Facebook to show more news from local sources

Facebook is entering a major change this 2018 as earlier this year we saw a few announcements on the updates that are to come. First, it was announced that the social media platform would now focus on showing more content from friends and family rather than publications and businesses.

Then just last week Facebook Founder and CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, announced that the platform would give powers to the community to flag trusted news sources. Today, we’re receiving another heads-up from Zuckerberg. This time, about local news.

In a Facebook post just hours ago, Zuckerberg, detailed the decision of why the social media platform’s News Feed will now feature more news from local sources. Starting today, posts from local news publishers from a users local city or town will pop up more often. Shared posts of local news and followed publishers would also see a bump up in the News Feed. The changes are currently rolling out in the US with other countries to follow.
