Senator Antonio Trillanes IV has filed Senate Resolution No. 259 that urges an inquiry on the proliferation of false or misleading news and information as well as social media trolls.
According to SR No. 259, it urges the Committee on Public Information and Mass Media, and other appropriate committees, to conduct an inquiry on the “massive proliferation of false, erroneous, distorted, fabricated and/or misleading news and information on social media trolls.”
Trillanes believes that the inquiry will help in coming up with a legislation that will “protect the public from manipulation” through the spread of “false, erroneous, distorted, fabricated and/or misleading news and information.”
In addition, it also aims to come up with a “viable system to hold the authors, distributors and/or purveyors of the same responsible and accountable under the law for the contents they generate and/or disseminate.”
Trillanes also mentioned that social media, instead of being a tool for empowerment, “has become a platform for political propaganda, deceit, and manipulation.”
He also described a social media troll as “someone who deliberately creates and/or foments discord and conflict on social media sites through the posting of controversial and inflammatory messages,” and has created “a culture of impunity online by using foul and uncensored language, and personal attacks like death threats and rape threats.”
According to the senator, social media trolling “is becoming a source of living where one allegedly earn up to $2,000 a month for creating fake accounts and using them to manipulate social media content and discourse.”
“There is an immediate and imperative need to investigate the proliferation of online social media trolls and the spread of false, erroneous, distorted, fabricated and/or misleading news and information on social media as it threatens not only the viability and credibility of online journalism but also violates every citizen’s right to truthful and accurate online news and information,” Trillanes said.

That’s good to hear but do us a favor. . . Apply the same law concept to the leading media networks cause they seem to be working for money and not for the truth! And lastly, if you’re doing this because you are threatened that the filipino people will be enlightened from you and your allies’ deception, sorry to say but we are already enlightened even without that pages! And for the record, the pages such as mocha uson blog, thinking pinoy, sass, panganiban, etc are all being managed by a identified person so there’s no way you can call them as troll! Why don.t you check superficial gazette, change scamming.etc. They are the troll pages that reports false news :-)
Superficial Gazette and Change Scamming are satire pages and never claimed themselves as news source unlike Mocha Uson Blog and co. that actually writes FAKE NEWS and share them on social media. They even use ‘sources’ like Pinoyaltertrendvista blah blah, okd2 etc, which are known to be notorious fake news sites. Mocha has been caught and debunked several times then afterwards, she deletes her post. What a shame.
Even though they are anonymous. Their posts always have substance and more importantly, VERACITY unlike ‘most’ of these pro-Duterte-Marcos pages that oftentimes just post fake news and pure hatred towards people who don’t agree with them or their lords.

Di ko alam kung maiinis o maaawa ba ko sa mga nagpapaniwala sa mga fake news na pinapakalat ng mga pro-Duts/pro-Marcos(or combination!) kong friends.
