Globe Telecom is proud to report that data traffic through their network has increased substantially by 35% on year to 151 petabytes when June of 2016 ended. This is in comparison to a year earlier at 112 petabytes despite the continuing increase in customer demand for bandwidth due to the shift to smartphone use.
Ernest Cu, Globe President and CEO mentions that the company’s mobile data pricing is now one of the most competitive across Asia Pacific and because of this, he expects Globe to still be the preferred brand for Filipinos in terms of digital lifestyle. The company price their data service at Php48.74/GB which is one of the most affordable when compared to the top prepaid telco offerings in Brunei, Singapore, India, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, and Indonesia.
“This affirms our business strategy that continuing enhancement of the Filipino digital lifestyle will enable the company to keep its competitive edge in the data space, allowing us to sustain our growth momentum,” Cu said.
The company has a lot in the pipeline this year including a capital expenditure of $750 million that would mostly go to boosting data capacity for mobile and wireline using the combination of 3G, LTE, and Wi-Fi as well as expanding network reach. They also signed new partnerships with content companies like Netflix, Disney, Turner, Smule, and Sports Illustrated.
Basically, Globe Telecom is looking forward to further improving services for its subscribers this second half of the year.
