Best Smartphones of 2018 (PHP 5K-8K)

The year 2018 is officially over and we’ll definitely see more smartphone releases in 2019. But before all that hype on new phones, let’s take a look back and see all the devices that surfaced last year. For this list, we’ve compiled the smartphones ranging from PHP 5K-8K. Let’s start!

Note: The smartphones listed are those announced in 2018 and are officially available in the Philippines. Highlighted are the best devices from each brand but we’re also including their alternatives.

Vivo Y91i

The VIVO Y91i is one of the company’s last smartphone releases for 2018. It sports a 6.22-inch HD+ display, Snapdragon 439 processor, 2GB RAM, 16GB storage, and 4,030mAh battery. It is priced at PHP 7,999

Alternatives:

Vivo Y71 (2GB)  priced at PHP 6,999 and the Vivo Y81i priced at PHP 6,999.

Samsung J4+

Samsung isn’t that much known for their entry-level smartphones but the J4+ is something that you should check out. It comes with a 6-inch HD+ display, 2GB RAM, 13MP rear camera, 5MP front camera, NFC, and 3,300mAh battery. It is priced at PHP 6,990

OPPO A83 (2GB)

The OPPO A83 is one great budget smartphone capable of running low-to-moderate graphics games with its Helio P23 processor, Mali-G71 MP2 GPU, and 2GB RAM. It is priced at PHP 6,990.

Alternatives:

If the OPPO A83’s price is still heavy on your wallet or you just don’t prefer its design, then you can go with the OPPO A3s which is priced at PHP 6,990 or the OPPO A71 (2018) which is priced at PHP5,490.

Honor 7A (3GB)

The Honor 7A is one of the entry-level smartphones of the brand last 2018 which is priced at PHP 7,490. It features a 5.7-inch display, Snapdragon 430 processor, 2GB RAM, 13MP + 2MP dual rear cameras, 8MP front camera, and 3,000mAh battery.

Alternatives: 

You can also get the Honor 7A experience at a lower price with toned down specs. The Honor 7A (2GB) is priced at PHP 5,990 while the Honor 7S is priced at PHP 5,290.

Cherry Mobile Flare S7 Deluxe

Cherry Mobile is known for their quality entry-level smartphones and the Flare S7 Deluxe is one of them. For a price of PHP 5,999, you’ll get a 5.85-inch display, 3GB RAM, 16GB storage, 13MP + 2MP dual rear cameras, 13MP + 2MP dual front cameras, and USB Type-C.

ASUS ZenFone Max M1

ASUS tends to name their devices similarly to other models to a point where even I get confused identifying which one is which. The same goes with the ASUS ZenFone Max M1. It’s not the ZenFone Max Pro M1 but the ZenFone Max M1 which sports a 5.5-inch display, Snapdragon 430 processor, 3GB RAM, 32GB storage, and 4,000mAh battery. It is priced at PHP 7,995.

Huawei Y6 2018

The Huawei Y6 2018 is one of the best entry-level smartphones back in Q2 2018 due to its good viewing experience. For PHP 5,990, you’ll already have a 5.7-inch display, Snapdragon 425, 2GB RAM, 13MP rear camera, 5MP front camera, and 3,000mAh battery.

Realme C1

The Realme C1, is without a doubt, the entry-level smartphone that shookt the people with its more affordable price than the OPPO A3s. It comes with a 6.2-inch 19:9 HD+ display, Snapdragon 450 processor, 2GB RAM, 16B storage, and 4,230mAh battery. It is priced at PHP 5,990.

Nokia 3.1 (2GB)

The Nokia 3.1 is not your ordinary 2018 smartphone as it focuses more on its compactness and traveling convenience. It has a 5.2-inch display, MediaTek 6750 processor, 2GB RAM, 16GB storage, and 2,990mAh battery. It is priced at PHP 6,990.

Alternatives:

If you don’t like a small smartphone, then you can go with the Nokia 2.1 which is priced at PHP 5,990.

Xiaomi Redmi S2

The Xiaomi Redmi S2 is one of the best bang-for-your-buck smartphones in this list. It comes with a 5.99-inch HD+ display, Snapdragon 625 processor, 3GB RAM, 32GB storage, 12MP + 5MP dual rear cameras, 16MP front camera, and 3,080mAh battery. It is priced at PHP 7,890.

Alternatives:

If your budget is below the PHP 6K price range, then the  Xiaomi Redmi 5 priced at PHP 5,990 is the right one for you. You can also opt for the Xiaomi Redmi 6A (2GB + 32GB) at PHP 5,990 or its 2GB + 16GB variant at PHP 5,290.

    Though i would warn you about J4+, it ain’t worth the price. Samsung needs to work out with their entry-level smartphones.
