After a suspended update to Android 2.3, Samsung has finally released (this time for real) Gingerbread to its Galaxy S i9000 handset.

The update first leaked out back in March. By mid-April, the 2.3.3 update came out in Europe but was then suspended due to some bugs in the release.

By first week of June, Gingerbread updates started rolling out in parts of Asia (Hong Kong got theirs around May 31 or June 1).

Don’t know which exact date the Philippines got Gingerbread but was able to update my Galaxy S yesterday without any problems. Just for up Samsung Kies (need to download new and install version and un-install old one) and get the updates rolling.

Anybody out there got their official Gingerbread updates for Galaxy S already?

Good Day!
Is there a Gingerbread update for Samsung Galaxy SL I9003 here in the Philippines? I just installed Samsung Kies and it can detect the latest firmware but for whatever reason it cannot update the firmware on the phone, it keeps on disconnecting.

ive been trying to upgrade my galaxy s to gingerbread…re-installed kies to the latest version too (2.0.1.11053_66_6)..

but the latest firmware that comes up is still froyo..

what should i do? hope you guys help:)

The version of Kies that I’ve used was 2.0.0.11044_11. I’m just not sure if that’s the latest, because everytime I check Kies for updates it gives me a notification saying that it’s the latest.

in the end, i had to bring my galaxy s to the samsung service center for the upgrade.

was pretty happy with it…until ive started encountering problems with my contacts.

sim contacts are not recognized anymore by the phone…i dont know what the problem is.:(

and..all the contents of my globe sim card were suddenly erased. hay

will try getting a newer sim card tomorrow, dont know if thats gonna do the trick.

anyone encountering that kind of problem too?

Anyone mind sharing what Kernel version got released here in the PH? On a custom ROM, and thinking of reverting to a stock one.

with gingerbread things became speedy including battery drain. occasionally, the phone turns off on its own. hope another update would come out to fix it.

Why doesnt my tab get updates from kies?i tried to connect now but it still says i have the latest firmware version. I already have the latest version of kies

Updated mine last June 8. Noticeable changes are the new look of the notifications area, better copy and paste (thanks to Gingerbread), and performance improvements especially when it comes to updating multiple apps simultaneously (less to no lags/FC).

Additionally, in Settings -> About Phone you will see “Software Update” menu as the first item in the list. Unfortunately, the service is not yet available for our country.

i dont know if you are using Kies or this link (http://androidadvices.com/how-to-update-samsung-galaxy-s-i9000-to-gingerbread-xxjvo-2-3-3-firmware/) but mine took less than 5 minutes to finish.

i used the directions from the link.

sir, i am using 2.0.0.11044_11 Kies.
according to the website, it is the latest version. Unfortunately, i am still getting the “this version of the device cannot be updated” message. Were you really able to uprade your firmware? what is the version of your Kies? Thanks a lot sir!

Updated the Samsung Galaxy S two days ago. Just make sure to remove any lag fix applied before performing the firmware update through Kies.

… I had my SGS updated to Gingerbread as early as June 3! The day before that, I was checking my Kies and it showed nothing, so basically they started rolling out for Southeast Asia on that date…

So far doing great. The lagging issue is minimal compare to 2.1 and 2.2.. Loving its and its perfect for Galaxy S

I can’t upgrade my SGS! My Kies says that I have the latest firmware which is Froyo 2.2. Help! Paano bang mag-upgrade to Gingerbread?

Hi Eric. My phone has exactly the same problem. It has exactly the same firmware etc as your one has. I am going nuts because other people here in New Zealand can update theirs through Kies. Did you find an answer to this?

Wala ako problem khit yung galaxy S2 ko naroot ko n din. Kailangan mu ng odin, firmware cyempre n gling sa samfirmware.com if u need help email me asap. Mdli lng yan.

I was able to get gingerbread on my galaxy tab this morning via kies. Update was quick and painless. All my old apps and settings were retained

Unfortunately, HTC itself has confirmed that the Desire is not getting a Gingerbread update. Simply put, the gingerbread + Sense UI won’t fit in the Desire: http://m.gizmodo.com/5811738/htcs-not-updating-the-desire-with-gingerbread-as-sense-ui-is-too-big

Wala po ba kayong issues sa pagconnect ng Galaxy S to Samsung Kies? Ako po kasi ayaw talaga magconnect po e. Laging “Connecting…” lang po nakasulat.

do you have the latest Kies?

if not, uninstall and get the latest version from samsung website then install a fresh copy.

if so, then just keep it plugged in. Kies will prompt an error after several minutes after that you need to reboot your phone. else, if still no pop-up sa Kies after 20-30mins then reboot your phone.

that’s what i did 2 hours ago..

kies 2.0 na po sir e. hehe. um mga 30 mins na rin po pero wala pa rin pong error message. windows xp sp3 nga po pala gamit ko. hmmm.pano po kaya?

I just got my Gingerbread update for my SGS. I like the UI tweaks that they did. It feels snappier but I’m holding out on making a final judgment until after a few days/weeks.

Yup. I’ve updated my SGS (Globe-issued) last June 3 via Kies. So far, so good. Although I did have to uninstall GO SMS PRO for being the main culprit of the battery running low very fast (I think it has something to do when I updated the app right after updating from FroYo to Gingerbread).

saken I grabbed it kasi it’s just 16,500 sa Greenhills
I never thought na sa Galaxy S ako mapupunta kasi HTC ang priority ko
battery life: ok naman naglalast ng isang araw kung normal text, konting web browsing
lag: meron konti pero not all the time depende sa apps na nagrrun

you can check the review sites once you bought it naman you can explore it…for me enjoy naman ang experience for my first smartphone :)
