Microsoft and Adobe are coming together to bring a new PDF experience on Microsoft Edge by bringing Acrobat PDF to the browser. Both companies hope to enhance the PDF experience in Microsoft Edge by powering its built-in PDF reader with Adobe Acrobat's PDF rendering engine in place of Edge's existing PDF Reader. In their announcement, they said that users can expect "higher fidelity for more accurate colors and graphics, improved performance, strong security for PDF handling, and greater accessibility—including better text selection and read-aloud narration" while remaining free of cost. Adobe Acrobat PDF on Microsoft Edge will be available to all Windows 10 and 11 users beginning March 2023 with an opt-in option for organizations with managed devices. While the old PDF viewer on Microsoft Edge will be completely removed by March 2024. Adobe just introduced new AI-powered features in Adobe Acrobat, allowing users to turn PDFs into interactive, shareable workspaces. Called "PDF Spaces," the update enables users to upload documents, internet links, and personal notes, which they can use with an AI assistant to produce summaries, presentations, and audio summaries.
