OpenSignal, a company specializing in wireless coverage mapping, released a report that focuses on Philippine Internet – particularly our LTE speed. They compared two of our telecoms (Globe and Smart) to show where they stand in terms of download speed, upload speed, and latency.

Lte Download And Upload Speed

Lte Download And Upload Speed

Based on the report, Globe’s download speed is a little bit faster than Smart’s at an average speed of 6.1Mbps against 5.9Mbps. In terms of uploading, Smart overtakes Globe by a mere .2Mbps at 7.2Mbps and 7Mbps, respectively. As for LTE latency or as OpenSignal says is “the time it takes for the server to acknowledge the request from the device,” Globe trumps Smart with 93.3ms against 185.4ms.

Lte Latency (Lower Is Better)

Latency Plays A Big Part In Streaming Video And Voip For Video Chatting And The Like. It Greatly Affects How We, Subscribers, Feel About The Speed Of Our Carrier As A Whole (Lower Is Better).

The report however recognizes Smart’s efforts in making significant improvements over the past 3 months in both download and upload speed.

Realme Philippines

Although this may be the case, we’re still lagging behind other countries in LTE and even in overall Internet speed (2.5Mbps against South Korea’s upcoming 10Gbps)  as we’ve previously reported.

parang baliktad naman ang experience ko. i both have smart and globe postpaid account but i cancelled my globe line coz the internet speed is not good. it’s not even half of the speed i get with smart. that’s based on my experience though. OFF topic: another thing i didn’t like about globe is that they overcharged me and it took them 6 months to fix it while i didn’t have any prob with smart so i will stick with smart for now.

Kalokohan to. Based on experience, walang kwenta ang Internet access service ng Globe. If you don’t believe me, do some research and count how many irate customers of Globe you will find sa net.

not sure how the tests were done and concluded to this report. But this is simply nowhere near this speedtest result,
http://www.speedtest.net/result/3855795395.png
done in one of the floors inside a high rise building within the ortigas center.

or maybe let’s just blame speedtest because it maybe broken or something f^c*d up happened to it…

I use opensignal. Seems to be more accurate than speedtest. What I don’t understand is the stopped of Globe. Before fup i can get 25mbps in QC (around 5 in malabon and prolly around 10 in binondo). Now? I’m lucky if I can even get 3mbps in QC.

@Starr I am not bashing without reading the actual facts. Yes they say that 1.5gb is allotment per day on Smart. However, there is an ongoing promo for LTE subcription. Ikaw ang magbasa tol hehehe http://www1.smart.com.ph/Bro/lte/plans-and-packages/prepaid walang cap yan until December 31, 2014.
