Globe and Facebook partnered 6 months ago to offer Free FB on all Globe/TM subscribers a service which, according to Mark Zuckerberg, doubled the number of people who are using internet and data in the Philippines. It is further claimed that more than 1% of Facebook users worldwide are using Free Facebook on Globe (802 million daily active users on average in March 2014). However, since last week, Globe has been sending text messages to their subscribers that the Free Facebook service will expire in April 30. Once the free FB service ends in April 30, subscribers will be charged the normal data rates. But with growing pressure from the king of streaming, YouTube, could there be a push for a completely-free option? Thus, Disney Chief Product and Technology Officer, Adam Smith mentioned the possibility of a Disney+ free tier in an internal speech. It could work in select markets where a free tier could significantly boost revenue. It's been popular in the US so far, with approximately 30% of subscribers on the ad-free program.
