Looks like Uber and Grab are here to stay as the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) junks all motions filed by a transport group that battles the operation of vehicles under the said apps.
In a report by Inquirer, the motions by 1-United Transport Koalisyon (1-Utak) have been dismissed by LTFRB for the lack of merit. 1-Utak pointed out that Transport Network Companies (TNCs) such as Uber and Grab, and their Transport Network Vehicle Services (TNVS) are infringing the equal protection of other public utility vehicles when it comes to franchising. Also, TNCs use of surge pricing is deemed unfair while traditional PUVs need to seek LTFRB accreditation before they could raise their fare.
Since the order of operation for TNCs and TNVs are not yet voided by higher courts and LTFRB has no jurisdiction to nullify such, Uber is standing firm about their operation in the country. While the Chairman of LTFRB has said that PUV operators and respective transport groups should be up to the challenge for better public transport.
I find Grab 100%: useless. I tried booking a taxi for an hour and a half the other day. Two drivers were displayed, but neither accepted. Typical lazy people. Always asking for extra.. No shame = 3rd world crap.
