The octa-core chipset is built on the same 16nm FinFET process by TSMC just like with the model it followed, although this new variant has been put together using new components. There are four Cortex-A73 cores and four Cortex-A53 cores that together promise a 15% performance boost in processing. Meanwhile, the company claims that the A73 cores deliver sustained performance throughout as it implements better power saving techniques in comparison to the previous A72 cores.

It will also run on a Mali-G71 which is the new Bitfrost GPU by ARM. The update in specs will supposedly make it possible to reach up to 180% in performance jump thanks to its eight dedicated GPU cores (coming from previous four) and to have better power consumption by 20% if they are to compare it to the high-end chips they introduced before.

Additionally, the Kirin 960 has an updated ISP for better image quality and support for UFS 2.1, LPDDR4 RAM, LTE Cat. 12 and 13 modems, and CDMA for specific countries.

Correction, it’s Bifrost not Bitfrost. Promising SoC though. I wonder how’s its real world performance.
