana dapat di ganito ang ginawa ng lg if magpopromote sila ng produkto. nung una okay sya but during the sale period na wala na marami na ang nadismaya. may nakakuha nga pero mas marami ang disappointed and dissed lg. i’m not sour graping, but if the aim of lg is to bring smartphones to the masses they should have not limit the time of purchase. hahai talaga i thought i could experience android but nope. i will just continue saving for an htc or galaxy s and purchase it next year.

  72. tama ang sabi it will cause stampede at PALPAK pa.

  74. THE SALE OF LG AND NOKIA MUST NEVER BE REPEATED. Shame on them.

  77. I arrived at mega mall at around 10:30 a.m. at nasa basement na ang pila….grrr… kaya namasyal na lang ako…

  78. booooo to LG sale.. usless ang pinila kanina.. tsk

  79. If evere there would be another so called SALE…announce it only on the said date. HEyyyyyyy LG do not toy with us Filipinos….ano yan tinatakaw nyo lang ang mga tao ….kung gusto nyo mag promo…have it done a whole month …..

  83. Lol have you guys ever heard of the brands blackberry and apple? Nuff said. You want something, work hard for it. Shame on that company, its like feeding hungry hyenas. If you really want something worth the money go for ip4, blackberry, or nokia n97.

  84. I was there too when Megamall opened. Few minutes later, thousand of people already lined up to avail those phones. Around 10:10 AM, we already aborted and decided to just enjoy the day and watch Megamind 3D.

  85. The worst thing about the whole thing is that they still allowed more and more people to wait on the line even though it would be impossible for them to accommodate those people within an hour. Yes, we know that they only have an hour for the promo. But they didn’t stop the growth of the line.

Sana manlang they computed the possible number of people like what Sir Yuga did on his previous post, counted the number of folks on the line, then advised the ones after that they might not be accommodated anymore. Para the folks on the line can decide if they want to stay or not.

Pero, nothing like that happened. Some of the LG folks even stated “stay lang kayo sa line, maaacommodote naman namin kayo.” Paasa, amf.

Wel, as everyone is saying here, bad publicity is still a publicity. Still hoping that LG will make up for this mayhem/chaos/fiasco/possible company destroyer

  86. Very Dissapointing kanina…

  87. By the way, if ever they’re planning to sell limited items, it’s better to just make it “first 100 promo” or so instead of within a limited time frame.

  88. eto kinopya ko lang

“putang ina nyo LG mga gago kayo… (YOU DESERVE MY WORDS!) di man lng sinabi sa ads at sa facebook account nila na ->>60 units<<- lng ang kaya nilang itinda samantalang nasa 50,000 ata ang pumila sa SM North Edsa ang daming nasayang na pera at oras at pagod … ako 10:00am ako nandun tapos 3:00 na wala pa daw nakakabili dahil may demo inang yan. FALSE ADVERTISING."

    source: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xMqIu00TIIk

    SHAME ON YOU!!!!

  89. It was HELL!!!! one thing’s for sure nakuha ng LG ang gusto nila ..na pag usapan cla.. me and my sister is at SM NORTH and hindi malaman kung saan pila daming singit daming pumipila di namn nila alam kung para san yung pila… my lola akala at yun ung sa KAPAMILYA SHOW!!!HAHAHA GRABE muka kaming tanga heheeh pero wla din nmn kming gagawin eh kaya nagpagod na kaming maghintay ng 6hrs!!! at ang pinaka badtrip sa lahat may mga bouncer cla pero nasa loob ng shop lumabas lang nung tapos na..ngek ano kaya yun hindi pla ki-noordinate ng LG ang guards ng SM kaya wala clang alam kung pano nila aayusin mga tao..buti pa sa NOKIA cnabi nila na 40plus lng ata ang unit buti pa yun di na pinag hintay mga tao..Ang susungit pa ng sa LG employee!!! EPIC FAIL LG..

  90. LG Management Sucks… (those in charge of the event at the very least *categorically evil*)…

I was early (8AM)… Then when the doors were opened people gushed in and ran upstairs (even on the wrong escalator) only to reach the store… And when I got there, a line already exists which I found strange considering that I was one of the first to pass the doors.

However, the line was not a big deal(for me at least). What really got me flaming was how they handled it !!

What happened (aside from the mentioned in the article):
    > We constantly asked how many units will be given, they constantly say that it’s unknown (wtf!! can’t they count!)and they might extend the time (never happened).
    > If only a limited number of units are given, then why must they constantly say that “please stay, don’t leave your line, you ‘might’ be given because it ‘might’ extend”. (why do we need to stay there? to be taken photographs of!?! are they running a publicity campaign we are not aware of?!). And another thing… NO STUBS!! (a thing that could make the problem less worse… including the issue of people cutting through lines… *see comments on Nokia)
    > They could’ve (should have!) cut the line early on… they wasted a LOT of our time.
    > LG Employees there -> No Help… at ALL (one even “allegedly” allowed a group of people to cut in the line)
    > They are “insisting” and “persuading” buying customers to open and inspect the units (including booting up android) which takes a lot of time (which i believe is clearly intended.. supporting the first part of this comment ), hence, slow moving line.
    > Fitness First Employees in front of the line (employees in malls can come in earlier than 10AM)

I speak for everyone who came there when I say that… “LG Sucks!” it truly does… and IF you had been there you would feel the same way!!

It is actually my first time to come to this kind of sale and I got extremely disappointed… I never realized this would happen. And now I am really discouraged to come to such a sale… ever…

My agenda tommorrow, I’ll be buying a Samsung Galaxy 5. Sorry LG…

The good side of this story is that I met great people who would eventually share the same sentiment that I have ;)

PLUS: I love all the moms/palengkera ladies nag-iskandalo para sa amin lahat… I really appreciate that, in a very odd way.. O.o

  92. at tagaNokia mismo yung taong yun

  93. i was at sm megamall earlier today to purchase from nokia. it was really a big big fail for their part. THEY WERE VERY VERY VERY DISORGANIZED! SHAME ON THEM! ESPECIALLY DUN SA OIC NG NOKIA MEGAMALL. we were actually questioning them how is it possible that as early as 8.30 am they already gave away stubs, so para san pa yung 1pm-3pm na given time diba? so we were there haggling for them to dispense more stubs so in short pumayag sila pero ang bobong OIC (sorry for the term ah) he went out and gave away stubs dun sa mga bagong pumila to think na maraming tao ang nagrereklamo sa loob kasi maaga din sila dun. they were really very incompitent!!!

  95. because of the turn of events, this lead me to one thing, i’ll just go for htc wildfire. :)

  96. sino may video nung pa-putol putol ung nagsasalita kasi barado sa mga boo… pakipost… hahaha

  97. because of the failed event i’ll go for china phone..

  102. SUPER EPIC FAILLLL!!!!!!!!!!!!!! false advertisement pa!!! BOYCOTT LG!! Napagod tuloy ate n kuya ko…Hindi ba nila pinagaralan pano maghandle ng ganung event?? tsk tsk tsk…. ill stick to my iphone na lang… dapat sinabi nila sa ad na 60 phones yung irerelease eh hini mas worse pa 20-30 lang…. nakakahiya LG…

  104. was able to go to the sale here in Cebu..and to tell you it was hell!!! LG sucks they even tried delaying tactics like he phone shoul be fkin demoed before a customer can purchase it!!! Wtf!!!! And out of the 4 people at the counter, only 1 would work and the others would stare at her!!!!! never again LG!!!

IT’S A FUCKING ONE HOUR WINDOW FOR CHRIST’S SAKE! Anong akala nyo mabiles magbenta ng phone? Ano to sari-sari store? THIS IS A BUSINESS, NOT A CHARITY!!! Mga bobong patay gutom!!!

    – So, matalino/edukado sya nyan sa lagay na yan? LOL

  108. pu?? P!!!! talaga LG.. naku.. kahit anong product nila di na ako bibili.. biruin mo 1000+ ang tao.. tapos.. less 20 lang nabenta nila.. wha the ffff??? hay naku.. kung talaga gusto nila makabenta.. maglalaan sila ng more than 1 na cashier.. biruin mo.. isa lang.. tapos yung iba taga demo.. pampatagal.. ang.. s!!!.. hay naku.. never never ako uulit sa mga ganyan.. dami pa singit.. marketing.. naku.. sa dami ng unsatistied.. eh.. wala ng tatangkilik.. at mabaawasan.. tapos.. puro empleyado pa ng SM ang nabentahan nila… hays…. 10 thumbs down…

  109. the worst marketing ever. di na ako bibili ng LG talaga. parang pilit na ibenta pa sa mga tao yong known as 50% off nila. stupid! eeeewwwwwww. NEVER na ako bibili ng LG products! sana ma LG sila as LuGi! *evil laugh *

  110. I was there before SM Megamall opened. Parang stampede the moment na nagbukas sa may supermarket. Takbuhan paakyat mula 1st floor hanggang 4th floor. Ambilis humaba ng pila. I was there since 10am expecting they would be giving the stub indicate here at yugatech and LG FB page but no. Pinagmukhang tanga ang mga tao kakahintay sa wala. If they have given the stubs at the first hour, eh di yung mga nasa hulihan na hindi nabigyan, hindi na sana naghintay. They wasted our time. I will never ever buy an LG product in my life. That’s a promise! Good for them, bad publicity is still publicity. Hope they got the publicity they wanted.

  112. @applefanboy

    Oo nga eh. Nonsense.

My friend and I were there at SM Megamall (although we arrived a bit late) and upon seeing the Nokia store and LG booth, and the number of people that lined up from 4th floor to basement, we knew it was a hopeless case.

Not everyone can assess the situation at hand properly, so that turd of a man called Alexander Redondo should have gagged his sissy mouth to stop all the crap coming out of it. Sheesh!

Also, I believe there was this intention to deceive the customers. With one cashier counter for both LG and Nokia, dun pa lang you’d know they’re not willing to sell that much units of the P500 and C6.
If it were really an all-out, giveaway sale, they would have maximized their number of employees and available counters.

Opinion lang naman. Anyhow, for you guys who lined up, wag po masyadong padala sa emotion. Hopefully magkaroon pa ng bigger and better events in the near future. :)

NEVER NEVER buy any LG product.. for LIFE

  115. we lined up for 5 hours! The selling process just sucks and terribly slow! they sell 1 unit at a time in LG SM Cebu, which they can do it 2 units at a time or even 3 if they want because they have enough man power! I think they just don’t really want to give lots of unit for that price! I wonder kung meron pang bibili nyan for 13000 after this chaotic even! LG Promo! EPICFAIL!

  116. @asfd – sino ba yang l3ch3ng alexander na yan????? Nakakabwiset ang mga post!!! Kaasar.

  117. Ahh the demoing part… When it was my time to demo the unit, palagi ko sinasabi sa lalake dun na, “ok na yan, ok na yan.” I was really rushing them to just handout my unit so I can leave immediately. I just asked them if they have replacement warranty so I can just thoroughly check the unit at home instead. I really feel the frustration of the people who were in line especially sa mga pang 20-35 na naka-pila sa loob.

    http://on.fb.me/cufao9

    Click the link.

  119. @JKisaragi

yup right! hmmm i guess lets not boycott LG at all, kase so far sa mga nakita kong reviews and videos maganda talaga ang lg optimus one for a mid-range smart phone… yung event lang talaga ang disorganize.. sana inayos n lng nila ng mabuti….kase look kung ok yung event ok din syempre ung feedbback… then marami pang bibili ng lg phones… eh hindi epic fail so they will blame it to the phone company and not in the event itself…lesson learned yan ng lg…

  120. BOBO ANG LG CONCEPT STORE SA SM NORTH.

It was around 1-2 pm that the lines the guards had created became obscure. We did not know where were the lines leading to those “ten stubs” that the LG management was giving. At that time, I asked the guards to fix the lines before the promo starts. This was so, there will be a fair and organized way of getting inside the store.

Suddenly, the lines became more chaotic. And when I talked to one of the guards, he told me that the LG management did not coordinate with them regarding this event. And that they did not expect this number of people participating in this misleading fiasco.

Apparently, the lg management did not expect this number of people either. When my friend and I went to teh store the night before to get some information (i.e. regarding the number of units, the system etc.), we were faced by a rude saleslady who did not give us any information that we might need. She just said, “we are not expecting anything.” What a way to plan and handle an event!

And around 15 mins before the event. I also talked with one of the guys from LG who is giving out flyers. I asked him to fix the lines. And just like a typical person who doesn’t want to assume any responsibility, he put the responsibility of crowd control to the guards. He said that the guards had fixed the lines and if he meddles with that, then things might get more confusing. I said yes, that maybe the case, but if “HE would COORDINATE with them regarding crowd control, There probably be a smoother and more organized flow of crowd going in the store.” Nakakahiya.

So much for what the LG saleslady was saying – that they also desire to give those who are waiting in line their excellent service. I just wonder, where was that excellent service that they proclaim to be giving?

  121. Well alam ko na ganito mangyayari so i said meh… nuod nalang ako ng NFS! XD kahit sa C6 di na ko umasa pag tingin ko ulet naka lagay “no more stock for c6” at bumili nalang ako ng earbuds para masaya ako.

  122. it was really a planned to delay the whole proceedings, just that para lokohin ang tao.

  123. I was supposed to buy since I shattered my phone a couple of days ago, but I saw the posts of people at 11am. My God. Totally not worth it. I went to GH nalang and bought a better Android phone. Yay :)

  124. I was successful in obtaining the Optimus One at half price, so I just want to share my insight.LG was totally disorganized during the sale. They only had 2 cashiers open the whole time, and these cashiers were processing things VERY SLOWLY! It is true that there were only about 20-40 units sold in each mall, which is why I feel that what LG had done was not well thought of. Mixed emotions of fear, guilt, and anger coursed through my veins as I could hear the booing of irate customers whose frustration I can understand.

In defense of LG, they couldn’t have extended their promo even if they wanted to, because their DTI permit would not allow them to. Still, it would have been good if there had been at least 5 cashiers in each store, and a separate area for purchasing and testing! They could have made it in such a way that people would simply pay and get the receipt from 2 pm – 3pm (which would fall under their DTI permit), then go on to a separate area to claim their unit and test it thoroughly!

LG may have gained media mileage but they have lost a very important thing; consumer respect.

    .02

Siguro kung pangit yung units/products nila pwede pang i boycott.

*Hate the game.. Not the player…*

  129. LIPASGUTOM! LG LG LG!

  130. Para akong pumila sa noontime show kanina! never ever will I repeat that kind of experience! I was on 4th floor and stationed at front of SONY but I didnt manage to get one! para san pa yung papers na pinasulat yung names! EPIC FAIL!!!

  131. I was there also, pero di me nagtagal sa pila coz its not really feasible.Dapat maturuan ng leksyon and Lg at ng di na maulit at tularan ng iba as marketing strategy.Dapat gawan to ng Hate site.Dinedelete kasi nila sa facebook mga comments.Meron ba rito gusto magvolunteer gumawa ng site.Magboomerang sa kanila ang awareness campaign nila.

  132. Well, let me share my indifferent story.

    [CH.1: THE ENTRANCE]
8:30 AM, we arrived at SM Annex (at the 2nd floor entrance). To our surprise, there were 50+ people lining up in front of the mall’s entrance door already. At around 9, the line started to get longer, pati yung pila sa ground floor entrance.

    [CH.2: RAZED RACE]
The guards tried to inspect and let each person pass one by one, pero madami talagang sumisingit, so they decided to stop the crowd from entering. After closing the doors, the guards seemed to have a small briefing on what to do. They suddenly opened all entrance doors, removed the inspection table and let the crowd gush in to the mall. Everyone was competing with each other in racing to the 4th floor. Pag nadapa ka, sorry ka. I found numbers of pair-less footwear. But there was no time to spare and no time to stare.

[CH.3: FACING THE DOORS OF HEAVEN]
We finally managed to fall into the correct line (madami kasing pila na wala naman talagang patutunguhan). I tried to count for our current position, which was 72-75 approximately. What a sigh of relief especially when the PA said “Marami po ang mabibigyan ng Optimus One with Google.” By that, we were assuming they would sale out at least a hundred units.

    [CH.4: MISLEADING GUARDS]
The lines may be long, but there were no incidents of tulakan, yet. People in line were very calm, except for those who are looking for their lost friend or relative. Around 10:30 AM, one guard (could be the guards’ officer) decided to shorten the line by making a zigzag queue. But it went horribly wrong. By the time they’ve bent the lines, everyone started to run and push, making the straight line a pool of shouting mobs.

    [CH.5: THEY TRIED AND TRIED…]
Bouncers and extra guards came out to the rescue. They tried to calm the people but they failed. They tried to make a straight line out of the shouting crowd, but again, they failed. People started to get mad and blamed the guards. They have no other excuse except for “Inaayos na po namin ang pila, ang kailangan lang po natin ay magbigayan.” At around 12 Noon, the line was albeit better, the people started to cooperate and became quiet (maybe because they, or we, started to get hungry after 4 hours).

    [CH.6: SINGIT]
Around that period there were people asking their “ka-rellebos” or their company to buy food for them, thus the start of “singitan”. Singit dito, singit dun, every minute nalang may mapagsasabihang wag sumingit. Every succesful singits na mapaalis, the crowd was cheering as if they’re seeing Pacquiao punching his opponent on the face. The LG’s PA started announcing their guidelines for the promo.

“Magbibigay po kami ng sampung stub numbers.”
“Pero hindi pa po kami pwedeng magbigay dahil 2 PM pa po ang start ng promo.”
“We will let in 3 persons at a time, para po maging maayos ang transaction.”
“Mayroong 3 stations sa loob ng store.”
“First, to show you a demo of the LG Optimus One with Google.”
    “Second, for payment.”
“And third, for checking your package.”

By that time, we started regretting falling in line. We thought there were 3 cashiers. Instead, it became 3 stations. We started to lose hope while LG started to give out the numbers.

    [CH.7: …BUT THEY FAILED]
While giving the first 10 people in line their numbers, people started to chant “NO DEMO! NO DEMO!” Everyone wanted them to skip the demo. Why would “new to the smartphone world” customers fall in line for that sale anyway? After finishing the first batch, they started to mobilize the line. But unfortunately, the crowd started to push even more. The guards (including the one inside a telephone company’s stall) wasn’t able to control the situation anymore. People were asking “Bakit po sila eh nandun na? Nauna naman kami?” The guard responded “Pasensya na po kayo, di na natin sila makontrol eh. Tsaka di na kayo aabot, 20 minutes nalang po.”

We started to walk away from that one day, one hour, one chance and one fiasco event.

    THE BLAME TAPE:
    1. LG should have coordinated with the security officials of the mall at least 2 days earlier before the sale.

    2. LG and the security officials should have at least put a line divider (the one we see in banks, accounting offices, cashiers, don’t know what it’s called) so people will not be lost in line.

    3. THE GUARDS (yes, I’m throwing all my anger and bitterness to them) SHOULD HAVE A SYSTEMATIC PLAN. KUNG MAAYOS NA, WAG NANG PAKIALAMAN.

I can’t blame LG that much. They have followed the mechanics all right. I just don’t like the way they handled this event. It seems like rushed to plan this event.

Anyway, during the 2-3pm sale, HTC and Cherry Mobile (I guess they have the same distributor) put up their own sale too. HTC Smart and CM Eclipse for 6,490. They succeeded with this sale, in my opinion. I saw a lady going out from HTC with 8 new HTC Smart units. The store was full too. The CM store was full, although I haven’t seen much Eclipse phones going out from the store.

After the 3pm LG Optimus One Sale, they’ve put up another promo again. 50% on selected LG phones. Until 8 PM, the line for the promo was still long. I guess they did this so they could take back their losses from the O1 units they sold on sale.

Anyway, congrats to those who managed to buy a unit. You people are really lucky.

Now, I’ll test my luck with lotto naman.

  133. @DUH, and all people who are blaming the consumers:

your argument is only applicable for those consumers who came late enough to see the long lines and still attempted to line up. EVEN PEOPLE WHO HAD A CHANCE were not able to succeed because of LG’s poor handling of the sales.

  134. i was there before 10am, di pa bukas sm megamall, mga 9:40 am already in line sa LG. pang mga 60 or 70 na ata ako.

I didn’t even get one. ganun katindi.

I forgot what his name was but he was #49 on the paper where LG had us write down all our info (pang #48 ako)

BOYCOTT! isang malaking false advertisement.!

  137. Everyone is entitled to impart their feedback about this issue. Some of my friends are there hoping na makakuha sila ng android phone for only 6k+. Kahit na meron na silang phone e gusto nila masubukan yung android thingy na yan, pra makita na din yung difference nya with iOS4 and other OS out there. I hope everyone learned their lessons. Ganyan talaga ang buhay, accept it na lang and move on. Peace!

  138. To all who were able to avail of the promos, congrats, for those who missed out, i feel you..

As for me, I did my due diligence yesterday and asked both LG and Nokia about the promo, learned that they only had a limited number of units for this promo, decided not to go push thru with my plans to line up for this and instead order na lang online for the phone that I really want =)

  140. I know marketing is very important in a successful business, BUT wag naman sana yung ganon. Yung tipong PAPAHIRAPAN pa natin ang mga customers just to make your product famous. If masaya ang LG kasi dinumog ng tao ang “EPIC FAIL na promo nila”, well guess what? We, your customers are very disappointed. All the hatred in facebook, youtube, yugatech are strong evidences of what I’m trying to say. What ever UBERLY NEGATIVE COMMENT YOU RECEIVE, LG, YOU DESERVE IT. This is the result of your unplanned actions.

    P.S.
Here’s the LG facebook page guys. You know what to do.

    http://www.facebook.com/mylifesgoodph

  141. does anybody know if there is a dti representative during the event? we were told in Mega that as of 3pm the DTI representative hasn’t arrived yet. if ever there was one, i would like to get the name if anybody know it so that i could file a complaint to him/her. actually this is not for me kasi even if i was able to be in within the 60th mark i am quite sure that i would not be able to get one with the way things are going. but i got irked when i found out that the line was ignored and the people inside buying the phone are connected (friends?relatives?) of the people and the security handling the event.

  142. @mightymouse, may i just ask, ilan yung sinabi nilang units ?

  145. HaHahaha!!! HaHaHa!!!

  146. DTI should not be approving this kind of BS!

  147. Tangina nyong mga whiner. Cellphone lang pinagkakaguluhan ninyo. No wonder this country is going to the dogs. You stereotypical pinoys are mutts.

BOBO kasi. *evil laugh*

  149. I won’t rant anymore, for that would contribute more to a gloomy attitude for this thread.
I just hope that the next time they would have a promotion like that, a better logistics plan can be made, so as to avoid unnecessary frustration from people. And I really hope they have other offers to come.

  150. seriously hoping to bash and crash LG sale at mega today. total chaos!!! thousands fall in line, staffs cant even bother to “cut off” the line and tell people to STOP falling in line cause they dont have enough units to sell. they just ignore and let people fall in line and sold 15 (estimated) units out of thousands of people waiting and hoping. why do buyers need demo? they are there cause they KNOW how to use a phone and WANTS IT!!! this is delaying tactics! why ask people to fall in line? so you can tell nokia in the face that you have longer lines compared to them??? what did the staffs get? death threat?

tapos san san pa advertisement! para san pa??? ilang tao sa metro manila at ilan bbentahan nyo? ilan ba nabenta nyo? tapos sasabihin nyo you guys never imagined many people will come. HELLO?? HALF THE PRICE?!?!?! you cant even explain yourself. people ask the staff questions yet they themselves dont know the answer.

then the line system is not even correct at all. we were there 10AM, the line went straight to basement then up again. yet bakit nauna pa ung mga tao sa basement kesa samin nakapila ng 10AM. i asked the lady on the line and they were there 1PM. yet nauna pa siya samin. WHY?!?!

  151. I was there in G-Mall Davao. It was so not worth the wait. I arrived at 11 am and I knew I had very little chance the moment I saw the line. What I just really hated about LG eh pinaasa lang nila mga tao. But anyway, it’s just a promo kaya huwag dibdibin.. :)

LG could have done something though para hindi masira image nila. I heard there will be another sale like this but I’ll pass kasi alam ko na kung ano kahihinatnan.

  154. Thank God di ako nagpakahirap and thank God I didn’t risk myself getting into this…mayhem. Haha. My God. Word surely got out and people really wanted to take advantage! Unfortunately it was such a sucky situation control on LG’s part. More people will actually be DISPLEASED with this kind of situation and their strategy on promoting their brand ends up backfiring. Too bad because on paper it was actually a really nice promo with a good objective: Android for the masses.

And honestly I don’t believe that they’re selling this “palugi” [below cost]. I’m pretty sure their gross margins/gross profits aren’t below 50% of their sales/selling price.

I’m going to wait for Gingerbread na lang. :D

    http://www.engadget.com/2010/11/13/googles-gingerbread-androids-are-fully-baked-can-the-os-be-far/

    a nice post from Mon,

Tangina nyong mga whiner. Cellphone lang pinagkakaguluhan ninyo. No wonder this country is going to the dogs. You stereotypical pinoys are mutts.

  156. Grabe it’s only a phone with an android OS.

  157. Even if they have 20 people manning the event they could not handle that many people, the only reason that I’m buying it was because of the discount, I would not buy that in its regular price. Good thing for me I did not waste my time queuing because I know they could not accommodate all prospective buyers.

LG people are one BIG FAT LIARS too, imagine saying that the number of unit to be sold are unlimited, only to find out the sad truth….

What I freaking hate most was the way they are enticing gullible would be buyers to instead post for pictures with the korean mascot for a chance to win in the raffle, crap I said to the sales lady that I’m not interested in the raffle, I all I want is to buy the freaking phone at a discount.

To the brains of this marketing ploy, kudos for a job well done, you have elicited that much needed attention to your product, however I’m sorry to inform you that most of the would be buyers and that includes me, are only interested because of the discount, nothing more, nothing less. If you think we would buy it a regular price, you must be freaking dreaming!

  158. So what’s next LG? maglalabas kayo ng AD regarding dito telling na preferred choice ang product nyo? anu?

  159. Sir Abe/Yuga,

    Redeem yourselves LG!

    Ulitin ang Promo!

  160. For all people who just dismiss the comments of those who “whine”:

You won’t know the feeling unless you were there. And you won’t know how anticipation turns into frustration when groups of people are mishandled. As for the people lined up too, a little discipline also should have alleviated some of the tension there.

Let them (well maybe that includes me) whine for now, for it releases our frustrations. Ultimately it is just a phone, and there can be better opportunities for it, but LG really is at fault here.

  161. its not about the phone anymore but how LG deceived its costumers… why cant people see the bigger picture.

  162. LOL
its an entry level Android phone. Buti kung HTC yan then I’d line up.

At 7500-8000. Im guessing inside job? cause someone already advertised it before the sale.

  163. LG sucks big time. They deserve a BOYCOTT for not handling this event well. Muntik pa mgka stampede sa sm north.

  164. hindi ako pumunta personally, pero upond reading the comments mali talaga pag handle ng LG. they should have made sure that 30 seconds per transaction lang and like 5 counters, etc etc. poor event management. pinaasa pa nila yung mga tao.

  165. KOREAN COMPANY LG FOOLED BUYERS! WE DEMAND APOLOGIES! BOYCOTT LG!

I swear never to buy any LG product again! Why? Because they are the most sadistic and moronic bunch of people!

I’ve seen larger number of crowd during sales events. But this one tops it all in terms of heartlessness and stupidity. They could have given out number tags to the people who lined up when the store opened at 10am. But of course they didn’t, they want those hundreds of people to continue standing there, tired and hungry. I could not verify this, but I overheard some people saying that LG wants the big crowd to make it appear that their promotion was a success. Biggest bullshit I’ve heard. Because of this, I would tell to all my Facebook, Twitter friends and relatives to boycott LG products. Yeah, it was a success. In terms of letting people know how power-hungry, incompetent, moronic LG is, and forever erase any goodwill LG brand has with me (and a thousand more who also waited).

The sale ran for an hour, and you’d wonder why only 20 people managed to buy? Because, even if the buyers don’t want to, the sales assistants have to demonstrate the cellphone’s capabilities, like charging. Really, charging? People went there because they are well-aware of what they are buying. And basic features that are common to any cellphone could have been skipped. Or at least LG could have done the demo 4 hours earlier when people where just standing outside! Now if that is not insincerity on LG’s part to sell, then I don’t know what that is. We were fooled!

Even though organizers kept reminding us that sale would happen from 2-3pm, they also mentioned that “madami sa inyo ang mabibigyan ngayon”, we didn’t ask, they volunteered that information. Naturally, I hoped that being relatively near the start of queue, I could bring home a cellphone. No matter how we Filipinos love discounts, we are educated, rules-following citizens. You raised our expectations high, didn’t properly instill cutoffs despites earlier pleadings, meliciously set us up for this, and sucked our energy dry today till we are devoid of civility. And for this, I felt personally deeply violated.

In retrospect, LG’s actual plan obviously was to sell only a few units of Optimus that day. Hence, they made the buying process more tedious than usual. When the clock strikes past the designated sale hour, they hoped that people would still be interested in their product and purchase other models. Nice plan, except that you made it in our dignity’s expense!

Now, LG, spare me the excuse that you don’t expect the turnout to be this big. Advertisements in major daily, radio shows and public transportation newspapers, and probably others I’m not aware of yet? Come on! Any corporate newbie knows that marketing plans are submitted, revised, reworked before any approval. So it was in their well-planned execution that only about 20 units would be sold. They rolled out all the ads and we Filipinos took the bait! We were lured into this sadistic chaos. It’s only right that a decent apology from LG should be given! We deserve better companies, with heart.

  166. Guys, relax lang. For those who were not able to purchase the phone, don’t be bitter. You knew that lines are gonna be long, and not everybody can be accommodated. But it was your choice to line up and take the risk. Pero sugal talaga yang mga ganyang event. I think the reason why phones are opened and activated, is to avoid scalpers who will sell them as brand new. And you did not really risk anything except your time.

It’s just a cellphone. It’s not a matter of life and death to have an LG Optimus. People went there not because they NEED it but because they WANT it. You can’t compare this to NFA Rice because food is a necessity and this is a luxury item.

And if you really need the phone, you can still buy it at a market price of 12,990, which I think is a fairly reasonable price. And for 7K, you can already buy a good cellphone with Wi-Fi. (Nokia C3, Samsung Corby Wi-Fi)

No need to boycott LG who’s just promoting their product.

  167. I really thought I would buy the Optimus One for the original price in case I didn’t get one on this sale, but after seeing what happened in the sale, I changed my mind. I am pissed with how LG has handled this situation.

Unlike Nokia, LG didn’t go straight to the point with the people who waited in line. Instead, LG decided to constantly “fix” and “organize” the lines in the picture posted above as if they still had plans of selling the product to them. The fact is, though, that none of those in the picture above got the phone. The only people who got the phone were the ones right in front the LG store, which was probably composed of less than 30 people (not in the picture above). That being said, the issue is far more than LG just being disorganized or unprepared. It is about LG being completely dishonest with the people. They KNEW they would only have ONE cashier. They KNEW they would DEMO the phone to the buyers (As a matter of fact, they purposely did it to stall people). HENCE, they KNEW that ONLY A HANDFUL of the Optimus One units could be sold. LG deliberately took advantage of the people. Amidst the fact that they KNEW they can only sell to a HANDFUL, they DID NOT cut the lines short like Nokia did. Cheers to Nokia for not being the attention whore LG was (although their promo was obviously an attempt to steal some of LG’s thunder too). Shame on LG for deliberately fooling those in line (by rearranging them and making them sign “contact sheets” as if it was going to change anything).

I must admit LG’s Optimus One is truly a competitively priced product, but it is against my conscience to even think of contributing to the company that was behind this fiasco. I choose not to support a company that deliberately fools its customers. This is an issue that goes far beyond just not being able to give everyone phones (of course that won’t happen because of the multitudes of people who went to the event). This is an issue of honesty and credibility. Hence, even if the LG Optimus One might be a good deal even at it’s full price, I have decided not to buy it. Making money off your customers is just business, but making a fool out of your potential customers is shameless.

  168. after reading the comments here, the iphone4 release does not look as bad.

  169. @raymond you would never understand coz u wr not there in the first place…

  170. That goes to show how shallow tayong mga pilipino. Sale lang yan. If you didn’t get one well too bad. Pero chill..

  171. LG’s marketing department = EPIC FAIL!

  172. nuff said.

HAHAHAHA!!!!

    good guys finished last….

  174. one girl LG staff there said they have unlimited stocks, then how come they only able to sold around 40 units. i hope they will apply a better system next time.

  175. In fairness to Nokia, their promo went better than LG

LG..is this what you call Life is Good? wow.. labo nyo!

    LG= Lahat Ginago!

  176. I really thought I would still buy the Optimus One for the original price just in case I didn’t get one on this sale, but after seeing what happened in the sale, I changed my mind. I am pissed with how LG has handled this situation.

  177. @taz

I understand the frustration. So near yet so far… But come to think of it, you did not shell out money for LG. Relax lang tol. Large crowds are a reality especially with that price drop.

LG already lost I think 1.5M for such an event. Di na siguro nila trabahong mag-ayos ng pila kasi they’re already losing money.

  178. was also there and i must say, mukhang disorganized ang LG well, at least sa nokia eh kahit may onting tension, talagang di na nila pinaasa yung ibang tao

lesson learned from this event: if you want to boycott LG, go ahead, i know how it feels. If you don’t want to buy their products, it’s your choice.

Antay nalnag sa iba pang sales after…. i’m sure meron pa yan :)

  179. @raymond: what the hell. r u the alien in this earth? can’t u see. u seem so so different, alienated and doomed. you’re a failure men. such an arrogant bastard just like LG or LuGi. let me guess, r u the new LG FAN BOY? or an idiot running around and crying “wolf” when nobody else likes to believe. again i say, SHUDDAP MEN. *victorious laugh*

  180. Guys, wag nyong sisihin mismo ang LG.
Sisihin nyo ang marketing dept. ng LG!

  181. I’m one of the few who got the unit, all I can say is “patience is a virtue” talaga. It was a horrible experience and I wouldn’t do anything like that again! Nakakaawa ang mga tao, good thing I was 17th in line kaya nakaabot pa ako.

As for the unit, first impressions, very responsive, though it feels a lil’ heavy (comparing to my Nokia 5800), panalo talaga ang Froyo 2.2.

I feel pity for those na hindi nakakuha kanina (sana tamaan ng karma ang mga may pasimuno nito). :-(

    (I’m from Davao btw)

  182. I was so disappointed talaga na hindi ako nakabili ng optimus one pero meron after sale ang LG. Disappointed man ako na hindi makakuha ng optimus one nakakuha naman ako ng LG Renoir original price na 21,000 slashed down to 9,900 8MP pa camera… android lang ng habol ng tao dun ako discount na malaki so kht papaano worth it parin pila ko… :)

  183. @raymond, i guess you weren’t there at the event hence there’s no way you’d understand.

i went to SM today prepared to come home empty-handed. but any marketing promotion has a target, given the mechanics, rules they will implement in-house, etc (that we as customers don’t know until the start of sale). the system they imposed could not have accommodated more than 50 max in one hour.

yet, LG let a thousand people waiting, standing, pushing and shoving in queue for at least 5 hours, resulting in a lady collapsing and few got hurt?

surely, there must be a better way to promote products, don’t you think?

  184. I passed by the cyberzone at SM Cebu at about 2:30pm kanina to peek at the LG and nokia sales. There was a line surrounding the LG booth, but it wasn’t that bad and didn’t even extend beyond that area. Nothing unruly, and everything looked calm. I didn’t bother lining up though since I already read that they were only going to sell about 50 units. No idea how many people actually got a unit though.

Sa nokia naman, there was no line but there were a handful of people inside the nokia store so I went in and asked about the sale. The salesgirl apologized to me and said they were only selling 30 units first-come first-served, and the list was already full. So the Nokia shop did a better job by not keeping people waiting for no reason. The handful in the store were just the ones who made it onto the list of 30.

  185. @aaron: i agree. HTC is far way better than this cheap shit.
@whatif: hey you man. SHUDDAP if nakikisali ka lang ok? u don’t have the right. so SHUDDAP and don’t be such a JOINER. OUTCAST.

  186. to LG people, next time wag na kayo mag aksyaya ng time ng mga tao kung palpak lang ang promo nyo….

  187. @raymond whatever? in the first place wala naman sinabi na mag subsidize sila ng phone in expense of the time and effort of the people. I am there and tlagang chaotic. Dont speak like a know-all dumb ass…

  189. @Larry Miranda: why not huh? you can’t force these people not to express how they feel. If you were there in the event, I bet you’d be the first one to post your negative comment about the said agenda.

  190. Oo nga mga tao wag kayo mag comment na prang naranasan nyo ung traumatic experience! Alam nyo ba na muntik an magka stampede???? LG put people lives at stake! You guys will never understand…

GAGO KAYO LG. 20 PHONES LANG PALA IBEBENTA NYO FOR 50% OFF, NAG ADVERTISE PA KAYO SA MRT, YUGATECH AT RADYO? GAGO PALA KAYO EH. Life is NEVER GOOD with LG.

Next time, there will be no next time. I wont buy any LG product for the rest of mylife.

  193. wala namang issue sa 1 hour sale nila kaya lang sana nung nagbigay sa LG ng stub, sana sinabihan ung mga nde nabigyan ng stub na umuwi na kasi malabo na silang makakuha ng phone. sa bagal ba naman ng bentahan nila, malamang 20-30 lang talaga ang makakakuha ng phone.ang dami kasi naghintay hanggang 3pm (to think na as early as 7am andun na) tapos ung mga LG sales assistant iba iba pa ung mga sinasabi, keso i-extend daw ung sale perios at 1000 units daw ung available sa sale. sobrang disorganized talaga at walang pakialam ang LG sa mga prospect customers nila kaya they deser a “boo” from the crowd

TANG-INA SPAM NA KUNG SPAM!!! MALAMAN LANG NG LG NA HINDI AKO MASAYA SA GINAWA NILANG PANG-UUTO! 6:30am ANDUN NA AKO TAPOS BIGLA NALANG AKONG NAWALA SA PILA KASI BINAGO NG PUTANG-INANG LG NA YAN ANG PILA. HINDI NA AKO BIBILI NG KAHIT ANONG GAWA NG LG. MARK MY WORD.

  195. I was there around 3-4 PM. From what i gather, Nokia also had some problems of their own. And, yes, some people went home disappointed and angry at the store. Particularly those who were inside before 1 PM. The customers in the tail end also had to endure lining up until 6PM because of a long delay in the releasing of units to be sold.

But here’s the thing, Nokia increased their stock allocation from 50 to something around 113 units for the sale. I also saw some representatives talking to some clients and listening to their complaints and frustrations. And since there was a delay, they also adjusted the sale time period and extended it to accommodate the people they already gave numbers to.

So at least they tried to make amends. They even absorbed more losses by selling more units than what they initially committed to and advertised.

  196. Disclosure: I’m an authorized Nokia dealer. But i saw what i saw and i know what i know. I give it a 7/10 event.

  197. Just to give everyone a different qualitative perspective:

-Supposedly savings to consumers: about 80 units sold in all 4 LG concept stores * 6500 discount= P520,000
*50% of retail price is probably very near their factory cost

With that amount of “consumer savings”, LG has absolutely spent more in advertising fees in major newspapers, radio shows and other media. and more on additional staff expenses, bouncers, security, and (gasps!) sound system!

-What we as consumers spent: 4000 people X 200 pesos (for lunch, transportation fee/gasoline & parking fee) = P800,000

-Effort put in by 4,000 people to go to their stores yet were made to stand for a good 6 hours and few had ulcers acted up because of long wait= NO AMOUNT THAT LG CAN AFFORD

-Opportunity cost for 4,000 people who could have spent their day/ half of their day on other more productive things had they been informed properly by LG= NO AMOUNT THAT LG CAN AFFORD

    -Losing LG brand’s integrity- PRICELESS

now, LG, you think this is a solid marketing promotion? what you were thinking?!

  198. @ihateLg – i totally agree with the logic. LG CANNOT PAY THE DAMAGE THAT HAS BEEN DONE..

  199. i would like to share this post from tipidpc.com which i completely agree.
    ShuLianLu said:
“I can understand why LG would provide a free demo of the unit but if the customer themselves would like to skip being given the “privilege” I believe they should respect that but they didn’t. They can call it providing excellent customer service all they want but I dare call it customer service laced with malice. After this who would believe they did not do it to purposely consume time and slow the process so they could release the least amount of units in an hour? What they should have done is to make it known to the consumers their company policy on returns and warranties not insist that demos cannot be skipped as it is a required step in the process of buying an Android phone.”

LG put people’s lives at risk? nobody forced you to fall in line. and the mechanics was, sale for 1 hour. Malinaw. Parang basketball lang yan. Pushing and shoving, it’s all part of the game. Be a good sport…

  201. say what you want to say raymond. You know NOTHING abotu what happened.

  202. I was able to get an LG Optimus One, however I do agree that the event was gravely disorganized. A number of people were able to cut into the line and even after I pointed this out to the bouncers and the LG personnel, they just said that they can’t do anything about it. To counter my objections they said that not to worry since I have a stub and was assured of a unit. But the point was it was unfair to the five or so people waiting in line that should have been there instead of those people. I discovered later that one of those people had connections with the security.

It was unfair for LG to give false hope to a lot people. They should have limited it to a 100 people or so with the advisory that not all may be able to get a unit. As it was, they let thousands line up even if it was impossible to accomodate everyone given the 1 hour limit.

As for the people there who kept complaining about the one hour limit, it was clearly stated on the fliers with the other mechanics of the sale.

I used my Fitness First pass to get in the mall a little earlier. Some people think this to be unfair but I would like to think of it as using an advantage.

To those people who are very angry and felt cheated by LG, I understand how you feel, however I don’t think you should hate LG for an incredible promo as evidenced by the turn-out. We can curse them for being disorganized and giving some false reassurances but most of these failings can be attributed to inadequencies of the staff.

I would have not hated LG even if I did not get the Optimus One at half price. A little disappointed, yes, but I would have gotten one at 30% off. I’d still consider it a steal. I really like this phone.

We need LG to fuel competition. Remember that they were the first to release a cheap touch screen phone in the Philippines with the Cookie.

  203. I agree sa lahat ng mga nagcocomplain. Sobrang walang kwenta talaga ung LG kanina waste of time lang.. no more next time for LG.. we waited 8am parking tapos pag bukas pa lang doors may about 60 people na nakapila. tpus about 20-30 lang nabigyan nila sobrang la kwenta grabe pa dinedelay ung processing sa purchase halatang sinasadya ung kabagalan.. SOBRA.. pnkamasakit pa everytime na tinatanong namin kung ilan ibebenta nila or kung aabot pa ba lagi sagot hope for the best and upto 3pm e sa bagal ng galaw nla tlgang 20-30 lng makakabili. BS sobra! paasa sa mga tao…

  204. @ihateLG:

your post is so win. :))

So many…”strong feelings” around here. Buti talaga hindi ako nagpunta. Sana, aside from all these frustrations, eh wala namang nanakawan, na-injure, or something else. Wasted time is injury enough, no?

I wonder if this “incident” will make the front page news, or at least the main section of broadsheets… hehehe.

  205. @RAYMOND Did we beg LG to have a sale like this? WFT, of course NOT!!! Its their initiative so normally people will go and buy!

its not a question here of whether or not LG has the obligation to do this kind of promo/sale right and organized…

the question here is did they do it right???
    OBVIOUSLY NOT!!!

  206. first of, thanks kay sir yuga for posting about this event. it was on your blog that i knew of this event even before they had ads or posters in print.

being one of the hard working filipinos out there, we surely would want this too good of a deal. others would want to make profit out of it, but for me personally i would like to try out android.

so i was one of those who went and took a chance at it, and got up early and went to SM North. There are already many comments stories detailing what happened there afterwards. so i won’t really say that here.

maybe i could focus more on what failed and what should have been.

    1. LG failed to inform SM management about this. The security guards who would be in charge were shock from 10AM. The sale was for 2PM and they did not know what to do from opening the doors of the mall. And they thought it was just an ordinary weekend. And for sure there would be running.

    2. OK so you fall in line. Me I was estimating probably 70-80 people in front of me. I know it was maybe far off. but you’ll tell yourself let see what happens. Then came epic fail #2 LG salesperson announce that numbered stub would be given at 2PM. That’s just plain stupid. If you are getting problems now with crowd control, you should have given numbers away at this time, say maybe 100 or something. If you would have done that you could have save the 101st person upto maybe the 1000th person the waste of a day that you would have.

    3. Oh after that LG rep would give hourly update of all the crap, that you already know. Plus the one I like the most, “we are not violating any of the promos mechanics”. In print, based on the ads, you probably are not. But LG also epic failed in telling people, hey you’re on number say 30, you probably don’t have a chance at getting that phone at 50% i suggest you go home, or if you really want it just buy it at 100%.

Personally, i would probably estimate around 50-60 an hour sold cellphones in that hour. If it was without demos and checking. Heck even sir yuga suggested this.

But even before this event I think LG decided ok with sell only 30 of these cellphones at half the price.
guess what LG, if you planned to sell only 30 of it you should have told those hundreds of people in line about it and put that thing on your ad.

I think it was a lie not to put that on the ad. instead putting the one hour time frame that people would get to hope just maybe people with decency would spend just 30 seconds to get a unit, but LG did not intend that to happened in the first place so they purposely let around at least 3 minutes per customer. Thus you are approximately left with only 20 people buying the unit at “lugi” price.

Personally, I may or may not boycott LG, but certainly because of this event I am not buying your damn phone. Even if you intend to do a 30% sale later on. You just pissed hundreds of your potential customers. And to say you have good products, my mom owns an LG LCD TV.

But you deceived your customers like this. I am sorry, you will get what you deserved. I earnestly believe if you said you were only selling first 20 or 30 units only. You wouldn’t have the problem of crowd control. Peope would already know whether they can have it or not and if we don’t it’s OK. It’s not like we have a choice.

To those who got your LG Optimus One P500 at 50% off congratulations to you, i hope you got it buy running and really really waking up early. To those who many others who didn’t it’s ok, as they said you did not lost anything you still have your 7k with you. It would still be a merry Christmas, just maybe Samsung would give a sale and do a better job and then and there LG would sucked up big time.

Oh LG just a reminder. If you think you can bully the buying market into something like this you can’t. In the end, we are (ooops were) your customers.

Ok, enough hating, I am looking forward to our Pambansang Kamao beat up another Mexican.

    Merry Christmas everyone.

  207. guys, obviously raymond is an internet troll, just seeking comments and attention. after the long day we just spent being fooled by LG, we don’t need to waste energy on another useless thing. let’s just ignore him.

that having been said, LG has no respect for their customers. a company like that should definitely be boycotted. instead of being thankful for the astounding reception and participation of people in their promo sale, they disrespected us, and wasted our time and effort. a company who treats their customers like shit does not deserve to be around. let’s all boycott until LG philippines is forced to close.

the worst thing, in my opinion, is that they BLATANTLY REFUSED to cut the line despite everyone insisting that they do, and the fact that they even said that they “might extend the one hour” and that they had a “huge number of units.” disgusting publicity.

  208. “I used my Fitness First pass to get in the mall a little earlier. Some people think this to be unfair but I would like to think of it as using an advantage.”

If you’re a Fitness First member, I’m pretty sure you’re one of the few people who can afford this phone at full price [or even a better, more expensive one], as opposed to probably 95% of the people who lined up who were only going to buy the Optimus One because they can only afford it at this 50% discounted price point. IMO it’s no different from having connections with the security guards or the sales staff. That’s “using an advantage” too, I would say.

Just sayin’. Opinion lang po. Peace. :D

  209. @laben8 very well said there dude…

one thing i will forget about this, I instantly made friends and enemies…

  210. i mean i will not forget hehehehe

  211. As a sidenote, siguro sobrang walang tao sa Trinoma, at least this morning and afternoon. Hehehe. Way to go, SM! :))

Guys wag mag-alala, for sure this Christmas season may mga susunod pang promo, although definitely not as good as this one… Hopefully future promos such as this one can be more strictly regulated para ‘di na maulit. (Hello, DTI! *wave*]

  212. @mcast it’s a case to case basis, we can’t generalize since there are many people there, no one knows why they want to buy the phone. Bottomline, LG SUCKS BIG TIME. period.

  213. Disaster talaga ang ganitong sale. Pasalamat na lang ako at wala akong ready na 6k to buy the phone.

  214. LG’s organizers sucks real time!

  215. Hahah… you mean with all those people in line only 30 people where able to buy an LG phones..!? Heads will surely roll!!!

  216. @All
Ayon sa mga nakakita she was there before the store opening and made it to the line.

Kaya ang masasabi ko sa LG, your event is such an epic fail because it has caused fatality!

  217. @qwertylover56
yeah heard that story too. first,i thought it was a rumor but when i heard that this is really true i was so frightened. this even more brutal than the MAGUINDANAO MASSACRE. one innocent life is lost because of a phone. how sad.

  218. LG Philippines is so inhuman. They don’t care about the dangers that their event will cause. And there it is, just like qwertylover56 said, one innocent life is lost!

FUCK YOU LG PHILIPPINES FOR YOUR INHUMAN BEHAVIOR!

Anyway, LG products are not as good as their competitors. Nasa last rank pa rin sila in terms of quality and how they deal to their customers.

Life is Bad. Hehe..

  220. @qwertylover56 & sodz_XP
well, that’s a bad PR for LG Philippines!
that’s what we call an epic fail:
lost life + lack of preparation + annoyed customers = LG & SM Epicness of an Epic Fail!

  221. Sir Yuga,

  222. @bleep: i agree with you. internet TROLL spotted :D

  225. LG, karma is digital…

  227. @juyjuy, I agree that people shouldn’t boycott the brand PERO if you’ve been reading everyone’s reactions, you’ll realize that LG did have a fault – it was asking people not to leave the line and telling them na may chance pa silang makakuha, even those at the very end of the line.

Nakapila ako sa Nokia SM North which is on the other end of the 4th floor (nasa kabilang side pa yung LG) and umabot sa pila ng Nokia yung haba nung LG!

I think that was their greatest fault during the sale. I don’t blame LG’s small window (1hr), single cashier and limited stocks, those were the sale’s limitations — but misleading people was really really evil AND there’s no excuse for that.

PS I’m not an LG hater. So Nokia ako pumila dahil napansin ko from yugatech na mas unti ang tao sa Nokia hehe. I’m planning to buy P500 during the 30% off sale.

Saying “wag kayong mag-alala, baka po i-extend namin yung 1hr window, etc” will not hold up as a promise in court kaya safe ang LG, pero kung usapang matino between Filipinos, it was tantamount to a promise of goodwill. A promise which the LG rep couldn’t deliver. Kaya naiintindihan ko yung mga na-badtrip dito.

  228. @All Disappointed people

  230. let’s ransack the lg concept store!

  231. LG’s 50% Off Sale turned out to be an advantage for me, surprisingly. I can now strike out LG phones (and all other products they sell) from the list of choices I have. :)

LG Philippines, too bad that the strategy misfired, tsk. Consumers aren’t dumb to not notice the kind of rubbish you created. You screwed up everything you’ve lived up to all these years for a crappy gimmick.

  232. 30 units sold in an hour? Get lost LG.

  233. Grabe may namatay na pala dito – Massive Fail talaga to!

    @All
Ayon sa mga nakakita she was there before the store opening and made it to the line.

Kaya ang masasabi ko sa LG, your event is such an epic fail because it has caused fatality!

  234. Totoo po ba may namatay dun sa LG sale? Any confirmation po? :(

  235. I think no matter how much they prepared for this, wala ring mangyayari. Kahit anong suggestion ibigay natin, gugulo pa rin yan, and you know why, kasi mga Pinoy yan! It started na may maayos na pila (sa SM north), and then nawala at una-unahan na, ayaw magpalamang yung iba. Walang disiplina ang mga Pinoy talaga. It’s not all LG’s and Nokia’s fault. Marami talagang gagong Pinoy. Di na tayo dapat magtaka at magalit. That’s the Pinoy nature.

The best way they probably could’ve handled this is by having a virtual line sa internet. Have a registration system on their respective websites, bibigyan ka ng number and a stub to print out, tapos yun ang ipepresent mo sa sale.

  236. LG = LIFE IS GONE

  237. @Benito
    Spell, CRAB MENTALITY.. ;)

  238. LG = LIFE IS GONE

  239. LG = LIFE IS GONE

    LG Rep.

  240. LG = Life Gone!!

  241. i think id still buy the phone but i really hate what their staff, employees and organizers did to us yesterday. pinaasa talaga ang mga tao. at hindi pa fair na hindi pa “officially” nagbubukas ang mall, may mga NAKAPILA na.

Well as you can imagine it, 1 day, 1 hour sale. nah….sure bet thousands of people will rush for that sale…

Eh mall sale nga lang dinudumog, what more 1 shop sale….

anyway, siguro naging bitter lang yung iba kasi they were not able to get the phone, worse, they had a worse experience ever…life’s like that…we can’t blame them.

    SUGGESTION:
To LG, if they will send out such sale, sana thousand units yun. If limited, sana ginawa na lang nilang random selection sa mga Globe-Smart-Sun users na they will have to register.

Well to other brands like Samsung (the brand I am using currently), sana wag nilang tularan yun ganun. hehehehe

  244. it was indeed a disaster… well, not bitter it’s more of pissed off kasi sa palakasan system na nangyari sa loob…

  245. @XXIX
Well, totoong may namatay. regarding sa info ng namatay hindi po pwedeng ilagay dito for privacy purposes.

  246. If you guys really want that phone, just wait for few months kung kaya nilang ibaba ng 6k +++ im sure ganyang din ang price niyan pag laos na tulad din ng LG cookie na 12k ang initial price na ngaun ay 5 k nalang and by that time iba na naman ang uso.

  247. @all

  248. A friend who went to geenhills last night said that dami daw ng lg optimus selling at 11500, d kaya dun dumiretcho mga nakabili and sold it for 10k?

  249. 1. LG Phil did not want to tell people that they have limited stocks for the sale because they want to make a publicity stunt at the expense of people flocking to their stores. They don’t want to cut the line (particularly in SM North EDSA) as this will end the hype that they want to create. They want to boast that many people desire them.
    2. I don’t think LG Phil saw the need to organize the line from the first place since they already know that they want to offer these prices for a limited number of stocks. As an example, why would one organize 4,000 people and know that you are only accommodating about 15 customers to avail the promo price?
    3. LG Phil weren’t honest enough to care for their potential consumers and their promotional gimmick backfired at them.

In all honesty, the Optimus One phone is a good unit even at the regular price but LG Phil destroyed the image of the company. To aggravate the situation, I personally experienced an LG staff arguing with a complaining customer right in front of many other people. They seriously lack training in customer service and relations. Although the LG store sales staff were very amateurish in handling the situation, I will put the blame on their management particularly the marketing manager who is the brain of this frenzie gimmick.

  250. next event: give-away ng NFA Rice!
    iPhone 4 giveaway (asa)
    pamigay ng relief goods
    free aguinaldo for everyone (weh?)
    free coffins for everyone (sure?)

  251. Lol. You guys got to be kidding me.

Sure, theoretically unlimited yung i-accommodate nila but that is as long as pasok siya dun sa time frame. Common sense lang, people. Common sense.

  252. @qwertylover56
I wasn’t asking po regarding the identity of the person.

  254. 10% KAMO? TRY -10%! GOOD LUCK!

South Korea’s LG seeks to be the Philippines’ top electronics brand

CEBU CITY – LG Electronics Philippines, Inc. is expanding its market reach and pursuing an aggressive marketing campaign to make LG the top consumer electronics brand in the country next year.

While other companies are holding back because of the global economic slowdown, LG Electronics Asia president Woody Nam said they were investing more in strengthening the brand and providing better support for customers in the regional areas.

“This is a difficult time. Sales and profits are down. But it’s an opportunity for us. We believe that if we invest now, while the competition is not investing, we will get the most benefits. We aim to be No. 1 in all products,” Mr. Nam said.

LG ranks third among consumer electronics brands in the Philippines.

Its LCD television captured 16 percent of the market as of last month, eight times more than the 2 percent share last year.

The target is to increase this further to a third of the market next year, Mr. Nam said.

In the mobile phone sector, LG holds 2 percent to 3 percent of the market.

As other brands retreat because of the global recession, LG Electronics Philippines president Lee Seung Chul said his firm would be more aggressive in penetrating the market to capture at least 10 percent next year.

  255. Punta dapat ako kahapon sa megamall for the sale. buti hindi ako nagising hehe, opted for the galaxy 5 instead, a bit pricey than those discounted units pero at least nakilatis ko nang maayos yung phone at hindi ako nahasel. “you get what you pay for” still holds true. mababa nga yung presyo, solidong hasel naman.

  256. well in my opinion it’s really the delaying tactics that made people flaming hot.
I personally was there (specifically Megamall) and you can actually see how long it takes for 1 unit to be sold.
come on LG you can do better than that

  257. and P.S.

seeing that the line is long, me and my friend went to window shop on different stores.

  258. I’m quite sure that all will be forgiven if they repeat the promo that will last for one whole day, unfortunately it’s all wishful thinking, others will disagree of course especially those who queued until late afternoon.

The said event purpose was to get market attention, which they did, unfortunately all they got in return was notoriety, someone died for a phone! IMAGINE THAT! No amount of PR can repair this.

I saw a girl (pale and all) being carried on a wheelchair by a security guard (I hope it’s not her who died).

  259. I really thought I would still buy the Optimus One for the original price just in case I didn’t get one on this sale, but after seeing what happened in the sale, I changed my mind. I am pissed with how LG has handled this situation.

Unlike Nokia though, LG didn’t go straight to the point with the people who waited in line. They KNEW they would DEMO the phone to the buyers (As a matter of fact, it was as if they purposely did it to stall people). HENCE, they KNEW that ONLY A HANDFUL of the Optimus One units could be sold. LG deliberately took advantage of the people. Amidst the fact that they KNEW they can only sell to a HANDFUL, they DID NOT cut the lines short like Nokia did. They loved the attention and kept the lines unnecessarily long. Cheers to Nokia for cutting their lines short and not being the attention whore LG was (although their promo was obviously an attempt to steal some of LG’s thunder too). Shame on LG for deliberately fooling those in line into thinking that they even had the slightest chance of availing the promo (by rearranging them and making them sign “contact sheets” as if it was going to change anything).

Kudos to Nokia for honoring their potential customers. Shame on LG for deliberately fooling them.

  260. @gian: obviously, you have not read all the comments. the reason people stayed on in line is because LF staff continuously said “we might extend the sale” and “we have a huge amount of units available for the sale.” they refused to cut the line. so the people lining up were, in fact, not desperate idiots with no commonsense, just people hoping to get a good deal for a smartphone from a company that kept them hanging with vague statements (just to keep the long lines around for publicity).

what pisses me off is how stupid so many people who weren’t there are. they keep saying things like “its just a phone,” “bitter,” etc etc but they’re all missing the point. this whole fiasco was an UNACCEPTABLE marketing stint by an obviously desperate company willing to disrespect their customers’ time and energy. we’re not bitter about not getting the phones, we’re ANGRY about being disrespected and about the way the whole event was handled. All we wanted was for them to cut the line or give out official statements about the way the event would be handled, but they refused to do it.

the problem with the filipinos is not that we are by nature, undisciplined, as some of you have said. the problem is that we let LG get away with things like this bec many of us simply see the small picture, or just let it go. it’s appalling. this is exactly what’s happening in government as well. LG has to be held accountable for what happened and i really hope we will give them what they deserve–ZERO SALES.

  261. can anyone know how to get in touch with Seung Chul Lee of LG Electronics Philippines in order to voice our concerns?

i thought i would wake up today feeling better from yesterday’s hallowing experience, but i’m more sure that this shouldn’t be dismissed easily. they screwed up big time. and wronged thousands of people.

yes, there are hate pages in facebook. but will it reach the management of LG? i think yesterday’s failure is more than what an irresponsible marketing officer could handle.

anyone who has a better idea?
does tv patrol still has that citizen patrol? i hope this nasty aftermath gets some media mileage so LG knows not to mess up with thousands of people again.

  262. LG for Android sucks anyways. HTC Android FTW! :D

  263. @GrayFox:

  264. @notbuyinglganymore agree with you! i really wonder if anybody who went through that incident can ever take to buy an LG phone/appliance again.

  265. kasalanan to ng OGILVY PR! PALPAK KYO !

  266. I wasnt at the event pero inis naman ako dun sa mga nauna sa pila before the mall even opened, tapos yun pala relatives sila taga sm or workers there. Pagkakaalam ko pag may sale ganyan, prohibited mall employees and immediate relatives, not to mention that they can get sacked from their jobs by using their access to let in other people to participate in such event. Also, dapat din may limit sa pagbenta ng units, as in one unit per person. Event organization fail talaga. May fault din yung malls diyan.

  267. The whole LG one-hour-sale is a plain joke, irresponsible, immature and direct insult to consumers!! I don’t know who’s to blame but certainly both LG management and DTI. I arrived around 11am at SM NE and found the line long. At first, I thought it wasn’t too bad until I left the queue for a while to check the start of the line. There I saw how unruly the line is without order and discipline. I asked the guard why is there no clean line, or single pile line when at the back, we were disciplined with single line. The guard informed me that there was commotion that disturbed the line and hence, the disorder. I tried to talked to LG store manager where there was a guy wearing white outside infront of the crown and instead talk to him. He claims proudly that he is the Retail Merchandizing Mgr for LG. I figure out that the crowd has more than 180 pax already and with your early math of 3 counters and 1 min/pa transaction as best case, it can only serve around 180pa. I asked the mgr to issue stubs aready at that early to inform the crowd who can’t be served anymore. I begged that he considers the plight of the consumers patiently waiting for maybe nothing at all since crown is worst already. Do you know what he answered? He told me that LG did not ask the crown to queue in line that long. It was the personal choice of the people. There I argued instantly since I sensed immaturity, irresponsibility and unbecoming of a manager in his response considering he claims to be the retail merchandizing manager of LG. I told him that LG has indirectly caused the people to queue and should take responsibility of the long queue and the unruly crown and disorder line at that early. He again claims that he can’t issue stub because that is not part of the mechanics. I asked him again if there is possibility to extend the one hour sale which he discounted as No. Hence, I told him the more they should disperse the crown now so people can just go home and not waste their time for nothing. See this guy who claims to be an LG mgr answering like that. I even told him about the math and why do they continue to distribute so many flyers in the crown when they know they can’t be served. This mgr left me bec he knows he’s illogical and irresponsible. Unfortunately, that guy went inside the LG store and just kept himself inside without any doing anything about the crowd. I would have expected that should he can’t make any decision that he calls his mgr and seek advise how to handle the whole thing. He did nothing. He maintained to non-chalant inside the LG concept store. You know, I went ba
