Amazon unveils new Prime Air Drone

Amazon unveiled at the re:MARS Conference (Machine Learning, Automation, Robotics and Space) in Las Vegas, it’s new Prime Air Drone design for faster package delivery.

Amazon Prime Air is a service that will deliver packages of up to 5 pounds in 30 minutes or less using small drones. The newest drone design is capable of vertical takeoffs and can transition between two modes – from vertical-mode to airplane mode, and back to vertical mode. Basically, it can take-off and land like a helicopter and fly like a plane.

The drone is ontrolled with six degrees of freedom, as opposed to the standard four for more stability especially in gusty wind conditions, is equipped with sensors to automatically identify obstacles, and is powered by AI so it can navigate through those obstacles as well as react to unexpected flight environment changes.

No word yet on its exact availability but Amazon says it will be delivering packages to customers within months.
