Opensignal: Filipinos more likely to switch mobile operators after poor network experience

Filipino users who leave their mobile network spent more time with no signal before they switched operators than the average for all users on their old network.

This was the main finding of independent insights and data company Opensignal, which is set to release a report this week that looks at the relationship between mobile network experience in the Philippines and users that switch their mobile operator – which they called “Leavers.”

Weak Signal

In particular, Opensignal highlighted that those who left DITO experienced 1.8x more time without signal than the average for all DITO users, compared to 1.6x more time without signal for Smart and Globe Leavers.

Opensignal also observed that DITO and Smart Leavers had 6.8% and 6.9% slower average download speeds, respectively, compared to all users on their original operator.

Globe Leavers’ speeds improved markedly in the 30 days after they left Globe, rising by an impressive 7.9 Mbps (52.4%). Smart Leavers’ speeds declined after switching — falling by 5.6Mbps (24.8%).

They also found that all Leaver users spent statistically less time with a 4G or 5G connection before they switched from their original operator than the all-user average.

Finally, only users who left DITO saw a statistically significant improvement in the proportion of time they spent with no signal in the 30 days after they changed their operator, with a drop from 2.2% to 1.1%.

The Opensignal report is slated for publishing this week so be sure to stay tuned as we share more of the report’s findings.

Dito is not a good service at all

It was perfect when it first came out download speed was superb and was very reliable but after about 6 months it dwindled

A speed test on Dito in my area will net me a 5Mbps that is very far from being 4G or even LTE speeds 5Mbps is low end 3G

Connection reliability is very low as well I am often forces to switch off data and turn it on again several times a day to get a connection to work and they often have downtime as they claim for maintenance and they do this without even any notification it just fines out of the blue

Talking about maintenance they was very bad after the typhoon Odette while every other network was restored very quickly it took Dito over 3 weeks i lost my data I lost over 9,000 minutes of accumulated other network calls and the assholes wouldn’t even put a freeze on the account until services was restored

I’m using smart again and speeds are much faster
