Huawei bolsters AI portfolio with Ascend 910, 310 AI chips

Huawei has announced at their Huawei Connect conference in Shanghai, China, two new AI chips designed to be used in “all scenarios” including cloud computing and IoT devices – the Ascend 910 and Ascend 310.

The Huawei Ascend 910 and Ascend 310 chips are part of Huawei’s full-stack, all-scenario AI portfolio. “Full stack” refers to the functionality of Huawei’s technology, which includes chips, chip enablement, a training and inference framework, and application enablement. “All scenarios”, on the other hand is for different deployment scenarios for AI, including public clouds, private clouds, edge computing in all forms, industrial IoT devices, and consumer devices.

In other words, the Ascend chips will power the Huawei’s AI portfolio including an AI acceleration card, AI server, AI appliance, and many other products, to help businesses, governments, and organizations improve their services and operations using AI.

“Huawei’s AI strategy is to invest in basic research and talent development, build a full-stack, all-scenario AI portfolio, and foster an open global ecosystem,” said Huawei Rotating Chairman Eric Xu during his keynote.
