Summary of advantages

OPPO Reno5 5G:
• More powerful charging rate
• Bluetooth 5.1

Samsung Galaxy A52 5G:
• Higher screen refresh rate
• Bigger storage
• microSD card support
• Higher ultra-wide camera resolution
• Higher macro camera resolution
• Higher depth camera resolution
• NFC
• Stereo speakers
• Slightly larger battery
• Slightly more affordable

Based on the summary above, it’s a landslide win for the Galaxy A52 5G but let’s take a closer look at the differences.

Display

Both devices pack large 6-inch screens with the Galaxy A52 5G being slightly larger. However, the 0.07-inch difference can be neglected. The Reno5 5G’s 3 PPI advantage can also be overlooked.

Both can provide rich colors and deep blacks thanks to the OLED screen on the Reno5 5G and Super AMOLED on the Galaxy A52 5G. Both are also protected by Corning Gorilla Glass.

What will separate the two are refresh rates. While the Reno5 5G offers a smooth 90Hz, the Galaxy A52 5G has an even smoother 120Hz.

RAM and Storage

The Reno5 5G and Galaxy A52 5G offered in the Philippines are available in a single configuration. The former is available in 8GB + 128GB, while the latter is available in 8GB + 256GB with microSD card support. The Galaxy A52 5G is the clear winner here.

Camera

Both units have quad-rear cameras with a 64MP main and 32MP front. However, the Galaxy A52 5G has the advantage of having a higher resolution for ultra-wide, macro, and depth cameras. But these are just pixels, we’ll know which smartphone is better in imaging once we have them for review.

Chipset

The two devices are powered by premium mid-range chipsets from Qualcomm. The Reno5 5G is powered by the Snapdragon 765G with Adreno 620 GPU, while the Galaxy A52 5G has the Snapdragon 750G with Adreno 619 GPU. Both can deliver good performance and we don’t think you’ll notice the difference in day-to-day use. Their AnTuTu benchmark scores (from Kimovil) are close, with the Reno5 5G at 325,000 and the Galaxy A52 5G at 330,000.

Battery

Between the two, the 4,500mAh battery of the Galaxy A52 5G stands over the 4,300mAh of the Reno5 5G. But that’s if we are just talking about the capacity. However, if we factor in fast charging, the Reno 5 5G wins due to its SuperVOOC 2.0 65W fast charging compared to the 25W fast charging of the Galaxy A52 5G.

Other features

The two are almost on the same level when it comes to connectivity. However, the Reno 5 5G has Bluetooth 5.1 compared to the Galaxy A52 5G’s Bluetooth 5.0. Although the difference between the two Bluetooth versions is not that drastic, Bluetooth 5.1 offers faster connection initiation, lower power consumption, and better signal broadcasting.

Audio is another charm the Galaxy A52 5G over the Reno5 5G as it is equipped with stereo speakers powered by AKG and Dolby Atmos, while the Reno5 5G has a single loudspeaker.

Which one to get?

The OPPO Reno5 5G (8GB + 128GB) is priced at PHP 23,999, while the Samsung Galaxy A52 5G (8GB + 256GB) is at PHP 23,990. If your budget is PHP 24K and looking for something that packs the most specs for your money, better get the Galaxy A52 5G.
