YouTube introduces ‘Super Chat’ for livestreams

You can now help your favorite YouTube stars or creators and even make them noticed you with the famous online video platform’s new feature.

YouTube calls it Super Chat and introduces it as a tool for fans and creators to connect with one another during live streams. If you’ve been watching live streams on YouTube, you’d know how easily your compliment gets buried when a lot of fans are also tuning in.

Super Chat makes your comment stand out and be noticed by paying out. It remains pinned to the top of chat for up to 5 hours, more than enough to be noticed by senpai. Users just have to click the dollar sign in the web chat interface or app and pay to have their comment featured. The more you pay, the longer your chat stays on top. Part of that is going directly to the creators making Super Chat a tool to help out a favorite channel.

A few channels are already using the feature but it’ll have a wide launch on January 31 for creators in 20 countries and viewers in more than 40 countries. Super Chat will replace Fan Funding that started in 2014.
