Home-grown Kitiwit to take on Facebook

Developed by some pretty talented Filipinos for about a year now, this new social networking site, , wants to carve a niche of its own and separate itself from the usual Facebook crowd.

Met up with reps of Kitiwit to discuss details and how they want to position the site to differentiate it with all other social networking sites.

Of course, it’s hard not to compare it with the current king and queen of SNS but if you look closely, they actually use Twitter API and Facebook Connect for easy access and registration (they even have an FB Fan Page and Twitter account as well so it’s a friendly neighborhood).

Kitiwit focuses on 3 major channels — the social stream, an integrated blogging tool and a built-in classifieds. The site is still in beta but it has incorporated a lot of features from Google+, Facebook, etc.

What’s interesting is that they already got a Kitiwit iPhone App rolled out this early and I am told the Android App is coming out in a month or two.

I requested if they could roll out some sort of a brand page (similar to an FB Fan Page or that upcoming Google+ for Businesses) so I can add YugaTech in there and they said it will be out soon.

For the meantime, you can sign up at Kitiwit.com (I am told it’s Korean for “keep in touch with“) search for my name and add me as a friend.

  1. fb is hard to beat. I heard of a site bahaykubo, parang fb din pero not so popular. And it’s been out for some time na ata. Good luck kitiwits! :)

  2. yeah, and come to think of it the ratio of filipinos that will register is still not sufficient to outbeat FB

  3. lol If this was homegrown why the hell is their FB page mostly in Korean? probably because the owners are Korean with just Filipino devs? maybe not?

  4. I also made a homegrown software, pero smalltimer lg. check my link, as of now 10 online lang ung maximum ko hehe. ofws mostly. optimized sa mobile phone ung site di pa ako nakaka gawa ng full version site.

  5. yea funny they call it homegrown when the site name is korean. makes no sense at all.

  6. Filipino friendly social network. grab it now.

  7. Suportahan natin ang sariling atin… :-)

  8. seems that it’s owned (or partially) by guys from auction.ph coz they’re using its DNS servers.

  9. Pinoykubo.com is nice but not that good. S
    low server.

  10. mmm abangan natin ang susunod na kabanata nito. goodluck kitiwit mas maganda kung mas pinoy yung title kesa korean.

  11. what problem does it solve?

  12. It’s so Pinoy it has korean site name. Screw that.

  13. CoooooooooooL looks great!!! It looks better than fb! !! They did great.

  14. Checked. They are having lots of other language evev russian and chinese!! Theses look awesome, good job!!

  15. It’s funny how they are trying to showcase being filipino made then taking a korean based name. Just like that fil-am movie with spanish name before.
