Sun offers Unlimited Calls & Texts for Php25

You have to give it to Sun Cellular for shaking things up and making the “unlimited” offering very cheap and popular among the masses. I guess they’re partly to credit why the Philippines is still the texting capital of the world.

And they continue to challenge the competition and offer cheaper deals like this Call & Text 25 (CTU25):

Granted, the unlimited call and text are only applicable to Sun to Sun connections but their network now has over 12 million subscribers (from 1 to 2 million a few years back) so at least we know either more people are switching to Sun or making it their second line.

The CTU25 charges a one-time fee of Php25.00 to make unlimited calls and texts within the Sun Cellular network (just text CTU25 to 247). If you subscribe 3 days in a row, they’ll give you the 4th day free. So if you subscribe 23 days in a month, you get the whole month on CTU25. Total spend for 30 days is about Php562.50.

I’m not really on Sun prepaid but anybody out there using Sun can let us know how this works out.

    thanks,

Pwede ako magtagalog? Hehe para sa akin, SUN is a blessing. I’ve been using Sun for the past 2 years. Actually I’d be nearing my third year of using sun by March 21 (well, I know, that doesn’t concern you much haha). It’s a big help for stabilizing my communication with my wife. Less expenses, more savings. Kahit na pre-paid ako, mas matipid parin. Actually, I never tried other promos of Sun like the 150 Unlimited Text or something. I always use the CTU450 with a free regular load of 50. Noong nag-Ondoy, globe and smart signals are hard to come by, pero ang sun? Walang problema. Sun is a blessing. And it will always be.

Quoted from a post by Corsair:
“I think you’re giving way too much credit to Sun Cellular.

They are NOT the first to give unlimited call and text at P25. You should give credit to Red mobile. They offered their call-and-text unlimited service a few weeks before Sun did (Red – March 6, Sun – March 21), and it would be safe to say that the only reason Sun brought down their price is because of competitive pressure.”

Lol! Were you living in a cave for the past 6 years? Sun pioneered the intranetwork unlimited calls and texts! The point of Yuga is Sun shaked Smart and Globe so much that both giants were forced to offer something similar (yet seemingly overpriced as opposed to Sun’s offer). The reason why Sun deserves the credit because, if it weren’t because of Sun, Filipinos up to now will have to stick with the 1 peso per text and 6.50 – 7.50 per minute call rate and with that, Sun deserves all the credits, no doubt about that.

For your information (just in case my hunches are right that you were indeed living in a cave for the past 6 years), Sun has long offered the Call and Text Unlimited way long before the Red Mobile brand was even brought to life. If I am not mistaken, Sun has started offering the 24/7 Call and Text Unlimited service since 2004, and not just this March 21 which you stated.

2 thumbs up for sun.. now i barely load up my globe sim, though im a globe user too.. sun beats globe by a mile when it comes to promos. :) btw, i am a globe user since 1998, f anyone can remember.. globe users would fall in line and pay p170 to have the txt feature be activated for a month… sigh. once activated, you would send your message 3 times to make sure d recepient gets the message. haha enough about globe. hurray for sun!

does the blog say that sun cellular was the first to give CTU/day @ 25?

It says only that sun cellular offers CTU/day @ 25 pesos.

In terms of coverage panalo ang smart but in terms of subsribers’ density panalo ang sun.

Sun has aprox. 12million subsribers over aprox 5000 cell site, so they only have 2400user/site.
While Smart has 40million subscribers over their aprox 8000 cell site – 5000user/site.
Halos doble and dami ng tao na gumagmit ng smart sa isang site compare sa sun.
Less number of people/site means good quality of service.
So in terms of density panalo ang sun. Kaya masabi natin gumanda na ang service ng sun.

To say that “Red was not considered because of their limited service coverage and handset limitations” is slipshod and careless.

Red mobile is powered by Smart (in the same way that Talk ‘N Text is powered by Smart and TM is powered by Globe). To say that they have limited service coverage is saying that Smart has limited coverage compared to Sun (which we all know is not true, as Smart claims to have “nationwidest” coverage).

Red mobile used to run only on 3G capable handsets when it was introduced, but by June 2009 (almost one year already) they opened their network to 2G access. Thus there is no longer a handset limitation to speak of. All handsets, whether 2G or 3G, work with Red mobile.

I hope you understand where I am coming from and why setting this straight is important. As a frequent visitor of your blog, I would like to be assured that the posts/entries I read are fair and well-researched. Unless of course this is a paid post, in which case any bias toward Sun Cellular is completely understandable (but that fact should have been declared).

If it weren’t for Red mobile’s pricing, Sun would never have changed it’s own offer (why would it when it’s already running on very thin, if not negative, margins?).

So yeah, the opening paragraph is completely misrepresentative of market dynamics. Sun did NOT challenge the competition. Instead, it was the one who got challenged by Red.

-> I’m a true-blue Globe subscriber (2 postpaid accounts and 1 prepaid account), and I do not work for Red mobile. I just think a professional blogger’s post should be written with fairness and scrupulous attention to detail.
