HP outs Sprocket 2-in-1 printer and camera

Hewlett-Packard (HP) released a rather interesting piece of tech today. Meet the Sprocket 2-in-1, a fusion between a smartphone photo printer and a camera.

The Sprocket 2-in-1 is about the size of your standard everyday smartphone coming in at about 5-inches wide and 3-inches tall. It prints out photos in 313 x 400 dpi resolutions. The device uses 2 x 3 inch (5 x 7.6cm) ZINK (Zero Ink) sheets for printing and can easily load a 10-sheet pack of them.

Now, the device doesn’t require ink cartridges to print out your photos because, as mentioned earlier, it uses ZINK’s patented paper which is composed of three dye crystals (Cyan, Yellow, and Magenta). The printer uses heat in order to colorize these crystals to form out your photos. Sadly, this is the only paper the device supports so supplies and availability may be limited.

To print photos remotely from your devices, you simply need to download the Sprocket app and connect to the printer through Bluetooth.
