I’ve been regularly using this Asus ML-series LED monitor since last week after the ill-fated Macbook Air accident. Before that, it served as one of dual-monitor set-up for my desktop at home.
Despite that squarish look of the display, it’s got an interesting stand design that utilizes two concentric rings that screw into the back of the panel.
The assembly might look a bit hard at first but it’s actually pretty easy to do.
The monitor is also relatively thin with the top edge lined with hundreds of honeycomb-shaped grill which is probably for ventilation. At the back are the usual ports – D-sub, VGA and HDMI.
The stand allows the display to adjust vertical angle but not the horizontal. It also comes with a power adapter that’s similar to what is sued in laptops.
The bezel is actually thin but the bottom section is thicker to allow for the placement of a touch panel for power and other controls.
Since the Asus ML 229H is manufactured with IPS-based LED display, you get good viewing angles (up to 178-degrees, which is almost at right angle already), very high contrast ratio (50,000,000:1) and decent response time of 5ms.
The screen has a matte finish to prevent glare so brightness is somewhat affected but you still get very good picture quality, sharp contrast and vivid colors. Add to that a full HD 1080p resolution (1920×1080 pixels).
This 23-inch model will retail for just under Php10k but if you want one, we’re giving away this unit for free. Just go check out the contest rules here.
Disclosure: Asus Philippines sponsored the giveaway of this ML-series 229H LED monitor.

My question would be, how is the response time (5ms)? I mean, is there ghosting noticeable when watching videos? How about playing games?

I dunno why, but this might the best bang-for-the-buck monitor, bezel notwithstanding. The fine price point Asus has for its monitors makes Samsung’s models appear downright expensive.

I prefer the enclosure design of the LG IPS236 which is a bit more expensive at P10,800. They may even share the same LCD panel manufactured by LG also.
