PLDT ensures connectivity throughout maintenance
PLDT has recently issued a statement that it will ensure connectivity for its subscribers during the emergency maintenance activities of AAG operators.
On Wednesday, the operator of the international trans-Pacific submarine cable system Asia-America Gateway (AAG), has informed PLDT that emergency maintenance activities will be conducted on AAG submarine cables in the waters of Hong Kong SAR from Saturday, 26 September 2020 9:00 AM to Wednesday, 30 September 2020 5:00 AM (Philippine Standard Time).
PLDT has assured PLDT and Smart customers of continued internet connectivity all throughout the maintenance as they have identified alternative cable systems to keep its connectivity resilient. They have also adopted measures such as traffic rerouting and local caching, to ensure that the most frequently downloaded content is located in the Philippines.
In a short FAQ posted on Thursday, PLDT said that the internet connection will be uninterrupted, that subscribers will still be able to do video and voice calls for work and online learning, and that the maintenance activity will have no effect to the subscriber’s internet connection.
The company further assures that PLDT and Smart “have enough capacity to serve the internet needs of the Philippines.”
