MSI GT-780R monster gaming laptop

We’ve been using MSI’s newest monster gaming laptop, the MSI GT-780R, for the past 2 weeks and enjoying it a lot so far. Not only did they put everything they can think of inside the rig but also added some really sleek exterior features as well.

This 17-incher full HD notebook comes with the latest Intel Sandy Bridge processor, a whopping 16GB of DDR3 RAM, 1TB HDD, and a graphics processor with 1.5GB dedicated RAM.

There’s actually a variant where you can pair a 500GB SATA HDD with a 120GB Intel SSD (as boot drive) instead of a dual-500GB HDD on Raid 0.

MSI GT-780R
17.3″ full HD @ 1920×1080 resolution
Intel Core i7-2630 2.0GHz 6MB Cache
4 cores, 8 threads, Turbo Boost 2.9GHz
16GB DDR3 RAM
NVidia GeForce GTX 560M 1.5GB GDDR5 1.5GB dedicated VRAM (4GB total)
1TB SATA HDD (2x500GB) with Raid 0
Dynaudio Sound
THX TruStudio Pro Surround Sound
SteelSeries gaming keyboard (LED-backlit)
Blu-ray / DVD Super Multi
3 x USB 2.0 ports + 2 USB 3.0 ports
HDMI v1.4 port
eSATA port
SD(XC/HC)/MMC/MS(PRO)/xD card reader
GigaBit LAN
WiFi 802.11 b/g/n
Bluetooth v3.0 + HS
9-cell battery
Windows 7 Professional

The Core i7-2630 is actually the entry-level variant of Intel’s newest Core i7 Sandy Bridge CPU. Still not bad at 2.0GHz base clock speed that can Turbo Boost to 2.9GHz.

What’s more interesting is that MSI added a few more touches into the design of the laptop — like the keyboard by SteelSeries (the back-lit keyboard breathes blue, purple and red lights) and the THX TruStudio Pro.

The MSI GT-780R will retail for Php109,990 in stores. Not bad if you think a spec-ed out 17″ Macbook Pro costs Php136,900 (Core i7 2.2GHz, 8GB RAM, 750GB HDD) — but then again, the two aren’t really competing for the same category.

Full review by next week.

So far, MSI Gaming laptops ranks 1st when it comes to the Audio performance too. Trailing Alienware to a close 2nd and Asus G series a fair third place.

Check this machine games mongers: Sony Vaio VGN-SZ79GN_C…… this is the real MACHINE a dual graphics machine! NVIDIA for SPEED and INTEL for STAMINA. Yan ang tunay na pang GAMES mga bro. huwag basta-basta maniniwala sa Marketing Strategy. tingnan nyo muna sa net kung ano ang experience ng ibang mga users.

    biktima na ako nyan!

MSI Laptop is designed only for a short period of time, like 1 year. you just put your money in the trash.

I’ve got 3 MSI Machine it only last for a year. just waste my money.

Sony Vaio VGN-SZ79GN_C, what can you say Mr. YUGA? I think this is the real machine for games, not the one that you have been advertising. HA! HA! HA! HA! HA!

BY THE WAY, of course you can use it for heavy graphics games as they, but your machine will only last after warranty period finished.

As an avid 17″ user, I’d love to have this as an upgrade except for one caveat…I’d really prefer an Ati gpu. Nvidia lost me after the whole 8000m series fiasco and even now, I don’t feel safe with any of the gtxxx series.

    If MSI has a lower-end i5 or i3 version with an hd68xx or even a 66xx, I’m in.

its a great laptop, but could be too much for casual gamers. We still prefer bang for the buck laptop with midlevel graphics card gt540m.

Acer 4755g or the asus k43 with better cooling.

Been eyeing for this laptop since it first came out, the previous graphics it had then was a GTX460M. Glad MSI revamped to 560M without additional cost. kudos MSI. :D

At least it is affordable unlike Sony and Mac.

My Aunt has an MSI netbook for 3 years already and it’s fine. My 4 friends have HP notebooks and they video card problems.

my first laptop was MSI VR320x purchased 26 Nov 2006
despite being Celeron and full of cracks, it can still do its job on Windows 7
not bragging about it just saying that MSI won my trust hehe

Im writing from a 19 months old MSI Gx623 gaming laptop that overheats then shuts down and can only run roughly 2 hours at a time if it’s near an A/C and has a cooling pad.

MSI Service center said there is nothing wrong.

      Buy ASUS.
