Toshiba has recently transferred its remaining shares of Dynabook to Sharp, ending its 35 years in the laptop business. Formerly owned by Toshiba, the Dynabook is the brand's lineup of consumer laptops. It was the same brand that launched the Toshiba T1100, the world's first laptop, in 1985. Toshiba had used its brand name since 1989, but Dynabook only became the worldwide brand in 2019. This left the minor shares to Toshiba at 19.9%. With the transfer, Dynabook has now become a wholly-owned subsidiary of Sharp. As Sharp fully takes over the Dynabook, the brand may integrate some of its technologies from its premium TVs and smartphone displays. In celebration of its 25 years of making laptop computers, Toshiba announced a limited edition "netbook tablet" with dual screens, the Toshiba Libretto W100.
