The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) said banning Telegram in the Philippines is no longer being considered. The DICT has reached an agreement with Telegram and the Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center (CICC). The DICT said in a Facebook post that a deal has been made after a meeting with Telegram representatives Ronak Singh and Abhimanyu Yadav. These commitments include a 24/7 helpdesk response for reported illegal content, monthly reports to the DICT and CICC detailing takedowns and other actions. Earlier this week, the DICT had hinted the possibility of banning Telegram. It tracks how people in Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam use the app for work, study, and everyday tasks. The Philippines is the only country in the region where more prompts come from women than men. Around 24% of prompts from the Philippines happen during creative tasks, the most common type.
