Smartphones to Watch Out For This 2020

In 2019, smartphones improved in a lot of aspects — we had better chipsets, more immersive display, impressive cameras, larger battery capacities, better designs, and so on. And while we’ve had a great year filled with excellent devices, we’re also looking forward to what 2020 will bring to the table. As 2019 came to a close, leaks and rumors about the upcoming smartphones have started appearing left and right. In this article, we’ve compiled device rumors from the top brands. Check them out!

Samsung Galaxy S11 series

Samsung’s next flagship lineup is reported to launch with three smartphones, namely the standard S11, the S11 Plus, and S11 Pro. The rumor mill also notes that all the devices in the lineup will have 5G capability and would have curved edge displays. Some renders of the S11 has also surfaced online, showing that the smartphone will have a square-shaped camera module reminiscent of the iPhone 11. Other rumors say that the S11 will have a screen with a 120Hz refresh rate, 108MP primary camera, a Snapdragon 865 chipset, a centered hole-punch front camera, and a 5,000mAh battery.

Samsung Galaxy Fold 2

2019 saw the release of Samsung’s first foldable smartphone, the Galaxy Fold, and it looks like the brand isn’t stopping yet with the foldable business. It’s reported that Samsung will launch the Galaxy Fold 2 alongside or even ahead of the S11 lineup. Live images of what seems to be the Galaxy Fold 2 appeared online, displaying the device’s clamshell form factor and it’s centered hole-punch selfie camera. It also seems like the Fold 2 is also being set up as the Motorola Razr 2019’s rival.

Samsung Galaxy Note 10 Lite

While Samsung has yet to confirm the existence of the Galaxy Note 10 Lite, specs and images of it have already leaked online. The new member of the Note 10 series will reportedly sport a square-shaped camera module on the rear, centered hole-punch front camera,  6.7-inch Super AMOLED display, with an FHD+ 2400 x 1080 pixel resolution, HDR support, and an under-display fingerprint sensor. The leak also claims that the Note 10 Lite will sport Exynos 9810, 6GB RAM, 128GB of storage, expandable up to 512GB via microSD. It’s also rumored that the Note 10 Lite will launch sometime in January for a price of EUR 609.

Xiaomi Mi 10

At the Qualcomm Snapdragon Tech Summit 2019, Xiaomi confirmed that the Xiaomi Mi 10 is set to launch in Q1 2020 and will have a Snapdragon 865 processor. The smartphone company has yet to confirm other details about the upcoming device. Still, rumors suggest it will be 5G-ready, could have a display with a high refresh rate, a battery capacity ranging from 4,500mAh to 4,800mAh, and could support 66W wired charging. Xiaomi co-founder Lin Bin also confirmed that a Xiaomi Mi 10 Pro would launch as well.

OnePlus 8 series

Specs and prices of the unconfirmed OnePlus 8 lineup leaked online. From the leaks, the OnePlus 8 lineup will consist of three devices, namely the standard OnePlus 8, 8 Pro, and an 8 Lite. The specs sheet of the OnePlus 8 includes a 6.44-inch OLED display with a 90Hz refresh rate, Snapdragon 865 chipset with 5G, up to 12GB RAM, up to 256GB storage, 32MP front camera, triple-rear cameras, and a 4,000mAh battery.

As for the 8 Pro, it’s said to have a 6.7-inch display with 120Hz refresh rate, SD865 chipset, up to 12GB RAM, up to 512GB storage, dual front cameras, triple rear cameras, and a 4,500mAh battery.

Last but not least, the OnePlus 8 is claimed to sport a 6.4-inch OLED display with a 90Hz refresh rate, MediaTek Dimensity 1000 chipset, 8GB RAM, up to 256GB storage, 48MP + 16MP + 12MP triple-rear cameras, and 4,000mAh battery with 30W fast charging support. Pricing-wise, the OnePlus 8 series is rumored to retail from a range of CNY 2,999 up to CNY 5,499.

OPPO Find X 2

During the Qualcomm Snapdragon Tech Summit, OPPO revealed that a new Find X flagship would launch in Q1 of 2020. It’ll come equipped with a Snapdragon 865 chipset, as well as a display with a high refresh rate. Reportedly, the new Find X will also have a Sony image sensor.

Huawei P40 series

Huawei’s next set of flagship smartphones, the P40 series, is set to have its traditional launch around March 2020. Like its previous generations, the lineup will consist of a vanilla P40 and the more premium P40 Pro. Renders of the upcoming devices leaked online, and from the images, it seems that the handsets will have a rectangle-shaped camera module on the rear. The P40 is shown to have a flat display, while the P40 Pro looks to have a curved edge display.

Realme X50 5G

Confirmed to launch on January 7, the Realme X50 5G is set to have a Snapdragon 765G chipset, a dual selfie camera, quadruple-rear cameras, a side-mounted fingerprint scanner, and VOOC 4.0 charging. According to reports, the X50 5G will also have a 6.6-inch display, 12GB RAM, 256GB storage, a 4,500mAh battery, and will ship out with ColorOS 7 based on Android 10.

    This is more of flagships, and most people are interested in buying midrange phones. You forgot Nokia 8.2 and 9.2, also xiaomi’s Pocophone F2.
