Numerous posts circulating today on social media regarding alleged emptying of GCash accounts due to the “update” that will be carried out in connection with the deadline of SIM Registration in the Philippines on April 26th are not true. This is according to GCash who also strongly stated that there is no need to panic and withdraw money from GCash because their accounts are safe.
GCash and Globe Telecom, the parent company of the e-wallet, are also encouraging the SIM registration of their subscribers. This is to combat the increasing number of cases of scams in the country. There are currently 79 Million Filipinos using GCash.
GCash also insists that it is important for their users to register their SIMs with their respective telco providers before the deadline so that their number will not deactivated and access to their e-wallet accounts are intact.
For Globe Telecom prepaid users, just visit the official Globe SIM registration website at https://new.globe.com.ph/simreg to register their number.
For postpaid users, you can also text the keyword “SIMREG” to 8080 to confirm that the information you submitted in connection with the initial application for the Globe postpaid plan is authentic.
To ensure a quick and seamless registration, also make sure that the necessary IDs are ready and that the information to be entered is correct and true. This includes your full name, date of birth, gender, address, type of government ID used as well as the ID number stated on it, and your photo. As for minor registered GCash Jr. users, their Globe SIM card must be registered using the name, information, and ID of their parent or legal guardian.
In case you want to transfer your GCash funds to your new number, it is also necessary to create a new GCash account connected to your new number and make sure it is fully verified. Also, make sure your new number is registered to ensure the fund transfer process and smooth access to your new GCash account.
GCash has ensured that the accounts and their contents are safe while the SIM registration process continues. Only telco providers are authorized to process SIM registration and GCash will never ask for your information through links, text messages, and emails.
