That changed though in 1983 when the Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI) implemented the first through the wall 24/7 Automated Teller Machine (ATM) in the country. BPI saw its potential and decided to make it services accessible through this medium. Although not yet available in most households during the time, BPI also saw the need that Filipinos will soon manage their funds via the internet in their homes or offices. In 1999, they launched the BPI Express Online which is widely used up to this day.
