Asus Eee PC: the 7-inch, flash-based laptop

Intel and Asus teamed up to deliver one of the smallest and cheapest mobile internet devices around – the Asus Eee PC. Here are the specs:

Asus Eee PC 701

EeePC 701 Specification:
Display:7 inches
CPU & Chipset: Intel Mobile CPU & chipset (probably Centrino 1 GHz and up)
Operating System: Linux os Microsoft Windows XP compatible
Communication: 10/100 Mbps Ethernet; 56K modem
Connectivity: WiFi 802.11b/g
Graphic: Intel UMA
Memory: 512MB, DDR2-400
Storage: 4GB, 8GB and 16GB Flash
Webcam: 300K pixel video camera
Audio: Hi-Definition Audio CODEC; Built-in stereo speaker; Built-in microphone
Battery Life: 3hrs (4 cells: 5200mAh, 2S2P)
Dimension & Weight: 22.5 x 16.5 x 2.1~3.5cm, 0.89kg

It won’t replace your current full-blown laptop now but you have something very light to carry around for all your surfing and blogging needs.

Although the battery life is just 3 hours, it still beats a lot of regular 2-hour laptops out there. A full keyboard, less than 1 KG in total weight, flash based so there are no moving parts in the storage for a bump-proof ride, and wifi connectivity tops it all. The best part is the price is as low as USD$199! How cheap is that, huh?

Nice one. Now I think I’ll buy two for the kids. They always wanted to have their own laptops and the size and portability and the wifi is just perfect. Will check the specs even more and wait for it to be sold here.

Very nice package. Has anyone knowledge of where or when this might be available in the Philippines?

I’m going to sen dmy son out looking in the US next week. This has several things going for it … the fact that is _not_ afull-blown laptop means a lot less risk when it gets lost or broken .. and three hours is more thna enough battery unless you spend all day on line surfing when ur supposed to be working.

I’m now in my second week of waiting for my $2000USD Toshiba to be repaired … if I have to turn it in to Toshiba it will take 60 “working” days … worse than a check clearing the bank … I think a $200 machine makes a lot more sense

Yeah, looks like it does have 2 USB ports based on the pics of the Eee 701 in the slideshow.

I guess it would be the most portable gear for the thrifty mobile blogger. How many USB ports does it have, Sir Yuga? (If it does have any—well, I hope it does)
