How to check if your Facebook data was leaked

A recent report revealed that 533 million Facebook accounts leaked online. Check out below how you can check if your Facebook data was leaked.

According to the National Privacy Commission (NPC), 879,699 Facebook accounts of Filipino netizens allegedly are compromised due to the large-scale breach affecting 533 million global users on the said social media platform.

To check if you are among the 899,699 compromised accounts, visit the Have I Been Pwned website. Have I Been Pwned is a website that allows you to search across multiple data breaches to see whether your email address or phone number has been compromised.

Once on the website, you will be asked to give either your phone number or email address. When given either email or phone number, it will indicate whether or not you have been pwned. If pwned, it will give a list of data breaches from websites you have registered in with either your email or phone number. And when scrolling down, you will be able to see what kind of data was compromised.

Furthermore, the Have I Been Pwned website suggests three steps to improve security.

1. Protect yourself using 1Password to generate and save strong passwords for each website.
2. Enable two-factor authentication and store the codes inside your 1Password account.
3. Subscribe to notification for any other breaches. Then just change that unique password.
