OPPO R7 Lite In The Flesh, First Impression

The OPPO R7 Lite is one of the two smartphones that OPPO Philippines launched yesterday. It packs a Gorilla Glass-laden 5-inch display and a mid-range specification to boot.

During the event, OPPO Philippines was keen to point out that the R7 Lite is crafted in the same mold as its bigger brother, the R7 Plus. Furthermore, the company used the same material, which they claim to be an “aircraft-grade magnesium aluminum alloy”, for its body.

So technically speaking, the R7 Lite is a miniaturized version of OPPO’s current flagship smartphone with a few subtle differences which we’ll discuss along the way. Having said that, we highly suggest that you check out our first impression of the OPPO R7 Plus to have a general idea of the R7 Lite’s design and build.

One of the first identifiable disparities between the two R7 Series smartphones is the placement of the rear camera, along with the other neighboring components.

On the bigger model, the snapper is smacked right in the middle with the dual-LED flash below it. Meanwhile, the rear camera of the R7 Lite was moved near the left corner and is paired up with a typical single-LED flash.

Another thing that’s lacking on the R7 Lite is the finger-print sensor which sits just above the company’s logo on the R7 Plus. Other than creating a distinction between the handsets, we think that the omission of this component allows OPPO to keep the price of the R7 Lite competitive.

Few mid-range smartphones can rival the OPPO R7 Lite in terms of design and make. Its thin unibody design, coupled with magnesium alloy frame is both easy on the eyes and a joy to hold.

Shelling out Php13,990 for a mid-range smartphone is a tough pill to swallow for some specs-oriented folks. However, for those who value premium design and are tired of the same run-off-the-mill plastic smartphone, the OPPO R7 Lite has all the right tools to justify its premium price tag.
