Why the TV still reigns despite the rise of smartphones

It’s the digital era and it’s safe to say that, more often than not, we find ourselves almost always under our smartphones. Such compact devices pretty much quench our thirst for entertainment such as listening to music, reading e-books, browsing the net for info, taking photos, as well as viewing/streaming contents to our heart’s desire.

But despite the prevalence of smartphones and other electronic devices, why do people still prefer to use the television as their primary medium in terms of watching contents?

VIEWING EXPERIENCE IS WAAAAAAY DIFFERENT

While it’s handy and convenient to use our smartphones to stream videos online, watching them on the TV is still by far one of the best experiences you can possibly have. A handful of known TV manufacturers are all doing their best to provide us, their consumers, the best viewing experience, and top-notch next-generation features on their TVs.

One great example of this would be LG’s new lineup of OLED models recommended by Netflix that are packed with Dolby Vision so you’d be able to watch your favorite shows in 4K and HDR, as well as having an immersive sound experience with Dolby Atmos. There are also quite a handful of awesomesauce TVs that were recommended by Netflix such as Samsung’s 2017 4K UHD and QLED TVs and Sony’s 2017 Android TVs.

JUST LIKE SMARTPHONES, THE TV HAS ALSO BECOME SMARTER

The Big-and-Bulky and Mono-Functional TV era is truly over. Smart TVs are the real deal now and a lot of them do what smartphones are capable of doing like connecting to the internet and running on an OS (operating system). According to GfK, Smart TVs lead as the most popular connected TV device with 48% of Netflix viewing hours in the Philippines and 61% across Asia Pacific since consumers are finding out that they have the power to choose what contents they want to watch and where they want to view them.

IT BRINGS PEOPLE CLOSER

I don’t know if John Baird planted a secret magnetic chip when he first invented the TV because if you’d notice, the TV brings people together. Whether it’s on a random day or a grand occasion, watching your favorite shows like Riverdale, Stranger Things, Narcos, and House of Cards is more enjoyable if you have someone to watch it with. Plus, fangirling/fanboying is much more fun if you have someone who geeks out over the same shows as you.

It’s also worth noting that, according to a survey research conducted by Zeno Research and Insights, 80% of parents admit they watch their teen’s favorite shows like ArrowPretty Little Liars, and Stranger Things to feel closer to them. 74% of teens said that they’d be interested in talking to their parents about the shows they watch seeing it as a strong way to bond.

IT’S HERE TO STAY

Well if you’re a lone-wolf and would prefer not to have any humans to interfere you, the TV is always there to keep you company and entertained. Even though it doesn’t create much buzz as smartphones do, it’s always there and it’s gotten even better to provide you the ultimate viewing experience because you deserve it.

Especially in the Philippines, the television “reigns” because people can’t afford to buy smartphones. Let’s not kid ourselves; it’s not because we’re tech-savvy and know better. The masses don’t care for viewing angles or specs. This article is so dumb.

i watch movies a lot on weekends on my tv. Though smart tv will give tons of things to watch from the net, i still prefer to watch on basic tv, from my fd pluged-in. no worries from slow connection. nakakainis kasi yung nasa climax ka tapos biglang titigil para mag load. nakakabitin.

    kaya, basic tv na lang.
