OnePlus 7 vs OnePlus 7 Pro: What’s Different?

OnePlus has announced three variants of its latest flagship smartphone line — the OnePlus 7 series. For the past few years, you’d typically get the vanilla device, a more powerful variant with a “T” in the end, and a McLaren design. However, this year, the company released a OnePlus 7 Pro and OnePlus 7 Pro 5G. Let’s take a look at the vanilla and Pro variant first and see how these devices differ from each other. Let’s start!

Here are their detailed specs:

So what’s different between them?

OnePlus 7 Pro

  • Larger screen size
  • 90Hz refresh rate
  • Higher screen resolution
  • HDR10+
  • 12GB RAM variant
  • UFS 3.0 storage
  • triple rear camera setup
  • Wider main rear camera aperture
  • Dual-band GPS
  • Larger battery capacity
  • Higher wattage for fast charging

One aspect that the company improved is the display of the OnePlus 7 Pro. It’s impressive to see that there’s another device that has a 90Hz refresh rate aside from the ROG Phone. With that said, it’s way better than the OnePlus 7 in terms of viewing and gaming experience thanks to its screen size and resolution. Let’s not forget that the former does not have any notches as compared with the latter, which makes a big difference for overall user experience.

Both devices have the latest Snapdragon 855 chipset, which makes them equally powerful and capable of doing almost anything. One difference, however, is that the OnePlus 7 Pro comes with a 12GB RAM variant which means that it’s more than capable of handling heavy tasks, but I do think that this is excessive already for a smartphone.

One notable feature of the OnePlus 7 Pro is its UFS 3.0 storage which is faster than the UFS 2.1 of the OnePlus 7.

We previously reported that the OnePlus 7 Pro got the third place in the overall DxOMark ranking and that’s because of its triple rear cameras. The OnePlus 7 only has the main and the 5MP lens, but, the former comes with the same 48MP lens along with a 16MP ultrawide and 8MP telephoto lenses. We haven’t personally checked its prowess yet but, I’m pretty much excited to get my hands on it and test its performance.

While the OnePlus 7’s front camera sits at the notch area, the OnePlus 7 Pro’s selfie shooter has the same pop-up mechanism as smartphones like the VIVO V15 Pro and OPPO F11 Pro.

Both phones have the same features such as USB 3.1 Type-C port, Stereo Speakers powered with Dolby Atmos, Gesture Control, and in-display fingerprint scanner.

In terms of battery, The OnePlus 7 Pro carries a larger battery capacity and a higher wattage of charging to provide faster charge time.

Here are the prices of each smartphone variant:

OnePlus 7:
• 6GB + 128GB: GBP 499 (~PHP 33,712.04)
• 8GB + 256GB: GBP 549 (~PHP 37,090.00)

OnePlus 7 Pro:
• 6GB + 128GB: GBP 649 (~PHP 43,845.92) / USD 669 (~PHP 35,027)
• 8GB + 256GB: GBP 699 (~PHP 47,223.88) / USD 699 (~PHP 36,705)
• 12GB + 256GB: GBP 799 (~PHP 53,979.80) / USD 749 (~PHP 39,216)

Overall, while the OnePlus 7 gives good flagship smartphone experience, the OnePlus 7 Pro takes it to a whole new level thanks to its 90Hz refresh rate, pop-up camera mechanism, and faster-charging speed. What do you guys think? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
